Why are female comedians so terrible?

See, when I watched Seinfeld, my favorite character was always Kramer. Yeah, I know he is a racist asshole, but he is still funny, Kramer, not the comedian. I never really liked Elaine and thought she was a whore. See, in shows like family guy, when it was funny(yeah yeah, it was never funny, I used to like it anyway), Meg was never funny and Peter or Stewie where the funny ones.

I once nearly heckled a woman comedian by yelling 'tell another period joke'
It would have been apt, but I'm too much of a pussy to actually yell it.

'Don't you think it's funny when guys......'
NO BITCH NOT UNLESS YOU COME UP WITH NON RELATIONSHIP OBSERVATIONS AT ALL

Women rely too much on relationship comedy, which most men can never relate to, hence we hate it.

I don't like any female comedians, so I can I will consider them all terrible. It is mainly what they joke about. I mean, most female comedians are Andrew Dice Clay with a vagina, except even less funny (If that is even possible).

You have to see Lisa Lampanelli live; that's where her true genius shines. If you get a good heckler who can keep up with her, she gets to firing back and forth pretty fast and she's really funny.

Maria Bamford is hilarious, as well.

As much as I hate to admit it, some of Ellen's stuff is fairly amusing. Nothing amazing, though.

You're aware that when everybody tries to quantify how many funny woman comedians there are, it only reinforces the stereotype that they're extremely rare and unlikely, right?

On that note, I like that Hitchens article a great deal.

i would rather eat my own ass than listen to lisa lampanelli or sarah silverman

i like kathy griffin, and kathleen madigan can be pretty funny

She's actually quite good, not great but I smirked a few times.

This is the first time i've ehard Maria Bamford. All I can think when I listen to her is how frighteningly similar her delivery is to Brian Reagan. I don't know why, but I can't get it out of my head.

I find Mary Lynn Rajskub pretty funny. Just her general awkwardness, which is at least partly an act, brings a smile to my face in every interview i've seen of her. Haven't seen much of her stand up though.

I think Betty White is hilarious. But she's like 90, so I feel like she doesn't count.

Other than that, I'm not sure any woman has ever been funny ever. I guess the funny part of the brain was displaced by the child-wanting part.

wat @ anyone saying kathy griffin. That attention whoring man-faced bitch has NO good material.

That <event> was a little... <pop culture reference>

SHUT THE FUCK UP BITCH

Ellen is easily the best female comic, but she's a lesbo which basically makes her a dude.

I have to admit I like old Margaret Cho. New Margaret Cho (activist garbage, maybe Revolution onwards) is completely unfunny and is dominated by awkward silence.

Lesbians Love Whale Watching always makes me laugh.

that he does. i find mostly that women aren't funny, on a large scale. in stand-up, their jokes are rehashed, reflective of men's jokes, or just about how they're a woman/lesbian for shock value. mostly i find that they don't seem to have a good sense of timing or cleverness that men do, and that a man's personality doesn't fit well into a woman on stage

i do, however, find that things which happen to women at their expense to be extremely funny, like if my girlfriend rolls off a bed without thinking, or nearly anything in azumanga daioh. what's funny to me is taking the elegance of a woman, which is mostly a visual product, and then applying slapstick comedy to it-- such as tripping or being outwardly flustered over something very trivial. it's a left-field joke, where the punchline comes from their overt emotional response that women can't help, because they're women

it's why i don't find stand-up or verbal comedy from women to be entertaining. they're trying to be smart, and when women keep they're cool they're boring

ugly women fit into neither of these categories, as their only purpose is to be made fun of for being so ugly

End of thread.

Is this just men not getting women comedy? Whenever I'm watching the act of a female comedian, things just don't seem to work well. I feel like they are trying waaaaaay too hard, and it's obvious.

What says GAF? Are female comedians stereotypically terrible?

No, most women don't like women comedians.

It's not a stereo type. They suck. I haven't ever seen a woman doing stand up that I liked ever - and I've seen a lot of stand up.

Top 5 stand ups for me would be

1. Steven Wright (The King and Master)
2. George Carlin (more early than newer)
3. Chris Rock (latest stuff not as funny as earlier though)
4. Jerry Seinfeld
5. Jackie Mason (The Real Fuckin Man)

I always say this...but I genuinely don't find women to be funny. I don't know a single funny female.

I've yet to see a funny woman comic, too.

I've never heard of Maria Bamford, but I was checking her out, and she's not bad. It's a bit surprising, though:

O_o
lol

Can't stand her whole voice shtick, may work for some people, but I can't stand comedians that use a lot of silly voices, just gets in the way.

Paula Poundstone is pretty much the only female comic mentioned in this thread that I actually like.

That bit by Sheryl Underwood was pretty damn funny though, was a bit too high energy for my tastes though, maybe that's just due to setting and the limited time, will have to check out her full length standup stuff.

I've seen Lampanelli's schick and it's nothing more than "I'M AN UGLY, FAT WHITE WOMAN WHO CAN'T GET LAID BY WHITE GUYS. I GO AFTER BLACK GUYS BECAUSE THEY LIKE TO FUCK FAT CHICKS. AND WHITE CHICKS. BOY DO THEY LOVE FAT, WHITE CHICKS."

And I JUST clicked on this YouTube link and it's EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Maria Bamford wins the thread for sure.

Mary Lynn Rajskub is awesome as well, nearly my favourite character in the show, and funny in person too, it seems.
