Stockholm - Several new incidents of pieces of glass found in chicken were reported in Sweden on Tuesday despite the recent recall of frozen chicken products by a leading producer, according to media reports. A dozen cases have been reported since traces of glass was first found in frozen chicken breasts a week ago.

In Pitea, northern Sweden, a man eating a chicken dish at a Thai restaurant discovered two small pieces of glass in his food on Monday, the Pitea-Tidningen newspaper reported.

The reports suggest that traces of glass have been detected in imported chicken from Germany and Denmark. One such find was reported late Monday in Malmo, southern Sweden.

The municipality of Bjuv in southern Sweden has since announced it will stop serving chicken at schools and nursing homes until further notice.

"After the recent alerts, we simply don't dare take any risks," acting chief dietician Annika Hallbeck said in a radio interview.

Swedish poultry producer Lantmannen Kronfagel meanwhile said a customer in Umea, northern Sweden, had found glass in chicken packaged in Denmark.

The customer was not harmed and the company filed a police complaint.

On Friday, Lantmannen Kronfagel recalled some 500 tons of frozen chicken.

Along with police, the company has launched a probe but have been unable to determine whether the glass got into the products accidentally during production or whether consumers were involved.

Lantmannen Kronfagel last week stepped up inspections at its facilities. The group is owned by 42,000 Swedish farmers.

Fragments of glass were found in Swedish packaged vegetables served at a family dinner in Lapua, Finland Friday evening. Sweden has been plagued for weeks by glass in a number of foodstuffs.

Dinner was interrupted Friday evening for a family in the west-central town of Lapua when they discovered small fragments of glass in a dish of mixed vegetables.

Leena Hietamäki says that the glass was from a package of Findus mixed vegetables purchased the same day at a local supermarket.

She collected the slivers of glass, about three millimetres in length, and informed the supermarket which removed similar items from its shelves.

The package lists Sweden as the country of origin for the mix.

In Sweden hundreds of thousands of tons of foodstuffs have been withdrawn from the market since reports of glass fragments in chicken products began to emerge there on March 20th. Since then, glass fragments have been found in pre-packed foods, sausage, bread and even fruits.

A representative of Findus told YLE that the find seemed incredible and that the company is investigating.

What the fuck?

A couple of months ago my brother found glass in a can of tuna. There was a good amount of it too. He said they were giving him the run-around when he called to complain but he's since called the health inspection agency and they opened an investigation after getting similar complaints. It was the Unico brand of tuna, which is fairly popular here in Canada, maybe worldwide too.

it’s like my cousin teddy’s dog. sometimes he just doesn’t want to lick my feet. so what I do is i hide my feet from him for a couple of days. and then when he sees them, he goes BANANAS. so you see in this example, liz is the dog, and i am my feet.

do you see what I’m saying?
