Why are pc gaming peripherals so obnoxious?

Lizard with a ladder

learnin' with the blacks!
My mouse died today and I started looking for a good gaming mouse to replace it. Looking for a gaming mouse within a reasonable price tag that doesn't scream gamer is harder than I thought.

I hit up amazon on a search to find a replacemanet. This is the number 1 selling gaming mouse on amazon.

Why?

The reviews are solid and I need to replace a mouse within this price range but holy fuck, I can't bother with all those gamer lights.

GAF help me, you're my only hope. I'm looking to replace a CM Storm Xornet gaming mouse. I'm tempted to to buy another Xornet. That mouse lasted me years worth of D3, but surely there's something out there better within that price range($30)? Something that doesn't look like the offspring of an inbred light saber.

Razer Deathadder Chroma (
what a stupid name, just call it the Razer Mouse or something, jesus fuck
). This is what I'm using now I'm using the Razer Deathadder now and it's great in its simplicity.

EDIT: I'm using the regular Deathadder, not the Chroma. For whatever that's worth.

$13? Eh... why not. I'll try it out and let you know how it goes and whether or not you can turn the lights off - which you usually can with gaming periphs. I've been using a laptop bluetooth mouse myself for a few months and have been meaning to buy a new one anyway and you accidentally saved me some time/ money making this thread!

Only the bad ones look obnoxious. Also keep your Xornet the new one comes out in a couple of months. I got my hands on it thanks to CM here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1570263/coolermaster-xornet-ii

I myself use the CM Storm Spawn tried every other mouse and could not get past the feeling of the Spawn its just so comfortable

Just get another Xornet and wait for the Xornet II. DO NOT GET THAT MOUSE.

I too have noticed the increasing volume of PC gaming peripherals: rainbow individually backlit keyboards, that transforming pneumatically operated computer case that went viral last week, lights and glowing in watercooling rigs, gaudy headphones and headsets. a bit much.

Dang, $13? I've been looking for a gaming mouse, I'll try it out. Lights won't bother me.

Sorry to derail, but anybody know of a good gaming keyboard? I need one of those too.

Not just gaming, but sometimes finding the right office mouse is really hard too.
I really can't comprehend how there is no proper mouse with just 5 buttons and right-handed design that doesn't cost you arm and leg anymore, why did Microsoft stop making IntelliMouses?

That mouse is great, btw. Amazing and low price. I agree with how stupid most things look. Wish they would tone it doooown.

I actually went with an even stupider looking mouse than that one because it was on sale for $6. Looks terrible but it works great and was cheap as hell.

Steel series sensei RAW. Inexpensive, and feels great to use. My xornet died and while I miss the rest on the right side of the mouse, I'm very happy with the purchase

I'd recommend the Logitech G400. Looks like a regular mouse, no useless lights or extra crop and lasts a LONG time. A tad bit above your 30$ you said but it's worth the extra few dollars.

If nothing else comes up, I might end up buying another Xornet. That was the first mouse where I felt like I got my money's worth and then some. It hit all the right notes. Didn't look like a light saber, felt comfty, had just the right amount of buttons. Then it died.

My hesitation with buying another Xornet, is it dying again.

It's hard to gauge how long a mouse is supposed to last when you compare your usage to something like Diablo 3. That constant clicking is bound to kill a mouse, I get it.

I feel like my mouse died too soon though. Four years seems rather early for any mouse, given whatever abuse you throw at it.

Is this the one with the giant glowing logo on the other side? lol

They're pretty understated (like, by a lot) compared to most "gaming" mice. And you can completely turn the light off if you want. Then it's just a regular looking mouse with a regular looking logo on the top/back. Like most mice.

It really is just odd how PC peripheral makers keep going for that "GREEN GOO EXTREME" aesthetic.

Who likes that shit? I can assure you that I am a lifelong gamer and I think it looks like trash. Must be something about the PC gaming and modding community.

Because gaming mice are srs biznez, right?

I've never quite gotten the complaints around stuff like this. Sure, it's a little gaudy, but ffs, it's not like you're going to be showing up at job interviews with the thing. Go a little nuts. It won't kill you.

It started with cases about 15 years ago. Then mice. Eventually keyboards.

The norm is ugly cases these days.

I like my g502 mouse but the big, blue glowing g on it is a bit much

same with my t16000m flightstick and the green light underneath the base that glows every time you move the stick (????).

I too have noticed the increasing volume of PC gaming peripherals: rainbow individually backlit keyboards, that transforming pneumatically operated computer case that went viral last week, lights and glowing in watercooling rigs, gaudy headphones and headsets. a bit much.

And you still have the choice not to buy any of these and go for the sleek designed ones. There are like hundreds of peripherals outside.

For mice he could buy a G400 e.g.

Just googled that monstruosity. WTF humanity. WHY.

One of the not-so-awesome things about PC gaming is stuff like this. Pre-built gaming PCs and peripherals are always hideous :[

Another vote for the Steelseries Sensei Raw. As a lefty, my options are pretty much limited to ambi mice, and this thing is just about perfect IMO.

They want them to compliment/compete with Razer's aesthetics I guess?

MX518 still taking names. Really doesn't look all that different from an Office mouse.

It's discontinued, all good mice are. I had Microsoft Habu that lasted me around 5 years.
In recent years I haven't had mice that has lasted me more than year. SteelSeries and Razer have the worst build quality, either the wheel goes berserk or buttons start double-clicking when clicked once, and I'm not only one with these problems as you can find lots of threads with same problems.
Currently using the cheapest mouse I could find with 2 buttons and wheel, took while to get used to it but I don't want to be buying these 100 euro mouses yearly.

Don't do it. Razer always breaks. And it's always the ugliest neon xxgam3rxx design s

Zowie EC1A + glorious extended gaming mat = classy fragging hard.

People talking up old mice like IME and 518 are doing it wrong. Yea they were amazing at the time but sensors have gotten so much better and if you're not using 1000 mouse hz, what is wrong with you?

I assure you as well, I'm a life long gamer. Mid 30s here and the glowing lights on pc things blows my mind.

I need something functional. I don't care if it looks like a boring black box. However I do care if it looks like a drunk chick passed out with glow sticks. I've been to a rave in my early 20s. Not impressed.

A mouse is considered a gaming peripheral?

What ever happened to Hands On Throttle And Stick flight controls? Pedals? Razor Hydra?

Whats the problem with it and how long did you have it.

Yes a mouse is a gaming device.
