Who else feels forced to buy PS4K...

PS4K is just a response to the XB1.5 rumors from earlier in the year. Spencer already said he isn't a fan, so I doubt either will ever make it to market.

. And why exactly is it not legitimate to say "no one is forcing you to do anything"? It's true, they're not. If you want to have the best that badly, that's your own desire at work, not some outside force compelling to spend money on something you already have in working condition.
 
I'm probably just going to quit console gaming and upgrade my gaming rig if the rumors are true. Console gaming is costing me more than PC at this point...
 
Probably depends on how much it improves VR games. That said I'll probably pass on it till it gets to the current PS4 price.
 
I feel HYPED for the PS4K. So happy with the new upgrade cycle. No reason to need a PC now.

If you don't want to upgrade then stick to playing the same games on your PS4.

Exactly; people want a PS4 at the lowest price possible; the PS4K will effectively double sales of OG PS4 units for at least a year or so before Sony starts pushing heavy production on PS4K units :).

Then the effort to ensure OG PS4 titles run well compared to games on PS4K will be pressured on Sony and third party developers, as with the higher user base, people will be very vocal about performance issues on OG PS4's compared to PS4K titles.

That is my biggest fear of the PS4K with a Hyrule Warriors Legends situation (OG 3DS version runs bad, New 3DS version runs well), but with a higher user base of the OG PS4, I doubt this will be a common situation.
 
A perfect storm might actually be happening for me. My older son wants to get a new console. So he might get the PS4, and I'll pick up the PS4K for myself.

I only need a ps4 to play Bloodborne and whatever else From makes that is PS4 exclusive. If a new model means a permanent discount on the base model I'm all in.

That statement basically says that by making an Xbox 360 title you can also play that on the Xbox One, as the Xbox One is BC. It doesn't say anything about making them native on both. We don't know how difficult it would be to bring them to both platforms, it just means Sony has an engine capable of delivering two version for PS4K exclusives.

I edited before I read you message.
Desires are largely shaped by marketing, peer pressure and so on. People aren't self contained entities with the free will to consistently do what's best for themselves.

The argument isn't legitimate because being forced by someone and feeling forced are different things. It's like people in here can't even read.

for sure. read the ms threads, and people will have you think we should wait until they fuck up before voicing our concerns. or the legacy wow-server thread and they'll make clear that as long as something is legal it's also morally justifiable and any misgivings you might have about that is "entitlement".

His and yours, maybe. If that's how you make your decisions, and it works for you, then by all means go for it. That doesn't mean it can't come off as irrational to some people to "feel" forced to do something that you literally do not have to do, and are not being compelled to do by anything other than your own desire. Also, the whole "people in here can't read" thing is petty, doesn't serve to help your point, and is just a bad look overall.

this reminds me of the kind of people who say those suffering from depression should just think happy thoughts and get better, or that fat people should just get some will power.

because pressure and feeling forced isn't something you can just pretend away. and while not as severe conditions as the examples I mentioned it can still spoil the fun of a hobby - which is why most of us are even here at this forum. but thanks for being deliberately obtuse anyway.
 
Nope. What a silly thought.

I'll just focus on my PC for gaming and use the console for exclusives. You're not forced to buy anything.
 
On the contrary, I feel less incentive to buy one knowing the entire PS4 library won't take advantage of the 4K's power. Would have snapped one up ASAP if the opposite were true. I couldn't give less of a damn about VR, 4K media content means nothing to me, and I doubt enough games will take advantage of the 4K's power to make it worthwhile.

Considering the amount of horsepower required for PC to push 4K gaming, Yea.. Not happening any time soon on a console unless they shoot for 100% of the games to run at 30fps with less details.

The gap in severity is so extreme that I find it odd that I'm the one being deliberately obtuse in the scenario, but okay. If feeling forced to spend 400-500 dollars on a device you already own can't be seen as irrational, then I don't know what can.

I still play on PS3 even though I own a PS4 and the graphical difference doesn't bother me at all.

If you feel pressured to buy a PS4k, more power to Sony, this is what they want.
 
I feel encouraged to forgo launch consoles and wait for the better hardware if mid-gen upgrades are to become a thing.
 
If and when they announce it I will judge it based on how far better the normal PS4 games look on it and if it has actual exclusive games.

If it's just a PS4 with better VR experience and 4k support I won't buy it.

But since we don't know anything official about it and the reveal seems months (if not a year) away neither I nor anybody can or should feel forced to buy one.

The thing is, we don't have any official information on the system or its impact on the actual games. Let's at least wait for that before we all start freaking out or jumping to conclusions about games being crippled.

And the other thing is, many people manage to play PC games on old hardware not at maximum settings. So I think folks with a plain ol' PS4 will somehow survive :P

no, in reality I am considering giving up gaming altogether because of this news. and that's my choice. because i'm not fine with the console gaming market adapting to this iterative shit. if others are fine with it, good for you, no disrespect, but i ain't rolling with it. neither is OP, neither are others who voiced their displeasure.

I still see people bringing up the comparison to cars or phones or computers so i'm quoting this post for this page

I'm pissed because I switched from Xbone to PS4 primarily due to Microsoft's comments about Xbox becoming an iterative platform. I play on consoles because I don't want to deal with that shit, and like hell I'm going to shell out for new hardware when the current consoles have only just reached maturity.

I don't understand how people seem to not get why a mid-cycle revision upsets people. Yes, yes, it's just like PC gaming. There probably won't be any PS4K exclusive games. The 4K will be there for those that want the premium experience, the regular PS4 will be there for everyone else. I understand all this.

But I always buy new consoles when they launch precisely because of that little voice in the back of my head that tells me I need to get the new hotness. And I like consoles because I can pony up a few hundred bucks and shut that voice up for the next 5 or so years. That satisfaction goes away when revisions are introduced. Again, I understand how PC gaming works. But it's just a foreign concept that I'll be able to play a game on PlayStation 4 and question whether I'm playing the best version of that game on PlayStation 4.

Like, hey, I want to be psyched for PSVR. As somebody who doesn't have a lot to invest into a gaming PC, I love the idea that if I own a PS4, I can pick up PSVR and it'll work. That's muddied by PS4K. Now I have to ask myself if I want to think about dropping another $400 for what will not be the best VR experience in the PlayStation ecosystem.

I understand I'm coming at this emotionally, not trying to make any arguments here. I just definitely understand the uneasiness about introducing mid-cycle revisions. I thought the whole point of consoles was that we didn't have to worry about whether a better version existed.
