Why are US KFC's so awful?

yeah, no. Chicken is cheap as all fucking hell in the US. You can go into any grocery store and pick up drumsticks and thighs for almost nothing. I can get a bag of AAA organic chicken breasts in trader joe's for $6.

If KFC's chicken sucks, it's because their business model demands it. It's not a Europe/Asia/US thing.

If you'd read one line further you'd see that's what I was saying. That the supplier that KFC uses in North America might supply them with shitty chicken for cheap and other regions use better suppliers. All I know is that the quality of meat they use here is worse than what you can get at Popeye's, the supermarket, or elsewhere.

Right, but their grilled chicken isn't rubbish, so I don't think it's the chicken itself.

I've never had the grilled chicken, so I can't say. I also never said that they used shitty chicken, I suggested it as a possible reason why people outside the US like it more and why it's inferior to other US fried chicken.

The quality of their food has gone down over the years.
The chicken used to be more meatier and their mashed potatoes and gravy were the best around.
I guess they decided to go cheaper over the years to increase profits.

I think a lot of it is the recipe. When you get lucky and get a piece fresh out of the frier it's pretty fucking good, but it doesn't stay like that for long at all. Popeyes stays tasty for much longer in the warming cabinets.

Freshly fried kfc is great though.

And US KFCs need to add the zinger tower burger already. I don't visit the UK without having at least one. That's a great sandwich.

Here in Japan the KFC's have a small map outside or inside that shows where the chickens used are coming from. They come from Kagoshima and Miyazaki here in my part of the country (live in Kagoshima) Thought that was a pretty cool thing to do as I have no clue where those chickens come from in USA.

KFC in Aus is my secret fast food shame, it strikes the balance of being both terrible and delicious and the erratic bowel movements are almost worth it to eat some delicious greasy fried chicken. Tried in the US though and it was fucken terrible. It seemed like the quality of the produce was just real bad, which is saying a lot since I'm sure the Aussie version isn't held to that high a standard

I'll be honest, I kind of like it. It's not amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not "shit" (in my opinion)

Isn't KFC big for Christmas there?

KFC in china is shit. I've had no issue with it in Australia/Thailand/Japan

Always interesting seeing the difference in menus between countries.

american fast food is terrible in the us.
i was shocked how bad McDonalds and Co. are in their homeland, they are far cheaper though.

Those mini chicken sandwiches are pretty good actually. Chicken Littles i think they are called? The Pot Pies are decent also (although those are premade and reheated so it's basically the same thing you can buy in a grocery store)

The rest sucks. Publix makes the best "fast food" fried chicken IMO.

Don't let GAF fool you OP. KFC is awesome and loved here. You have to remember GAF is not the rest of the world or in this case the rest of the USA.

I cannot name a single family member, friend, acquaintance or erstwhile social connection I know that would take KFC over any alternative that comes to chicken.

Everything at KFC tastes weird.

I am the furthest from a food snob and KFC is the only time I have ever turned away friend chicken.

Something about it is just off.

I went to Bangladesh after 16 years and had KFC there. The difference in quality was shocking and when I came back and tried the KFC here in Orlando again. I was like WTF how is there such a difference.

Something must be going on with the huge quality mismatch between international and US KFC.

I get a craving gigot KFC every now and again.

When I lived in US I had to travel a little to get some and I never really liked it there. The chicken was too "artificially juicy" if you know what I mean. Like it had been injected with something.

I thought people were over reacting to KFC because it's always seemed good in Australia, but when I got some in Malaysia that was some of the fowlest tasting chicken ever.

Also if you've ever had Nando's nothing else comes close, and I n not sure if they're found in the US.

Places I'll go for fried chicken before going to KFC:

-Whataburger
-Raising Cane's
-Popeyes
-Chick-fil-a
-Churches
-Walmart
-Chicken Express
-my own kitchen

The US has plenty of choice and better fast food chicken. In the UK for instance out of the chicken places KFC beats most of them for flavour.

I've had KFC in multiple countries. They all taste the same to me but even in every country, the quality is not kept standard. Sometimes you get really good ones, but most of the times its already dry and old.
I never have to buy KFC in the states as often cos there are so many better fried chicken restaurants.
