I found myself in a similar situation like the OP. Had to choose between Suikoden III and VP2 and went with VP2. Haven't played much yet (just got to Dipan), but I like it so far. But damn do I feel overwhelmed by this game and I read the manual twice. I'm currently still button mashing my way through combat and still haven't figured out how the skill system works. I admit, I haven't played many jrpgs before. I'll stick with it tho, because I usually enjoy complex games.
