Who's going to get a WiiU soon for Mario Kart 8?

Unfortunately Mario Kart is not a system seller for me. I didn't enjoy the last two. I'm still waiting to be "wowed" by the Wii U but chances of that are getting slimmer by the month.

I was never a huge fan of Mario Kart but my wife LOVES it. When we first start dating she would talk about how she was so awesome at the SNES MK game and then when we finally played I found out she sucked. I beat her every time.

I got the Wii MK game just for her and I'll probably get this one too. It's fun to beat her in every race
Gaming with your Spouse... you're doing it all wrong!

I'm seriously seriously tempted. It's just hard to justify spending quite a lot of money on what is a doomed format.

On the other hand I really like the Wii U and MK would give me hours and hours of fun. Hmm...

Already have a WiiU, and MK8 looks fantastic. though my intrest in the series has really dwindled through the last few entries, as I don't really have anyone to play with as I get older. Will definitly pick it up though.

I know I will break down come launch day, and buy a Wii U and Kart. I don't want a Wii U, in the slightest, but I really, really, really want Mario Kart. Hope its worth it for one game!

Oh my gosh... Nothing else??? In 3ds??? Are you kidding???

I own a wii u since February. I will buy/download it on the eshop like 7 days after its release because I don't want to disturb the connectivity of the fans who will be enjoying the online the first week. Lol

My brother will buy the console too before mk8 release.
At the time the 3DS had nothing much else in terms of games. Sorry for not clarifying.

This boogles my mind. The console is just a vehicle to play games. If you enjoy the games then who cares what the console is.

Plus the Wii u has many awesome games that came out and many more in the future.

I see these kinds of comment and am always puzzled.

It sounds childish, but I can't decide which "bundle" to go with. I'm fearful the moment I choose, Nintendo will announce either A) price drop, or B) another bundle option that'll make me wish I waited

Bundles that'd make me spring for the Wii U (no questions asked) would be a Mario 3D World, or Mario Kart 8. Then I'm on board! BC I know I'd buy those games at 50 a pop, and that'd save me the money!

p.s. I recently played through Wind Waker all over again on the GC. Not in the mood to play it again so soon, regardless of HD. And New Super Mario Bros just doesn't do it for me so much.

Mario U is fun with friends. I say go for that one. And Luigi U is really challenging. :)

This will probably be the first game I get for WiiU, but I hardly expect to get one before 2015, unless I can get a deluxe for under $100.

I have at least thought about it. It would be nice to play Mario Kart with my friends but I'd have to spend over 500€ on the console, the game and the controllers. On the other hand summer is just around the corner and im about to move to a new apartment together with my gf. I may not even have time to play games. I might as well postpone my purchase and hope that Nintendo will cut the price on Wii U at E3 or release a MK-bundle.

We'll see... I know im a weak person when it comes to making rational purchases...

I'll be getting a Wii U for Mario Kart 8 and The 90's Arcade Racer, as soon as that one comes out (supposedly mid 2014 now), and regardless of whether or not Nintendo drops the price of the hardware.

Mario + Lugi bundle is what I got and I've had a ton of fun with my system, but then again I also bought SM3DW, DKC:TP, Pikmin 3, TW101, etc. :P

I bought a 360 for Halo 3; and I would buy a WiiU for Mario Kart. It is not one game but rather the one game that puts you over the edge.

I have had a WiiU since day 1 and it's ggggggggreat!

You have some options.

Buy a refub from Nintendo for 200 and use the other 100 to buy games you want.

Buy the swap force edition.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GD962OA/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Or buy a Wii u basic and use the rest to buy what you want.

People would sink money into the Wii U just for Mario Kart? Really?

I'm doing that come Sunday. Already bought some other games and a second controller. :)

I bought a 360 just to play Viva Pinata, a 3DS just to play animal crossing, and a PS4 so I can play octodad. Thankfully I make enough money that dropping a couple hundred bucks to play a game isn't that big of a deal.

A friendly reminder to any people jumping in with Mario Kart 8 to not miss out on the following games:

Super Mario 3D World
Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze
Pikmin 3
Wonderful 101 (steal at $30)
Nintendoland

It is very tempting. Mario Kart Wii was my drug. This looks really fun. Someone buy me one?

And Smash Bros. and Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3...

Is Mario Kart really a system seller? I mean it looks like a lot of fun, but I don't think it's a system seller. I'm definitely getting it though. This is a dumb question, but does it have online play?

Nope, i'd probably bite at $180ish for the Wii U though...

Mario Kart and definitely smash may not do me in so easily this time. I have less time for video games now a days, but the wait is usually going to be worth it because the old me would have bought games like GTA V and Last of Us at $40. Now I'm going to get the play the PS4 versions of some of the best games this gen when I'm actually ready to.

Also, it's sad that I'm willing the pay almost the same price for Vita mainly because of cross-play...

Or maybe they're "sinking money" into it because of all the other enjoyable games and a great looking new entry in one of the best selling series of all time was just the final straw that made them buy it?

23 million on DS
35 million on Wii
10+ million on 3DS

I guess you can say it does alright.

Yes, it has online.

31 million copies of Mario Kart DS, 38 million copies of Mario Kart Wii, and already 17 million copies of Mario Kart 7 say yes.

Edit:soundly beaten

I love Mario Kart, and 8 looks fantastic, but one game can't justify the purchase of a system.

I've been looking for an excuse to purchase a Wii U since early last year, but I still haven't found a valid one.
If they manage to release some pretty neat games that would appeal to me, before it quietly fades away, then I'll be sure to pick one up.

200 including the game and I'm down, ideally 150 without the tablet (unless it's required or something)

Weird people seem to ignore the fact that the PS4 was eaten up despite having practically no games available at launch. A must-have, high quality game comes around for the Wii U, and wanting to purchase one to play it is "crazy".

All this talk about buying one at 150 or 100 or dead system is really toxic or pure trolling. I can´t stand it!! But I guess people have different tastes. I just intend to buy a PS4 at the end of this gen for SP exclusive games.

Either
1. Gamers buy a console like they are buying stock or a house
2. Gamers are really really cheap, or they think they are
2. Some say they will not buy a Wii U unless MK is bundled, I mean really!!! For what $50-$60. You will limit yourself to play a game you want because of fucking 60 bucks, crazy!!
3. If Nintendo games does not appeal to you, well, yeah, I guess you should not invest in a Wii U.

For Wii U I have
SM3DW
W101
LoZ WW HD
Lego City Undercover
ZombiU
NSMBU/NSLU
AC 3
Darksiders 2
Sonic ASRT
CoD Black Ops 2
Nintendo Land
Trine 2
Nano Assault Neo
Little Inferno
Runner 2
Super Metroid

Doom is relative. Even the PS4 will be obsolete one day. And then you will die. And even the universe will experience entropic heat death. And then, nothing.
