Who still owns their PSPGo?

I upgraded from a launch PSP to a go with the same mindset but really wish I had gotten a PSP3000 instead at the time. It looks good on paper but the form factor is awful IMO. It's incredibly uncomfortable to hold for longs periods of time, a little top heavy due to the way it slides out and where you hold it, the triggers are mushy/don't provide good feedback, and the analog nub placement is terrible for games that primarily use it.

Now I just use a Vita but if someone like the OP were set on buying a PSP I'd still recommend one of the regular models anyday.
 
I have a Vita and a Go. The Go does not currently have CFW.

I love both of them and still use my Go on a regular basis. I love that it's small and that the 16 gigs of space it has is space for PSX and PSP stuff that doesn't need to be on my Vita's limited space.

I think the PSP store was only announced to be closing in the UK.
 
It's a cute little device, but in terms of comfort the Vita is vastly superior. More pricey sure, but worth it.

That little PSPGo nub will make playing longer intervals a pain. D-pad is totally fine though.
 
I've owned both a PSPGo and a Vita since their releases. In fact, I've owned two of each - first Go was lost when my apartment was robbed, first Vita malfunctioned just out of warranty. Though the Vita rules and you should by all means get one, if you are looking for a portable RPG machine, the Go cannot be beat. While I started quite a few games on the Vita (most recently Final Fantasy Origins and Trails in the Sky) I inevitably migrate them to my Go.
The Go has the convenience factor (including a suspend feature) that actually leads me to playing more games. It is about the size and weight of a smart phone which makes it very portable. I have it in my suit pocket right now.

Now, if I was forced to choose only one of the two, I would probably choose Vita just because of the games available and the future (hopefully) possibilities. However, if that was to happen I can guarantee that my portable playtime would drop significantly to be replaced by smartphone games.
The Go is the only device I own that comes close to the convenience of a smartphone. To me - someone who travels by bus and train daily for work - this means significantly increased usage. Though I love my Vita, on the other hand, it rarely leaves my apartment.

It's really easy to add CFW on the go and import your PSP/PS1 library to it.

While the VITA is nice, the GO (and any PSP for that matter) has the advantage of being able to play any PSP & PS1 game.

I liked the Go. I got rid of mine recently because I hadn't used it in a couple years, needed the money, and had a PSP and Vita both with custom firmware. My biggest issues with the Go was the storage size. 16GB wasn't really enough for me. I know I don't really need a lot of memory. I'll never play more than a few games at a time, but I hate having to move stuff around.
 
My Go is actually my main mp3 player. I like it a lot, though the button layout could really be better. Many hand cramps will be had until you get used to it...

Best thing about it is the built-in 16 GB storage, but that point might be moot now because you can probably buy memory sticks that large for cheaper. The other best thing about it is that you can play games on it with the PS3 controller thanks to the built-in Bluetooth, and that includes playing PS1 games with real shoulder buttons.

Hooking up the PSP Go to a CRT, playing PS1 games in original resolution (which the PSP supports), and using a Dualshock 3 pretty much makes it a very, very tiny PlayStation, lol.
 
The Go is a great portable console. I use it more than my Vita and that's mostly because I take the Go everywhere because it fits in my pocket. Can't do that with my Vita or 3DS. Also, the screen may be smaller but I personally think PSP and PS1 games look better on it when compared to the Vita. If you're after portability then the Go is the way to go. You can pick one up for relatively cheap too(about $50).

Can anyone point me in the right direction to do this, or is that frowned upon? I've already bought every PSP game I want and put them on my PSP go, but it would be nice to be able to play some old SNES games or rip the psx CDs I have lying around.
 
I still have my Go and cradle somewhere in my closet. At the time, it was the absolute best thing for playing Peace Walker or Portable 3rd. Chill out, recline, and play with a dual shock 3 on the big screen.
 
Traded mine up for a Vita last year and never once have I regretted it. PSP games look fantastic on it and the second analog and touch screen implementation for button functionality is a great help on some games.
 
I do. Amazing little device. Highly recommend ripping your (legally owned, of course) copy of BBS to it. Load times are basically nonexistent.

Also, the slider function is awesome.

Well, that and it's going to become a brick sooner than later. Sony is about done with the PSP and the Go can't take physical media. People are guaranteed to be happier with the Vita, it's just a better all around device. Better screen, better controls, better visuals, bigger library, fantastic PS+ support and still kicking.

There are a small handful of games that aren't available for it, but can be played on PSP, that and built-in TV out are about the only solid justifications I can think of for it.

my main beef when it came out was the price and the fact that it doesn't play every psp game out of the box. I only caved once i could get it second hand for cheap. the buttons and form factor aren't great either but that is par for the course with Sony handhelds. The only thing that bugs me now is the exposed screen which ruins the portability since I need a case to take it anywhere.
 
Love my PSPGo, probably my favorite iteration of the PSP actually and I own 1 of each series (1000, 2000, 3000 & Go). The form factor, buttons & no spinning drive was what makes it the best to me.

Once the PSPGo has CFW on it, it becomes easily the best machine to play the PSP's vast library on it, at least in my opinion. Playing BBS on it was so much better than playing on my 3000, not to mention I was able to use my DS3 when utilizing the Go's cradle & component cables to play on my tv.

I also own a Vita but I can say that I found playing MMX4 easier on my Go than on my Vita, despite the Vita looking much more colorful.

If you can find one for cheap, give it try to see if you like it, but the small form factor might be off-putting if you have larger hands. The L/R triggers can be hit or miss, depending on how you rest your fingers on them, but the buttons/d-pad/analog nub are excellent.

Loaded with great PSP games and PSX games.

Shame that the playstation store is quite limited with PSP games but you can still get the majority of the classics.

I love my PSPgo.

I mainly use it connected to my TV and sync'd with a dualshock controller because it is quite small and my hands hurt after a while.

My Go is still going strong, have tons of classic JRPGS and great psp games on it. I know one day the battery will shit the bed so i'm always on the lookout for a good vita deal, but I'm going to be travelling soon and this bad boy always comes with me.
 
I found one on my local Craigslist for 60 including the box and av cables, look around your local trade sites for a good deal.
 
The PSP Go is pretty solid. I haven't used mine since getting a Vita but the OS, size and MP3 player are superior. If you just want it specifically for a few PSP games I say go for it.

Same here. Combined with the PS 3D TV and their PSP Zoom mode.

Regarding the "suspended state" I think it has the option. Not sure if it can be done with multiple games at once, but you press home and there are two options: quit, which sends you back to the XMB and suspend, which creates a save state of that precise moment you're playing. Not at home now, so can't confirm.
 
Had my PSP Go for a few years and loved it, kinda became redundant once I got a Vita.

I'm still salty about them never releasing Crisis Core digitally, since that was basically why I bought a PSP.

But the form factor was excellent and it was a great system, however IMO it makes no sense to buy one now. Just spring for a Vita and you'll be good for years.
 
The Vita takes care of the PSP and PSX itch I get very often. I was, for nostalgia sake, gonna get another PSP, but the only reason I'm not opting for the PSPGo is because I can't play Crisis Core on it. That alone is making me want to get a PSP slim instead.

Either way, I felt the PSPGo was a solid piece of hardware. Only real complaint I have on the thing is the buttons being on the bottom just don't feel too comfortable for me. Otherwise, pretty cool that a device like that is so compact. One would certainly get a few looks if someone whips one out in public.

On the PlayStation 3D Display, there's a PSP Zoom Mode. Like most displays that allow to zoom, stretch, etc, only this one scales the PSP image to fit the entire screen, instead of the default which is a small rectangle in the center (while the XMB is fullscreen).

Of course image is not as crisp, but still a nice...nod; since the 3D TV looks like a big PSPGo. :p
 
I've owned 3. Each one had either broken or malfunctioned or had broken and needed to be sent back to Sony. By the third one, I just gave up and waited for a Vita. Piece of junk, probably due to the sliding gamepad.
 
Slightly Off Topic but what are the chances that the Vita will one day be the ultimate portable emulation machine?

I understand emulation is impossible unless you have an old firmware. What about in the future?
 
get a Vita for the future JRPG's like Y's. You can also just get a 32GB memory card for 40$ or so.

PSPGo will be severely handicapped as the ps-store gets shut down, you will need to transfer games via windows pc.

if you are hellbent on going cheap, atleast get a PSP3000 or something instead of the Go to get cheap UMD games too.

The viability of hacking the Vita is currently being evaluated, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Vita could emulate anything pre-PS2.
 
Funny to read this thread. I "stumbled" across mine a few days ago and had a go at Darius Burst. One of the very few PSP games I bought digitally.
 
Yup. I love it.

Perfect for not wanting to listen to someone talk. Bust out some RPG's and apply earbuds, problem solved.
 
The Go is one of my favourite systems ever. I love the design and it's what I consider the first truely portable system.

With that said though if you want to get a PSP you should just grab a 3000 from somewhere. You can still buy them new at a lot of places, and it will allow you to import weird shit as well as digital.

The Go has a suspend feature but it's very rudimentary, not as quick as a button press like the Vita.

Of course a Vita might be your best bet overall. Sprite/2D PSP games look fantastic blown up on the Vita screen, and it can offer you proper suspend functionally
 
I had one and was going to use it as my emulator system. I found it a bit sluggish and not great for some emulation so I eventually sold it.
 
I nearly bought one but I already had a PSP2000 so couldn't really justify it. Very cute little device, though.
 
I really loved my PSP Go. Been thinking about picking one up, even though I have a Vita, just because it's a nice device to have and I'd rather play older games at their native resolution; even if the screen quality isn't as good as the Vita's. Call me crazy.

Necroing this thread because I still can't get over what a great little system my PSP Go is. I've been playing it all this week. I love the compact form, and still feels modern alongside my n3DS and iPhone.
