Who is going to TGS?

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
As I said in a previous topic concerning buying US games, I'm moving to Japan in a couple months. As a result, I will be in the vicinity in September for the Tokyo Games Show. While I've been to E3 a couple times, I've never been to TGS, and would love to go.

Question 1: Who from GAF is looking to attend? It would be awesome to go with people that post on GAF, rather than going by myself, or with my students (I'm going to be a teacher).

Question 2: I'm under the impression that TGS is open to the public, unlike E3. Is this true? If so, how much are tickets for regular folk like myself?
 
I am still trying to convince the powers that be.

It might happen - I'll look for thread closer to the time :D

Open to the public. Costs about $8 per day. Not too horribly crowded (you can walk around the aisles very easily but booths are still crowded). Pretty fun though it's more of a 1/2 day thing than a I'M GOING BOTH DAYS!!!!! thing. Worth making the trip to though.
 
I'll be living in the Kanto area, so it would seem silly for me to miss the event.

Closer to September we should make a list of GAF members attending, and a place to meet up, so we can all go together.

I figure this can work for me in two ways: First I don't go alone to TGS, and second, I easily meet like minded people once I move to Japan. :)
 
1. I'll be there.
2. Open Saturday & Sunday to the public. Friday is industry and press only.
3. 1000YEN.
4. Keep in mind that TGS is not in Tokyo.

Yea, looks like it's at the Nippon Convention Center in Makuhari Messe. As long as that's accessible by train (and what part of Japan isn't?), I'm cool. My company is providing me with a monthly unlimited train pass.

You've got me. I haven't moved yet. I'm still sitting around Boulder, CO. I don't move until after April. :|
 
I'll be there again. Someone remind me in August that

Gaspanic + TGS the next day + dragging 25 kg suitcase in morning metro to the show = horror
 
Woo, i went last year and it felt like I going to heaven (first time in japan as well, joygasm overload). Only problem was that it was September, thus summer, and the heat was a bit much.

I'd love to go again, specially with PS3 out (Rev might not be there because Nintendo doesnt "do" TGS lolz), but... hahaha, i'm just getting out of Uni and am flat broke total. So I'm totally envious of anyone that is going :|

I went this last year but I have to go back to America around summer time for school and such. I am really tempted to get a flight back just to visit and go to TGS.

Oh and the event is technically in Chiba I believe. It is just right outside of Tokyo.
 
I was hit by the flu and I missed every single party last year :(

'Sokay though because last year was kind of sucky, this year should be phat with next gen goodness.

Damn, with so many gaffers living in Japan, we should really make a network of gaijin, for partying/gaming/drinking/eating purposes.

Also, we really should put together a roster of people attending TGS as we approach closer to the date.
 
I hope I'll be there this year. Fingers crossed.

I opted out last year because I didn't feel like doing the Tokyo sauna-like humidity hustle on the show floor.

Plus, my wife's folks live in Bunkyo-ku so I always crash there and live like royalty. :)

Not a bit! :D

It actually seems that most companies are looking to hire those that are able to teach english, rather than speak japanese. For some reason, knowing the language doesn't seem to be a big issue.

round about two hours or so. Koga's not on a good trainline for makuhari.

That's really cool. What are the job requirements? Not necessarily thinking of trying to do it, but if the chance ever arose I would definitely be interested.

To teach in Japan, you are required to have a bachelor's degree. Also, for the company that hired me, it was a super intense 3 day job interview. It was honestly so intense, that after I did it, I feel I could do any interview.

Just a bachelor's degree? Fair enough, I have one of those, and a minor in English - Creative Writing if that would help at all. What companies do this sort of thing?

Currently, my year is (hopefully) already planned out for work, and after that I imagine I'll end up doing something in my degree field of theatre production. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the future though, thanks for the info.

There are a couple big companies that hire: GEOS, AEON and one called Nova, which I've heard horror stories about. Just google the company names, and you can browse their sites and get more information.

asian booth babes won't fall for any wheelchair tricks. they're used to creepy old men taking their pictures from a foot away. Last TGS was my first time seeing this, and it was fucking disgusting. Like, those guys are dirty old stalkers. /shudder

You gotta wonder: do they go there just to get their hands on chicks' asses, or do they actually care about games?
 
there's no hands involved; the creepy dudes are far too cowardly for that. they just want to take the pics and go home and post them on creepy stalker boards and dream about masturbating.

and no, they don't give two shits about the games there, except as a function of providing context for cosplay costumes.
