We are not talking in game cutscenes.... We are talking in CGI scenes.

I think SEGA made a great contribution to the video game industry in being one of the best in creating great quality CGI on the principle.

The next one that I always consider premium quality is Square-Enix

Sonic and Final fantasy Games always have amazing CGI scenes

I'm a bit confused because what you posted from FF VII Remake isn't CGI, just in-engine cutscene.
I still think that in general Square made the best CGI scenes, but they don't do a lot of them anymore, as most cutscenes are just in-game cutscenes since the games look a lot better now, but it's not reaching CGI level.
Even FF XV didn't have CGI scenes I think other than the few trailers / kingsglaives scenes they put in the game.

I think FF XIII remains their best work to this day regarding CGI, it still looks amazing and since they don't really do CGI anymore, it's hard to beat anyway...

Kingdom Hearts also had crazy CGI even on the ps2 games. The secret ending of KH II was driving crazy, it looked insane.

Honestly I'm a little sad Microsoft is not an option.

Spoilers obviously

I really enjoyed my time With Halo Wars 2, especially because the game got something right that 343 had been struggling with the whole time (funny how giving the series to another studio resulted in story changes that are now being used in infinite). Character and world building, but these wonderful CGI story sections really helped draw that forward because the game being an RTS was naturally limited graphically in terms of gameplay.

I can barely see what's in engine/prerendered/"cgi" anymore.

But I'll vote for Blizzards old stuff and Square Enix back in the day.

Those cutscenes were by Blur Studio, they also made Halo 2 Anniversary cutscenes. They should have been an option.

Ah that explains why the cutscenes in the remaster where so good. Especially how the ingame ones for Halo CE looked so jank due to the new models.

Might need to look up there other work when I get off work.

But yes I guess these guys do some good work, really elevated a little played RTS spin off series into a must play for Halo fans, especially now that the main antagonist is shared with Halo Infinite (because It sure as hell wasn't 343's characters)

Bloody fantastic work.

Another vote for Blur Studios.
They've been at the top of the "CGI cutscenes" game for two decades at this point.

Their intro for Wharhammer Mark of Chaos looked already incredible (comparatively to contemporary standards) in 2006 and they only got better and better since then.

Growing up it was Blizzard the Cinematics in WC3 still look good today. I think Square is probably the best now, they took all their render tech from their failed movie ventures and applied it to games.

squaresoft, those ps1 cgi cutscenes really blew me away at the time. it was almost like a reward for playing the game, you'd stay up for hours just waiting to get a glimpse of the next cutscene.
Back in the day I used to say games would someday look just as good as those CGI cut scenes. Crazy how graphics now blow those out of the water.

Bloody fantastic work.

It was their character. Creative Assembly designed the game but 343i was more involved with writing and art direction. The Narrative Director now works at Mojang, but has been involved with Halo since Halo 3
These two should get most of the credit for coming up with Banished and Atriox. The composers were freelancers hired by 343i

So if there not with 343 anymore... oh no what are they going to do to my boy Atriox.

I'm guessing the Onimusha re-release a few years back underperformed. I don't think the original has aged all that well to be honest and I'm afraid to go back to the sequels now.

You'll be surprised. Because it doesn't have some jump function, the games hold up pretty damn well.

SEGA... just look at their work in Sonic Unleashed.

Legit this is some actual Pixar level shit. also these aren't in-game cutscenes but rather extra unlockable stuff and a promotional short, but they're just as great:

Square Enix also does some very realistic ones. but i wanted to highlight Sonic.

Best in the biz Square Enix has gotten so good with in-game cut scenes that they now look better than their cgi counter parts..!

(expressions, facial animations, movement, body language etc. looks more natural than in the cgi counter parts)

Edit: Beaten by like FIVE post before me.
I would rather say it is a pretty weak model for a CGI (20 years after FFX, hard to say it's a 2 decades gap. 5 years maybe ?)

Cutscenes models are pretty damn good on the other hand, indeed.

I won't argue with you there.

Their FFXIV and XVI cgi might be a step above 7 Remake though.

Historically they've been king in the field, and a big part of why their ps1 games where a big hit.

Square always, for a number of reasons. Firstly their stuff was done in-house, it wasn't outsourced top specialist studios like Blur, secondly because of it being in-house its always been representative of the actual in-game visuals, even when rendered with way higher fidelity.

Quick example: their send-off video for the failed original version of FFXIV. Shit's so good almost wish I'd played the thing in its messed up state... that's what I call payoff. (ending starts @ 7:28)

Blur Studios. You cant tell me (even if you hate halo) that the cgi scenes in halo 2 anniversary and halo wars 2 dont look damn good.

Yeah I find it funny how every big platform but Microsoft is listed (I assume MS sub devs counts as Microsoft while a studio like Naughty Dog is under Sony.)

The halo cutscenes left my jaw drop several times, and find it weird it's not a part of the poll.

Blizzard are also insane when it comes to their cut scenes. All those about Saurfanf made my jaw drop as well. So have to pick Blizzard.

Honestly havnt played a blizzard game since warcraft 3 but i do love there cgi cutscenes for starcraft 2 and wow, my favourite ever cgi scene is the intro of witcher 2

Square tried to compete with Pixar at the end of the 90's, they had a full movie studio (Square Pictures) and even released a feature film (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). It all ended in a huge failure that almost destroyed Square, Sony had to intervene financially to save the company. Hironobu Sakaguchi took the blame, got his name tarnished, and eventually left Square. After that, Square kept doing CGI with their Japanese studio known as Visual Works which ended being much more successful.

Blur studio is very creative in camera angle and storyboard . It make you wanna keep watching .

Blizzard used to be good but most of the time they're just...Basic , good tech/detail art/atmosphere but the fight scene is very bland /boring . Lots of close up scene to show off model detail . Though the diablo 4 trailer is very very good .

Square enix , 50/50 .

I like Blur's cinematic more . Its just fun to watch .

Microsoft likes to outsource CGI cutscenes to a third party called Blur Studio. They do the Halo ones. They did fable and state of decay one recently too.

For me is Square-Enix.

But I will always have a soft spot for ROBOT, the estudio behind Onimusha 2 and 3 openings.
