Shit was cray.

I'll take that shit with a slice of Angela Lansbury...

And who could forget this sassy bastard...

Why aren't there shows with crotchety old men and women anymore?

Golden Girls was a great show.

You know something is funny when it's about a bunch of old women and you still laugh.

Murder, She Wrote is my jam.

The only procedural that I've every really enjoyed, and that's because of Ms. Landsbury. She was fierce before fierce was a thing.

Golden Girls is pretty dope too.

*Sophia makes ajoke about blanche being a slut*

*Rose makes clueless remark about the joke, reminds her of this time in St. Olaf*

*Dorothy makes sarcastic remark about rose's story*

There, I've covered every golden girls episode in existance.

Clearly someone's never seen columbo

Also golden girls is excellent.

I feel like someone just ought to make an 80s TV series OT thread, if only so we don't have to wait until someone says, "HEY REMEMBER HOW AWESOME PERFECT STRANGERS WAS?!?!" before we have these conversations again.

I liked all the shows in the OP, but this right here. This was my shit. I LOVED watching this show with my father when I was younger. So good! Man! I want to watch it again now. Anybody know if the show holds up well? I was pretty young back when I watched it (5 - 10 or so), but I'd love to watch it again.

I didn't see the show when it aired, but caught up on most of the series a few years ago and what a MARVELOUS JOY.

Blanche was my fave.

Golden Girls is a longtime favorite. It was (and still is) a genuinely funny, well-written show that wasn't afraid to take some chances. Even today, the idea of building a show around the idea that 60-year old women still have sex lives would raise some eyebrows, and the amount of racy jokes that managed to make their way into the script is surprising. A number of fairly compelling issues are addressed during its run and were rarely pandered to in an "afterschool special" kind of way, and that the writers/producers fully embraced their gay audience was a bit pioneering for the time.

The formulaic nature was its biggest downfall (there are only about five actual plotlines, recycled in various ways for seven years) but they're always enjoyable. It's interesting, too, that there was an entire little world built off of the characters, with a spin-off and a spin-off of the spin-off, all acknowledging the existence of each other, and I think at least a couple of the girls showed up on other NBC sitcoms over the years.

It does! I periodically watch an episode or two if I'm not in the mood for something heavier like Homicide. The Rockford Files is another good one from that general era.

I just finished rewatching the complete series with my dad 2 weeks ago. It holds up very well. It's a bit formulaic as alot of old people detective shows are, but it's always great to see how he solves the case. I highly recommend it... Just has a great charm to it that so many modern day mystery shows lack. Truly a classic.

Also,
was in an episode of columbo too

It was shows like this we got up to watch. Also Rockford Files was pretty good.

edit: also Nebraska's PBS bought rebroadcast rights to a shitton of BBC shows so we ended up watching stuff like Are You Being Served? daily.

I used to a lot of this and Green Acres with my mom. I'll occasionally look up "best of" compilations people put on youtube to raise my mood.

I remember the intro music and the car. Awesome stuff.

I was hooked on DVR of it for a while.

It is worth watching just cause that character demo is rarely used in TV and recognized Arrested Development creator's name as a writer.
