Why are female comedians so terrible?

Sexist?

I took my opinion and weighed it against a thread I remember from back in the day, confirming my belief. The ratio of men to women mentioned in the comedy thread was something out of control...probably something along the lines of 100:1.

Shut the hell up with that "sexist" shit...

If you don't like many comedians i take it you don't stop to watch many comedians.
I have actually tried listening to many of them, comedy central is often running in the background on my TV, but I just don't like most of them I guess.

Women and men are socialized differently.

Women are just not brought up as much to have that type of personality, and neither sex is really taught how to react to women that do.

Most female comedians come off as very awkward to me, it's like they are just trying to imitate men or something. I was over a friends place like 3 nights ago and he was watching 30 rock. I'm not really a fan of the show (It was the first episode I had ever seen of it), and in one scene Tina Fey entered the room all hyped and said something like "Suck it monkies, I'm getting promoted".....I was sitting there thinking "Woah, that was weird". If Tracey Morgan had done that I would of felt it was more natural.

women aren't funny. When you're sitting around with your friends, girls never crack jokes and when they do they're not funny at all. They're just loud and annoying

meet more girls because that's not totally true.

Women just can't tell jokes, there I said it. Also, Silverman tries too hard to make racial jokes. It comes off more as mean than funny.

Why would that be weird? If someone has that kind of personality, that doesn't come off as weird at all. There was a girl who was working where I do who I could imagine doing just the same kind of thing, and it would seem perfectly normal.

You sound like some kid who just built the "No Girls Allowed" treehouse. I find it really hard to believe you don't know any girls who are funny and can tell jokes, because that's so different from my experience I guess.

Social situations are totally different than stand-up comedy.

I consider myself to be a hilarious person when engaged in conversation, but I hardly think I could do stand-up. I have many female friends who I'd consider "in the moment" funny, as well.

Something about Stand-Up comedy just doesn't blend with females from everything I've seen.

Sarah Silverman is hilarious and her show is fucking great too btw. I can't understand why she receives so much hate from GAF.

Two of my girlfriends were funny as hell. It's kinda rare but it happens, and it's usually with the least insecure ones.

You and Speeding need to go outside and meet more women. You must be sheltered to believe that.

It was what it was. I'm not trying to make some objective claim about all women, just saying, it came off as awkward at that moment to see her do that.

It was a silly example maybe, but basically, I believe what I said about socialization and the like.

Thats not to say I don't know funny women.

Man, this shouldn't be all that sexist of a topic but there are some crazed borderline rants going on in here.

gotta love sexually frustrated-GAF

I was hoping some of the gaffers well versed in stand up (theres gotta be some stand up comedians amongst our ranks) could break down their material.

Stuck up, hot chicks are pretty funny. They are so good at making fun of people in that unbelievably mean and condescending way that's actually funny. Too bad none of them would ever consider stand-up as a career.

Elayne Boosler was funny as hell back in the 80's. Most of her comedy was political or observational, with a slight tinge against men. Generally, her shtick consisted of pointing out batshit everyday type stuff.

"Someone ever tell you to put a shell next to your ear at the beach?! You can hear the ocean, they say. Of course you can!! You're at the fucking beach!"

Her guest appearance on Night Court as Mac's blind replacement was great.

Carlin's death made me realize that there are very few good standup comedians today, female or otherwise. Even the good ones seem to speak only to a single demographic.

I think there have certainly been some good female standups, but it's not a genre suited to women, for many reasons. There are plenty of funny women that take the stage for theater, though.

One of MY good friends is a GIRL, and SHE's very funny.

But seriously:

She's OK.

I actually like her.

She has your typical black lady material, but she's british and her delivery sort of implies that sometimes she's mocking all that mess.

I don't know her name but I know who she is.

I just watched a repeat of 'Mock the Week' which she was in. She was pretty funny in it but there isn't a lot of scope with her. It's always the stereotypical black/Nigerian image she portrays in her jokes.

WOW, I just Youtubed Lisa Lampanelli. OMG I have no words.

I am actually offended, and it never seemed possible, because I love Dave Chappelle , Russel Peters etc, but that women crossed the line, holy fuck at this lady!!

Who knows, but I've asked my lady friends if they think women standup comics are funny and they don't think they are either.

Wasn't there a thread about/somthing to do with Lisa Lampanelli a long while ago?

After I just listened to her on youtube I just...pity her. I haven't got a problem with extreme 'insulting comedy' but at least some comedians like Frankie Boyle are more subtle and diverse rather than just fitting as many rhyming insults and racial stereotypes into a sentance. She reminds me of some of my friends toilet humour when I was like 12 years old. :lol

only hot women are funny. they are only funny because we want to have sex with them and we pretend everything they say is funny and important.

Sure women can be funny:

But men are more funny:

I hope GAf likes Friends?

Anyway, weirdly enough i get bored if im around guys for too long, and having female's around you is always more interesting, unless they're ugly.

Its the same with singers and actors, i have more male singers and actors i really like on a professional level, except for good actresses like Natalie Portmand.(+ she's insanely hot)

Im also high.

In video form, Hitchens makes a good argument. I'm not sexist in any way at all but I just don't find women funny and I think Hitchens pinpoints why.
that he does. i find mostly that women aren't funny, on a large scale. in stand-up, their jokes are rehashed, reflective of men's jokes, or just about how they're a woman/lesbian for shock value. mostly i find that they don't seem to have a good sense of timing or cleverness that men do, and that a man's personality doesn't fit well into a woman on stage

i do, however, find that things which happen to women at their expense to be extremely funny, like if my girlfriend rolls off a bed without thinking, or nearly anything in azumanga daioh. what's funny to me is taking the elegance of a woman, which is mostly a visual product, and then applying slapstick comedy to it-- such as tripping or being outwardly flustered over something very trivial. it's a left-field joke, where the punchline comes from their overt emotional response that women can't help, because they're women

it's why i don't find stand-up or verbal comedy from women to be entertaining. they're trying to be smart, and when women keep they're cool they're boring

ugly women fit into neither of these categories, as their only purpose is to be made fun of for being so ugly

There are some definite exceptions in the sitcom world, certainly. Female characters on Scrubs, 2 Guys and a Girl, Friends (there's probably more I can't recall right now) are all great in my opinion.
the only reason they're funny is that the humor is reactionary and playing off women's emotions. i just said this. women aren't funny when they want to be, but it's fun to watch them get riled up over little things

i'd actually go out of my way to say that more writers for these shows are men, and the women simply consult on the dumb feelings stuff that gets women to watch in the first place. the point is, women don't realize they're being laughed at and not with, because we're not interested in the things they think is actually funny

Dunno, they do suck, probly cause the stuff they can borrow from is limited...... like white comedians, can make fun of race or anything like black, asian, indian, latino etc, they can all make fun of each other but when i white guy says something.........................*crickets* in the audience, but yeah they get by and have some really funny shit....... women just havnt gotten to that point, they aim at other women mainly and dont go for the broad appeal.

I just found out guys:

The problem aint with the women, its with us! You see, we only find good looking females to be interesting, i dont care how funny/smart/etc a woman is, if she's ugly ...i dont care!

And if she's hot, the only thing we think about is how she would look naked! Its really a lose-lose situation, thats why men are more funny, we dont care how they look.

Damn im awesomesauce!

women just arent all that funny. usually if im laughing at a girl it's because they said or did something that is borderline retarded.
