Who's the next great video game director?

I disagree on the quality of dialogue and characters, and the fact that they're trying to mimic Hollywood makes it all the more egregious. There are a ton of games that are better written.

Which games are better written?

Can you give any examples to back up your comments?

Miyazaki would definitely be my top pick as well.

I feel that Katsura Hashino still flies a bit under the radar although all the games he directed thus far have been really well received (Persona 3, Persona 4 & Catherine). At least I rarely see his name being mentioned.

I also wonder whether Naoki Yoshida (FFXIV) will ever get the chance to direct a FF offline main title in the future. Even though he is currently getting critizised for the current patch cycle you can't deny his accomplishment of reviving a dead MMO. Would be interesting to see his take on an offline FF.

Miyazaki is already renowned, isn't he?

Love the sadistic bastard and his incredible storytelling though. And all of From who help him.

I'm gonna go for Sean Murray. Believe.

Miyazaki is more than established by now. I'll go with Derek Yu (Spelunky & Aquaria). Can't wait to see what's next from him.

But seriously, my favorites are Katsura Hashino(P5/Catherine), Miyazaki, Kazuyuki Yamai(SMTIV), Swery65, and Suda51(when he actually directs). Inimitable styles.

I think Hashino is in a bit of a rough spot for recognition, since the more casual crowd doesn't know his name and the more hardcore crowd will say that there are better SMT games than Persona.
