Who's idea was that? The worst input peripherals ever sold.

But there was a good one, right? It was that pad that was like, a regular pad but instead of a d-pad or analog stick it was just a big ball... I forget what it was called, but some people swore and swear by it.

That would be The Orb, and I'm not having any luck finding a picture. Never tried it myself, but that's the one you're thinking of.

I had this, the Logitech Cyberman 3D Mouse. Used like a mouse, but it could tilt on all the axis. Weird and very uncomfortable.

It just didn't work. It couldn't detect when you were looking in the scope fast/accurately enough, and you had to crank the brightness too high on your tv just to get bullets to register. They should have left Silent Scope in the arcades.

not to mention it looks like a super soaker

This was the de facto PC gamepad for the longest time, and I have no idea why. The buttons are INDENTED, so it takes great difficulty to press more than one at a time.

The best was that little stick you could screw on which served no purpose.

Not sure if this fits in with this thread but to this day i still get a kick out of this one :lol

I remember in high school gym class where two of the kids were rtalking about whether they wanted to buy that or a playstation.... I think they got the virtual boy, lol.

Dreamcast controller (for me at least)
The hump where the mem card slot went used to rub against my knuckles when I played

I vote for...

* 7800 Joysticks.

* NES Max.

I personally hate the guitars used in GH/RB, but I know that's just me. Love the drums, though.

I never had a serious issue with Nintendo analog sticks until I tried playing Nights on Wii. Octagonal gate on a fucking analong stick. Why did they think that would be a good idea in the first place?

Wait, nobody mentioned the turbo touch 360?

turbo_touch_360.jpg

Basically the deal is that the control pad is "touch" sensitive with no moving parts. IE it works exactly like the touch pad on a laptop computer. (They put texturing on it so you could feel where center was but it was a horrible idea.) Oddly enough I got one of these free in the mail, tried it for 5 minutes and then never used it again.

Oops, missed the earlier mention about the turbo touch. Ok, so how about the Space Orb 360?

It was supposed to make 3 dimentional movement easier. Basically twist the ball to rotate, push or pull to move in a direction. Didn't work so well.

This has got to be one of the worst if it had ever been put on the market

Wow, you guys even got the space orb. I really need to get in on these threads earlier:D Ok, how about the mercury switch controllers from the early 80's? I've never used one but nobody mentioned it this thread either:D (One of the systems from way back when had controllers that you tilted in the direction you wanted to go. Really the controller had a bunch of mercury switches so when you tilted enough it would complete a circuit. I can't imagine playing with that.)

If you had hands like a little child, sure... :lol

This was far better than the Controller S for Halo & Halo 2 - in fact, I called the Duke the Halo controller, and used the Controller S for everything else...

And I remember seeing that Sega Activator once waaaaay back in an ad for EGM or Gamepro when it was out, and never again till, well, now.

I don't get why people say that regarding the Duke. I have sasquatch hands and I hated that thing. I guess I am used to enveloping a controller in my palm since the NES days.

I couldn't imagine playing Wipeout 2097 without the Negcon. Favorite 3rd party controller ever!

I went through like five of these playing Commander Keen.

Yeah, but it was fun to assemble...

i had this one and trust me, the idea was awesome (it was cheaply made though), i still keep dreaming this would have become the standard controller for this gen.

Okay, maybe not "bad," but if you're going to have a 40-button, 3-pedal, two-joystick controller that causes your game to cost $200, then it better be the best damn game ever made.

I only played once and fucking loved it:lol..

I've heard that that was surprisingly comfortable...

I doubt that. It's shape would make you hold it like handle bars but with your thumb sticking out. It'd be like a physics class right-hand rule / left-hand rule, but constantly. That's not even comfortable for 1 minute.

I'm so glad Sega had the sense to switch to this controller:

HOLY FUCKIGN SHITASDFLNM;ALDB DID YOU JUST DISS THE BEST NON-ANALOG CONTROLLER EVER?

No way, I love this thing. Obviously, it's impractical for most games, but for the few games that utilize it properly, it's superb.

Here comes the Trackball!

I thought this was awesome, too. Like the NeGcon, it's not something you'd want to use with every game, but there are a few games that it works extremely well with.

There were some wretched devices mentioned in this thread, but these two certainly aren't among them.

The Power Glove deserves a spot in my list, but it's not as bad as the first two. It was extremely gimmicky but somehow added at least a little bit of fun to at least one game (Punchout), even if it detracted from actually playing the game in any kind of fashion that would result in winning.
