Why are "nerds" so unruly at panels?

I miss the days when Jocks ruled the world. Sure, it sucked when everyone was in high school, but by 25 they got over it.

It's gonna be real sad when millions of people in their 60's will still be arguing, adamantly, about who is faster: the flash or superman.

I just saved us all about 35 years.

We are doing a road trip to comic con this year (first time ever going to a Con of any type), and this is actually something im interested in seeing. I consider myself to be pretty average in terms of how society would see me, but it will be interesting to see an extremely large gathering of people so like minded who are generally considered to be socially "awkward".

Should be fun though and I'm hoping we can get into a couple of panels.

From my observations, nerds treat panels the same way they treat movies: Something they can riff and heckle with snide remarks and lame jokes. It's why I've always said that MST3K was simultaneously the best and worst thing to happen to geeks.

Blizzcon Q&A's are a fucking pain. Blizzcon itself is always fantastic if you're a fan of Blizzard's games, but the Q&A's...Jesus. I mean, hat's off to the Blizzard guys and gals who have to deal with the stupid questions, they do the best they can.

The WoW panels in particular get weird, especially when someone gets up to the mic with their feathers all ruffled and demands (with a crackling voicing) to know why their class was nerfed in the last patch and want to know when Bllizzard going to add a Legendary item in for their class.

Would love to know the origin of this.

Well the first problem is, most people at these cons aren't nerds, they're geeks. Nerds imply some sort of brain/book smart. Geeks don't have that requirement.

really? I've always found Nerd implies a complete inability to behave normally or rationally in social environments where as a geek is just really into tech-y niche stuff.

"In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a *chuckle* magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder."

"Let me ask you a question. Why would a man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time watching a children's cartoon show?"

"I withdraw my question."

Was at PAX East and during the Rooster Teeth panel there was some guy making awkward RvB lines, then during the lines for questioning, whenever someone got a prize there was some guy yelling obnoxiously "I HATE YOU." Sucks because the guys at Rooster Teeth are hilarious in person.

Generally, a lot of people trying to be funny but being super awkward. Make me uncomfortable.

It's like they try and talk/act the way they do online. Somethings, when you say it through text, are funny and acceptable, but when you translate them to real life they come across as SUPER lame and awkward.

Community fans in a nutshell.
