timely thread. why not. let's all buy one.. Nintendo is awesome.

I didn't think blame space could get any cooler.

I was wrong.

Already have one, when I get a new Wii U game it will probably be Mario Kart 8.
Edit:Whoa, did not see the poster above me.We are opposites!

Im torn, I would make a thread about this but cant :(, but I cant decide if I should get a vita or wii u first. Mario kart looks very tempting plus I need to play 3d world, but with just getting a vita Ill save money plus get more game due to ps plus. Decisions decisions. Any recommendations?

For Wii U, the games that I consider ones that almost tempted me to pick on up were DKC: TF and Sonic Lost World. I don't think I need to say much about DKC: TF but the short version is that its an amazing Retro platformer that takes the best elements from they original trilogy and mixes it with killer music and dynamic stages. I am a huge Sonic fan (as my avatar shows :)) and that is why Sonic Lost World is another 'tempter' for me; the game has tight controls (as the GameStop demo showed me), vivid visuals, fun levels, a decent story by Sonic standards, and as of now has a patch fixing issues of the game (more lives, 100 Rings giving you life, Wisps controlled with buttons, no two-mouthed Super Sonic) along with two Nintendo themed DLC's (a 2D Yoshi's Island Zone and a 3D Zelda Zone).

The Vita sounds like a better option (as you sound like you got a lot of PS+ games from it) and the money you would spend on Wii U games would be put toward a MC that would hold 30+ games, but if you love Nintendo, the Wii U isn't that bad of a purchase :). You can find them for 200 used at GameStops, so its not that bad price wise :).

Between the reveal of this, smash and anticipation of wonderful 101 last e3 I bought my wii u so I guess chalk me up!

I don't ever see myself buying a Wii U. Mario Kart is meh. 7 was fun for a while, but I only bought because nothing else was out. Same goes for Mario Kart DS.

As someone who hated MK Wii due to its cheapness and found MK7 unimpressive (in comparison to Sonic Racing Transformed), I'm really surprised at the quality of MK8 :);

I felt the same way honestly. Didn't care much for Mario Kart Wii really, and while MK7 can be fun, it felt a bit rushed to me. It was incredibly barebones in terms of modes. I'm still a little worried that MK8 will have a lack of modes as well, but god damn is the game beautiful with some really creative track design, lol. I also loved Sonic Racing Transformed which is one of my all-time fav kart racers now. Dat Career mode... I wish MK8 would adopt something like that.

I already have a Wii U, and I'm getting the game at launch. Rainbow Road 64 and Moo Moo Meadows look absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to race on them.

If I had friends to play it with I would consider buying wiiu and mk8 since driving against AI has always been boring and too easy in Mario kart games.

lol at people still doubting this game. Not only does it look like the perfect blend of all the installments before it but It's also shaping up to be a huge step above them. Mario Kart has always been fun at it's core however I don't feel like nintendo has every put this much effort into the series. This game is on a different level.

Thanks for the input. I should of mentioned Im gonna get both, but yea probably leaning a little more towards vita,
dat ps plus
. I think when the new smash bros comes out that will push me over the edge, plus I can probably get 3d world, DK TF, and mario kart at a discount by that time.

If i see a good deal for it i'll pick it up, but frankly i lost interest in the series awhile back besides the very occasional drunken session with my friends. Frankly the gamecube version more than fills the role for that (and i could always get a used wii version for $20 if i need a new copy) . Besides visuals i just don't see much reason to pick it up if i have to be perfectly honest, even after watching the trailers for it. But hey man excited for the people hyped up for this game, hope it's a blast; be sure to let gaf know how it is, maybe i'll have a change of heart by then.

Haven't bought a Mario Kart since MKDS. I already have a WiiU but this is a definite must buy for me. Idk why people keep doubting Nintendo's polish. It happened with 3D World, A Link Between Worlds, and now MK8 but once people play it its like a complete 180. Can't wait for this game.

Eh, at least he's being honest about it.

I have a (mostly) irrational hatred for Apple products, for example, and have totally accepted that about myself.

I can relate. I hate so many things about Nintendo as a company, but enjoy their games so I end up breaking down and buying their systems.

Not me,

I am tired of Nintendo putting a new coat of paint and adding a couple of features to the same old IP and then having the gaming press fall all over themselves to give the game great scores. The problem is that most of those in gaming journalism let nostalgia cloud their judgement of the games instead of looking at the games on their individual merit. What is even funnier is when those same "journalist" complain that COD or BF is just the same game with a few new features.

Nintendo's problem is not that the Wii U is under powered, it is the fact that Nintendo doesn't care about third party games and many people are getting tired of the same old IP over and over.

Mario has been in over 150 games, I think it is time for him to retire.

How many of those 150+ games are actual Mario games (i.e. Super Mario Bros., Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy 1+2)? If your including games like Donkey Kong (arcade) or Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix in that list, then we might as well call Smash Bros. a Mario game.

And Sonic Lost World a Zelda game :P

It really is funny, as Nintendo had a semi-deep career mode in MK DS (the mission mode) but never used it for MK Wii or MK 7, then Sumo took that concept a step further with Sega All Stars Racing/Sonic Racing Transformed with deeper missions in the former and a full-on career mode in the latter. Its puzzling too, because Mario Kart Wii HAD a mission mode too, it was just locked by the Mario Kart Channel (as every month you had a new mission to play, which reset every new month).

Either way, at least Mario Kart 8 looks like it will be a fun game in the end and its gimmicks with gravity/hang gliding/underwater racing are really being used well here :).

I got a Wii U Day One. Have not regretted it, especially with The Wonderful 101, Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, and NES Remix. Plus we have Smash 4, X, Bayonetta 2, NES Remix 2, and of course Mario Kart 8 coming soon.

I do hope we get a Kid Icarus Uprising HD port.

It seems you're not taking online into consideration, since Double-Dash has no online, and MKWii won't have online play for much longer.

Exactly, I just don't understand why people insist on bunching them up. Most Mario games are very different, even within the same genre (64--Sunshine----Galaxy, all different from each other, even though they're in the same genre).

Well, IMO it's childish to have strong negative feelings for a company. I dislike EA and I don't buy their stuff, but to call myself a "big time hater"? Lol, I pretty much pretend they don't exist. It works for me.

I find peoples doubt of Nintendo to be justifiable to an extent (3D World not looking impressive enough with its E3 showing, people fearing LBW's was going to pull a NSMB with Zelda and people fearing MK8 will be average/mediocre like MK Wii) but in the end they are the first party that almost always delivers their promise of great games :).

Yeah, the MK DS mission mode was really addicting and kept the game in my DS for a long time (after beating all the cups). Going into MK7, I was hoping it'd return, but nope. :( Sonic Racing Transformed's career mode is just as addicting as the missions in MK DS, imo. My friend and I have done co-op on all of them, and we have 4-starred (expert) on all but a few. He even bought the game for the PS3 (we were playing on my PC hooked up to my TV previously) and we re-did the career mode for him as well, lol. If MK8 had something like that (even if it wasn't quite as extensive as in SRT), I'd be so thrilled.

Don't get me wrong, regardless of whether or not MK8 has any extra modes, I think the game will still be fun.

I was referring to you classifying yourself as a 'Nintendo hater'.

They continue to release games that don't cater to my tastes, and the last 2 consoles they've released have been underpowered that came with gimmicky peripherals. What's the problem with me not liking them?

Whatever, back on topic. I loved Mario cart back in the SNES days. I may have missed out on previous MK games for whatever reasons, but this looks really good and I just may end up buying a Wii U someday.

I'm not sure what is happening price wise in other countries, but when I walk into a store here in Aus and see the premium pack going for $430 Aussie space bucks, then not even Mario Kart can sway me!!
Today, I can pick up a PS4 for $495 Aussie space bucks on line!

I bought a basic on clearance at Dick Smith for $260 last year.

I'm waiting to see if it ends up playing just like Mario Kart Wii, which was my least favorite of all Mario Kart games. However, Smash Bros. could tempt me as well.

You're right, however I'm not taking it into consideration because I don't really care to play it online (though i did play 3ds online for a bit). It's not a game i feel like i want to be competitive with, and after trying out the 3ds version online i feel like the game is way better with friends than with random strangers. Not that they aren't fun, but i played the games so much as a kid that im just sick of them at this point. Unless there was some radical change in formula (which there's no reason for Nintendo to do so) i don't really see myself going back, or at least paying full price for one anyways.

I'm going to wait until there's a deal out there. Maybe the Target Buy 2, get 1.

I skipped out on MKWii and 3DS. Began to find the series boring, but damn does it look really great graphically. Can't hate on that art style.

BTW this is my Mario Kart ranking:

1- DS [Glorious game with glorious tracks and glorious gameplay, the most competitive MK game we'll ever have]
2- 7 [Rushed? It's downright the most polished game the series has seen. Perfect character and item balance, good new tracks, the best online in Mario Kart yet, looks great in 3D, I love it]
3- DD [The best home console Mario Kart. Fantastic tracks, character-specific items, double karts, I love everything about it and I still play it sometimes... wish it had online!]
4- Super Circuit [I used to think this was the worst Mario Kart, until I decided to play it recently - I love the sense of speed, the tracks, the music, the drifting, and it can get quite challenging! I'm now a believer]
5- Wii [See, there's tons of stuff I hate about this game: Thunder Cloud, POW Block, Thunder Cloud, everything looks plastic-shiny, Thunder Cloud, bikes being beyond OP rendering karts useless, Thunder Cloud, and tracks being too wide. But it was still fun and I played a LOT of Wi-Fi, so I can't say I didn't enjoy this quite a lot]
6- Super [I really love the basic-ness of the original game, with challenging gameplay and lovely music. IMO it's still a pretty solid little racer]
7-64 [This was my first Mario Kart and I love it, but I think it has the most flaws and the least high points in the series. Music is superb and has lots of great tracks, but the gameplay was a bit meh compared with the rest]

Overall I really dig the series. Probably more than non-Kart Mario games :x
