Thought I might give this thread a small bump now that Sony has launched the #4thePlayers campaign that harps on Playstation nostalgia (not a bad thing at all)., rumors of Crash, more solid rumors of Parappa, and many more rumors of other returning franchises...
Not right now, but I think once PS4 gets some new established IPs it would be a good idea to bring back All Stars. Replace Cole with the Second Son guy, maybe a The Order member, shadow marshall is a given, Iota or Tearaway level would be nice, and hell Kutoro is built for PSA.
I think next time Sony does this they are going to go all in. Last time rumors are Sony was iffy on funding going back and forth between a PSN release and box release, which left a game that had a fairly solid gameplay (debatable yes) but 0 frills and the game looked fantastic on Vita but was hampered on PS3. Gameplay also drastically changed from what was originally a capture the flag-like game although it was never stated why. Next time Sony needs a real solid plan because it looks like Superbot was caught in the crossfire of what sort of game they wanted it to be and what Sony wanted it to be...add in funding issues, IP issues and release type questions and your going to have some problems.
Regardless of the final quality (I did like the game, but it was bare bones outside of the arena) the one thing I appreciate the most from Superbot was their reverence of the IPs that were included. Some of the games included I hadnt played before, namely the newer Ratchets, Bioshock Infinite, Unfinished Swan and Patapon, but after recently playing them and revisiting some earlier franchises they absolutely nailed the characters and animations down to the finest minutia.
So where to go from here....numero uno......no Smash-style gameplay....next Smash will be good, its pretty much a given and the team has literally a decade of experience in the genre. Numero dos....unified artstyle. As I said Superbot was incredibly true to each franchise which led to clashing artstyles, Im fairly certain this may have had to do with IP restrictions and financing. I assume it would be pretty expensive to add a unique spin on every asset they are given by other devs. Numero tres...funding... honestly I think the biggest issue besides the super system (which could have been tinkered in updates, fighting itself was solid) was just how bare bones the story and game was outside of battling. Smash is basically a Nintendo museum and if the 4thePlayers commercials have shown anything Sony has plenty of stuff in the archives that just needs to be dusted off and given a nice case to display it in.
