Who's bringing the WRPG to PS3?

God these Playstation fanboys are the worst. Always in denial

LO hardly...turn based and random battles...needs massive improvement for any interest, inoue style might be hot though
BD looks fun and light, but not really my kind of rpg
Tri ace, never got into their rpgs
eternal sonata, looks fun, but not really my fair

but yeah, ff by itself is bigger than all those mentioned to me...the jrpg line up on the 360 is massively improved over xbox, but most dont seem to be bringing anything new to the table...dont now anything yet on the tri ace rpg

I prefer the JRPG games coming out on PS3.
LO on 360 especially has a lot to proove, since it looked like crap in motion in the last trailer, it looks great in stills though.

Eternal Sonata is the only one so far that has peaked my interest.

Also we have to take into account all the unnanounced RPG:s on various release lists for PS3.

(Suikoden plx?)

Jrpg's sell consoles.........in Japan.

Which is lost to MS anyway.

Wrpg's sell consoles in the West.

I think the new Fallout game (courtesy of Bethseda) is coming to PS3 too. Plus something Bioware too.

If the ps3 doesnt pick up some steam in the near future in japan I'd bet money that a lot of the unannounced jrpgs are going to eiter the wii or the ds.

Well, Namco/tri-Cerscendo... though I expect Eternal Sonata to get ported pretty quick as well. :lol

Really though, when you've got the Mistwalker games as total exclusives, that's pretty great in itself.
Tri-Ace and Infinite Undiscovery say hi.

Screen shots of FF13 > any JRPG to ever be released on the 360. Yeah just the screens are better.

All 360 ones look lame or desperate attempts to compete.

Too bad the trailer was just a target. Oh and TriAce programmers >>>> Anyone at Square

Why dont you grow up? We dont need close minded assholes on this forum.

WOW at the jealousy from some people in this thread. Doom hit some nerves lol

On topic, unlike what a few people have said I welcome more WRPG on PS3, it needs more.

proof? everything they have released so far looks exactly like the e3 video. tell me why they would release screenshots months later from a video that was a target render. they're Square-Enix, they don't need bullshots to sell their product.

The game just hit a completion rate of 13% last fall and the trailer was shown in May 2006... It wasn't playable, PS3 dev kits weren't finished, it had no game logic, it had no physics. It was just an estimation of what they can do on PS3.... It was probably sped up as well cause i doubt those graphics @ 60 FPS on an unfinished dev kit

Oh.. well that would mean PS2 ports too so would be playable on PS3. Graphics isn't everything when it comes to RPGs. :)

I love how the first post was "Does [my team, Sony] need them?"

So you have no proof?

Usual doom bravado hehe

WRPG support definitely...I think JRPG support will be much stronger on ps3 though...White knight and FFXIII look more interesting to me than any of the mistwalker stuff etc...

I think Lost Odyssey looks great, but I agree with you. Ironically, it's because White Knight & FF XIII look to have learned from WRPGs and advanced the genre, while Lost Odyssey's demo was stuck in older turn based stuff. I think FF XII nailed the direction the genre needs to go in, and White Knight Story looks to build on that by having parry/block/thrust combat routines that appear more realistic, almost choreographed.

How are games directed by Sakaguchi "desperate attempts" ? That's not imitating the real thing, that is the real thing.

In America? I have NEVER heard of a person buying any system for JRPG's

I bought my Gamecube specifically for Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos (which I never got around to buying. >.> ) Does that count? :p

PS3 has very weak JRPG and WRPG support compared to 360.

To be fair on the PS3 JRPG lineup, there's also quite a few games in the works for the PS3. Both Namco and Konami have an rpg in the works for the PS3(even stated on their respective Japanese websites). Isn't there also a a PS3 N1 game in production too?

Sony themselves also have 1-2 rpgs in the works too like Angel rings, and hopefully that will turn out well.

yeah I agree...and I think LO has the potential to be great, but its initial showing was only impressive for the art, atmosphere and the intro graphics...needs a lot of work

White knight looked really damn interesting, but I still cant shake off the feeling the vid was a concept video...if it really was a proper representation of the battle system though....then Im completely sold

haha, did this thread cause another melt down? ...internet drama queen

Wow... this thread really went to shit! Core RPG fans will buy systems for RPGs... A couple of good RPGs has sold me personally on many different systems through the years, including yes the 360, and quality RPGs will eventually sell me on the PS3.

Morrowind, Fable and (especially) KOTOR 1-2 sold pretty damn well... better than any PS2 RPGs without "Final Fantasy" in the title at that. Oblivion too was the saving grace of 360 during it's lean spring/summer months in 2005.... these games may not have the immediate perception impact that Final Fantasy brings, but they do bring their own significance all the same and the Xbox platforms would certainly be worse off without them.

Fable sold way more than any of those. Which is unfortunate because it was the second worst RPG last gen behind Jade Empire. Also, Kingdom Hearts outsold them all.
