Who has bought a Wii U within the past week?

You may be thinking about K-Mart, who starting the 26th of June is selling the same bundle for $179.95!

The 8gb white Wii U may finally be completely close to selling out in Australia!

I thought astronaut got the skylanders bundle at wii U already as I didn't realize it was on sale right now... reading back his post I think he meant he just picked up a Wii U, just not the skylanders wii U.

Anyhow... im pumped, I hope I get one on Thursday at that price. I've been tossing up between getting a 3DSXL and a Wii U, but Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros U, Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze have finally convinced me to hold off on the 3DSXL for now.

Is there an actual all-in-one NSMBU + NSLU retail disc (as shown in one of the photo's posted above) available in Europe too, or is that one exclusive to its respective Wii U bundle? I'd like to play the game one day, but not at the price local shops are asking for both games seperately.

I had been thinking about a Wii U for a little while with my fiancée and today we finally jumped in. The Japanese campaign was a nice push as well as a small discount if we bought Mario Kart 8 with the console (worked out well as this was the reason I wanted it in the first place).

It's a little bit awkward going from a PS4 controller to the game pad right now but I think I'll get used to it. I need to find some kind of handy-tips guide so I can get to know the console a wee bit better.

I saw in the June pickup thread someone mentioning they purchased a Refurbed Wiiu and received the Wind Wake HD edition, has anyone else had the same luck?

Well, lots of handy tips in this and the other WiiU threads. But if you have a basic bundle, (and if that means 8GB and no charging dock like in other territories) i would recommend to buy the charging dock. It's very handy, since it makes the appaling 3-5 hour battery life of the gamepad less annoying. Also, you won't be doing much downloading with the 8GB version (not even a lot of demo's, since the OS takes up 5GB). If you get/have a self-powered USB HDD, make sure to use a Y-cable to connect it.

Edit: i just see in the picture that you have a white 32GB version... not sure if a charging dock is included, and also disregard the 8GB thing, though if you still want to connect a selfpowered HDD, you 'll still need a Y-cable.

As for the OS: Miiverse is like an integrate twitter community about WiiU/3DS games, where you can post messages or screenshots, draw pictures or ask/solve questions about a game. You take a screenshot basically every time you hit the home button... the screenshot is then temporarily cached in memory. If you then go to miiverse, or to an image hosting website (or facebook or email) with your browser, you can there upload the screenshot. Use thebrowser to watch youtube, much better than the app.

Make sure if there is a free game thing going on with Mario Kart in Japan (there is for NOA/NOE) and if you have a premium/deluxe bundle i expect you can get 10% in credits for your e-shop spendings, so look into that.

The picture shows it's the premium pack (it shows 32GB on it).

Yes i know.

Just wanted to mention a recommendation for new Wii U owners. The Gioteck GC2 Controller. It's third party, but a decent alternative to the Wii U Pro Controller, plus it can switch to function as a Wii Classic Controller, and it's roughly half the price. Best for smaller hands though. :P

Sorry I'm on mobile so can't link or pics. :/

So, I'm gonna hopefully buy a Wii U when I get paid.

I'll be getting the Mario Kart 8 bundle from Tesco as it's only £240. I'm selling a load of stuff on GAF which will hopefully sell and knock it down to £165. I also have a £12 off Tesco voucher which then reduces it more to £153. I'll then be redeeming my free game with Mario Kart 8 (don't really care for it), and selling it for £30. So that's a new premium Wii U with a game for only £120 of my work pay

good plan

Does it take AAs or a rechargeable (through USB) battery? How's the dpad?

Damn you Japan and your white premiums ;_; I liked black initially but it gets too many finger prints now

Does it take AAs or a rechargeable (through USB) battery? How's the dpad?

Rechargeable, comes with the same usb cable as the Pro Controller uses, roughly about 10-12 hours of battery. Dpad is a mixed bag, squishy like the 360 pad but never failed to respond on screen. It also has analog triggers, presumably to mimic the early Wii Classic Controller, though I doubt any games will use them as such.

Yep, bought one a couple of days ago.

I couldn't resist a basic console with Skylanders Swap Force and Nintendoland for $198 AUD.

By the time I retroactively price match Kmart's $179 deal later this week, and trade in the pack in games, I'm looking at a $150 AUD basic Wii U.

Worth it even as a 1st party nintendo player. Now bring on Zelda.

Thanks, sounds good for the price. May just come handy for some multiplayer Kart or Smash.

i don' see no Lego City. The f is Lego City sunshine
Lego City is expensive as hell. Even used doesn't get cheap. I'm spoiled by some bargains that I've found for many Wii U games, meaning Lego City Undercover is the only game missing in my collection as well.

So it's already on sale in Australia? I thought that was just the one day price on the 26th June at big w.

Will get the Kmart one for $179 tho.

Just finished the single player campaign on Rayman Legends and it's a great game and a must play for Platform-lovers! Wii U owners may need a break from all the great Platformers but I hope they pick it up for once they are ready for a platformer again.

I can't imagine playing it on my PS3 or X360.

Need to finish up ACIV and decide what's next (along side my constant couch coop MK8 sessions).

it is? that's mindblowing. i remember seeing it a few months after launch for like £20 new. Crazy it has become so expensive

How does the charging dock make it less annoying?

And what's a y cable and why do I need it? Thx. Was thinking that any USB 3.0 portable hard drive would work no?

I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the N64. After seeing the moves Nintendo made, I had to get one. The new Mario Kart is amazing. NSMB is a lot of fun. That super mario 3d world looks excellent... and now they have a new star fox and yoshi's island coming among other games? Easy choice to make.

Less annoying to charge. Just leave it on the dock at all times on a side table or by the TV, instead of having to lay it down somewhere and plug in the cable. Looks a lot nicer too.

If you don't have a HDD which is self-powered, you will need a Y-Cable. It connects the HDD to 2 of the consoles USB ports instead of just one. This ensures the HDD gets sufficient power.

Well, not that expensive, and YMMV of course. Locally it's still full price at retail, and re-sellers are selling it for €40+.

From ebay best I can find is £36 shipped (around €45).

Given the age of that game, I'm only willing to pay south of €30... but maybe I'll have to cave in eventually.

Because it starts to recharge the moment you put it down. And you'll likely not be gaming 5 hours straight much.

The Y cable is to provide sufficient power t through USB.

The charging dock allows you to keep it upright. This is helpful if you're using the pro controller and the gamepad for other things like a map.

The GamePad power cable is a decent length too, so you could also just have it plugged in while playing if there is a power socket near to where you are sitting.

Is the game playable with the pro controller, for those of us that have no interest in the gamepad?

So how is the WiiBC? There's a few games on the Wii I wouldn't mind getting, but is the image at least up scaled on the wii u?

Rayman Legends was the greatest argument FOR the GamePad that I've seen on the system. My friend and I played co-op though the whole thing with one of us on the GamePad, and it was a great experience. Really creative use of the device, and it sucks that nothing else has used it to as much advantage.

ZombiU? NintendoLand? LEGO City?

I appreciate this may be the case, but I'm really not a fan of the gamepad. I find it much too big for a controller, the pro is so much more comfortable.

Play-Asia has Pro Controllers at a delicious price, but shipping costs put me off... worth it if you buy 2 or 3.

They got the Refurbished Wii U from Gamestop, not from Nintendo. So I think they saw it there and picked it up themselves.

Ok...I wanna take back ALL bad words I ever said about Wii U. Have bought it two days ago and I like it. MK8 is a great game, some track designs are genious, Zeldas Wind Walker artstile in motion is MUUUUCH better that in screenshots and I LOVE it(thought I will hate it at first) and New Super Luigi U...here I have a blast, for person who not so familiar with Mario games(Wii U is my first Nintendo home console ever) this game is BRUTAL, but level design is AWESOME, espesially castles.

This really warms my heart, I'm glad you're having so much fun with it!

I bit on the refurbished black model. It arrived a few days ago without a scratch on it! I've only had time to play around with Nintendoland, but I'm excited to get some more games. I never owned a Nintendo console before (handhelds all the way!) so I'm pretty excited, to say the least. My friends think I'm crazy, but then they all beg me to come over to play Mario Kart... hmm.

I also bought it last week. Together with MK8, SM3DW, MH3U, The wind waker, DKC:TF.

So far I played MK8 (5-6 hours), SM3DW (1-2 hours), MH3U (2-4 hours). Liking it so far. Last time I played stuff from Nintendo was probably with a GBA.

Which game should I take with the promotion? Pikmin 3, SMBU or Wonderful 101?

Also does someone know if the USK (German) version of Zombiu U is censored?

I bought one this week, the Mario Kart bundle, really loving the gamepad stuff especially with the WC on the big TV.

One question, I linked my NNID with Club Nintendo on friday, yet there's nothing showing about the free game. I've checked on Club Nintendo and a Wii U Deluxe is registered. Have this happened for anyone here?

I'm really clueless if I'm missing something.

Price matched Amazon at Target!

5 games total with MK8 and WW being free. System cost $80 out of pocket with credit! Deal of the forever!

Managed to find the Limited Edition The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker bundle at one of the Gamestops near me this week and decided to pick one up finally, as well as a copy of Mario Kart 8. It was a little bit of an impulse buy, but their E3 digital event really convinced me.

Overall, I'm loving it so far! Wind Waker HD is gorgeous, my god, and Mario Kart 8 with friends is a blast. My PS3/PS4 will definitely be getting more use in the long run, but I can't wait for Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, and the new Zelda. Splatoon looks like a lot of fun as well. Definitely a good investment :)

As a german you propably like some rts and strategy in your games - Pikmin 3 it is!
Just make sure you play it as intended: http://youtu.be/VGFymces-AM?t=10m44s
