Who's your favorite game artist ?

I have an unusual fondness for Ryo Tanaka's work.

Its like his legs are made of paper and they're folding towards me.

I like the elebits/dewys adventure artist. Let me see if I can find that amazing dewy picture.

Here it is:

Congrats on being the first person in this thread to make me say "wtf is this shit".

For my first post on NeoGAF, I will go ahead and doom myself by beginning with:

Tetsuya Nomura

These are just a few of my favorite designs from the man, and I think they're all really iconic pictures which expressed their characters really well. I don't like some of his more recent designs, although I have to admit I've so far enjoyed the designs of all XIII or vXIII characters I've seen. With Versus I like that the characters seem to be a bit more muted with their designs, and they have this kind of subtlety to them.

I also really like Amano (in fact, I just got my girlfriend an artbook from him this Christmas) but his designs always seem so far from the actual models that I can't think of them as anything but abstract.

I also enjoy the person who designed all of the Orbital Frames for Zone of the Enders. I don't know who this person is, but I sure have a lot of awesome looking wallpapers thanks to them!

Edit: Figures I follow someone who declares their hatred for Nomura >.> Be kind to me, GAF, I've been trying to get in here for damn near a year.
excellent first post :)

The guildwars guy(?s?). Awesome artwork. Don't even think I'll post some. That's what Conceptart.org 's forum is for. I remember one thread at http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84095 and another at http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=74118 ... but I can't access it right now, or maybe the site has gone down. In which case I'll have to kill myself because I didn't backup the pics in time. Ah well. You win some, you lose some.

Edit: I'm an idiot. GW has already been mentioned. Durrr. Whatever. Too late for me, brain's already in standby. Gonna second Andrew Jones' mention while I'm at it.

Whoa, very nice. I haven't seen this one yet. I absolutely love the art in Dewy/Elebits. Anyone know the artist's name?

I still don't know after all this time. Its like they locked him in the Konami basement or something. Forever forced to create artwork without having his name recognized.

How about some Scott C. up in this bitch??

Japanese: Akihiko Yoshida, Senri Kita

American: Rich Diamant from joisey

Is it sad that I've lurked here long enough to not only know who Kittonwy is, but who Kittonwy was going to say in this very thread, despite having never talked to him?

For my serious post here though, I'd also like to credit Naughty Dog, but for Jak and Daxter specifically (I don't have a PS3 yet, please no blaming me for not having played Uncharted!). Although I liked all the games I felt the art in the first one was absolutely beautiful - this could be nostalgia talking, though, as the Jak series is my favorite from last gen.

I've never seen so many people wrong in one thread. The correct and only answer to this opinion based thread is :

Andrew Jones

I second your most correct decision. I once had the pleasure of talking with Andrew Jones. Basically all I could say was thank-you good sir.

His art is great, but most of it doesn't show through in the actual game.

Those Heavenly Sword shorts looked like they were vector based animation, I dunno if they were Flash, Toonboom, or whatever but I wouldn't call those shorts anime. I just haven't heard of any Japanese cartoons done with vector based animation so it just seems weird to associate anime with it. To me. Sorry for being nit-picky.

Kazuma Kaneko's the current favourite.

Does Ueda actually handle the art though? Good call on Team Ico anyway, though.

For ICO, Ueda was in charge of game direction, game design and character design (there were other people on the character design team as well), for SOTC, Ueda was game director.

Too crappy to be even true. Though Disgaea is a good game.

That's 3D, probably with some photoshop dressings on top of it...

So ? It`s still an impressive piece of art.

I personally like many styles and artist`s but recently the No More Heroes concepts have caught my eye. No idea who drew them but great stuff.

+1 for the unbelievable genius of Kazuma Kaneko.

Andrew Jones is godlike too.

Oh, and Satoko Kiyuzuki deserves a mention too!

It's classic Amano.

There are pieces of work by other artists I may favor, but in terms of a single artist and his encompassing style, I've a sweet tooth for his work.

These were pretty groundbreaking back then methinks. Beautiful yet gross.

No idea who did them. The dog was sweet too!
