Why are you buying a Rev?

I'll buy one cause nintendo games are always neato.

Also, I never understand specs when they are posted, so I can't really join the disappointed "It doesn't have 9.74 horsepowers of vertical metrixing shader fillers *frown*" crowd.

Yeah, I really don't understand specs myself, but the GCT sounds super underpowered compared to the other two. Yes, even the 180.

I'm pretty sure RAM is what makes things run faster.

Or something.

Please don't beat me.

This is a bit of a reductive list but the point remains:

Pros
+ Its a Nintendo. It'll have Nintendo games.
+ Online!
+ NES, SNES, N64 and possibly other systems besides in one box
+ Gamecube backwards compatability (incl pad ports / memory cards etc)
+ Better graphics than Gamecube and Xbox
+ True 3D Control

Cons
- Poorer graphics than Xbox 360 and Ps3
- Quantity/Quality of Third party support = ??

Pros > Cons

If they changed the name to PLAYCUBE and made it pink with 2 handles for the really weak wristed market, I'd still buy it, because the simple fact is I'll go gay for mario.

I'm not so secretly hoping for a killer FPS with an OMGWOW control scheme in the wee bit of my heart that actually wants nintendo to at least come second in the market this time. Which, to be honest, I think they could have a shot at if Japan goes as nuts for Rev as they are for DS.

Well I didn't post my reaction in the main thread so I'll say it here. I'm really disappointed in the rumored specs. I expected something on the order of 50-75% the Xbox 360's power.
Is that too much to ask? I mean after all, its coming out a year later and its been FIVE YEARS since the cube. 1.5 to 2 times as powerful, with ridiculously low RAM? that's going to cripple physics as well as graphics, and physics is a feature that definitely adds to gameplay. On the bright side at least most of the 104MBs is super low latency 1T-SRAM.

That said, I'll buy a Rev when it comes out because I am always a sucker for Nintendo's games. The prospect of a new Miyamoto game has me all warm and fuzzy inside. If the controller works, and that's a big if... then I think it can help create new genres, and reinvigorate some dead ones (adventure games in particular). On top of that, I can't wait to dowload some my favorite old Nintendo games and have them all on one console. With a low enough price, this would be a selling point on its own for me.

because great games are bound to come out for ut..

maybe not many, but every nintendo platform has it´s share of great nintendo-games

good enough for me, don´t want to miss the next zelda, metroid or mario

That isn't even a rumor right? Just a big wish of some gamers.

I'm buying it because I really don't give a shit about fancy graphics anymore. The days where amazing graphics used to make me say "COOL" are over, I don't care anymore, i really don't. I just want to be able to pop in a game and have fun. It's the reason I play Starcraft still to this day, it's fun, it's not much to look at but it has awesome gameplay. The revolution controller opens so much gameplay possibilities, and if there's any company on the earth that can make the most of them it's Nintendo.

I respect the risk Nintendo is putting by going in a whole other race than MS/Sony. New great gameplay = more fun not better 3D = more fun! I believe in that philosophy

The clockspeeds are doubled apparently, so you're basically looking at a 800-1ghz Gekko. And obviously it'll be newer in many ways (better optimised for instruction, to work with the rest of the hardware etc). Consider that the 485Mhz PPC derived Gamecube Gekko performed on par with PIII chips (like the Xbox's) which were clocked higher. Its only a little below the single core 1.5ghz, which some people here actually predicted. It'll handle many physics apps imo, do you seriously think every 360 developer is gonna sit there and do anything more complex than what the (scalable) Havoc engine can do if they don't have to? Its not going to be as powerful as 360, and some games will look awful compared to 360 titles, but I still think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how not-crippled-at-all things turn out to be.

1. Nice addition to PC/PS3
2. The controller meaning different gaming experience
3. Metroid Prime, Zelda, Mario, hopefully Wave Race
4. Playing through all the REs in 480p again before playing RE5
5. General BC
6. ITS CHEAP

Rev. will play third party older games as well.

And the president of Sega (or something) said that the prospect of having Genesis games downloadable seems very intriguing. But didn't confirm anything.

I think DS is one of the best and most innovative handheld, so I guess it will be the same for Revolution.
Anyway, even before showing everything i know i would have bought it for the Nintendo games.

Ouendan for Revo !

It says Nintendo on the box... What else needs to be said?

Oh, and online with 32 players in F-Zero RX of course!

Why not?
It'll be cheap and powerful enough for me.
I'm satisfied with the graphic level of this gen (pol, fr, effects...) and Rev will ad a little spice to it. Enough.
Plus, it's Nintendo and has a funny controller. BC counts too.

With an XB360 the lack of 3rd party suporrt will not be a problem. :D

Why?

+ Its a Nintendo!
+ Online!
+ NES, SNES, N64 and gamecube in one stylish box!
+ Gamecube backwards compatability (incl pad ports / memory cards etc)!
+ Better graphics than Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox!
+ True 3D Control!
+ Cheap (probably same price as a new ps2...)!
+ Stylish!
+ New kind of games!

Easy... everyone wants a revolution console (except Drinky)!!

I want to get it because I like Nintendo's mindset and it has potential. but yeah, even if it flips it's a 5-in-1 Nintendo machine for probably a cheap price. And don't underestimate the price point--I only play so many games anymore to be investing much in them. I was only going to get one system, but I'm already getting a DS so even getting a Rev will be "cheating" my decision.

Same here. I will say that I'm more excited about the possibility of getting nearly every NES and SNES game cheaply and conveniently than the new stuff. I just hope Nintendo really gets a good percentage of the NES and SNES libraries up quickly. Ironically though, I'll probably hook it up to my older TV with the PS2/Xbox because it will probably look poor on my newer HDTV.

I'm getting the Revolution because I'm getting EXTREMELY bored with gaming. I'm tired of the same old crap with prettier graphics. I think the Revolution is going to create new genres. The Revmote looks fantastic, in my opinion.

I'll get one because it is a video game system. If it is as cheap as some say I'll get a few of them. The Rev has the potential to be something grand, I'll be there for the ride.

Oh and I don't care about the backwards compatibility, if I wanted to play old Nintendo games would not buy a new system to do it.

i agree.

i want something new.

mario128demo.jpg

Mario 128 is one of my most wanted games of all time! I really hope that M128 become a launch game!

pilotwings.jpg

Only to think in play this deltaplane with the freestyle...

Others:

Punshout revo - using a freestyle in ech hands.

Final Fantasy - using the Freestyle linke a mouse.

Mario Party - it's so many possibilities...

(...)

+

Cheap + Virtual Console + Nintendo.

I really want a NRV. It's will be my first console from the next gen.

It is such a cool looking compact console that will push out some pretty funky visuals and offer some unique experiences. It almost feels like I am buying into a piece of retro kit yet it is new. It just seems like it'll be the bees knees. And I may even make it my only console next gen. I am moving into a new house with not much space so I don't want a gigantic console taking up my space.

The videocard is what makes the biggest difference for graphics. Considering we know practically nothing about it, people are exagerating.

CPU is more for physics, calculations and stuff like that, which are pretty important in the rev.

RAM is basically a pool of memory where you load stuff into for quicker access. The more RAM you've got, the more objects you can have.

104 isn't all that bad actually, especially since its fast. It would have been a problem at higher resolutions but even then, video ram would be more important.

I'll stick to Hyoushi's answer. I'm curious as to what the N intends to do with this thing. It won't be my primary console, (that just might be the PlayStation 3 as opposed to my original preference for Microsoft) but if the cheap and risky approach garners interest the way it did for the DS (but in America, too, dammit!), then there's less of an excuse for me to ignore it like I thought I was gonna do. But if the worst case scenario of a Nintendo-only platform happens, I would rethink this a little; I honestly don't think that third parties should ignore the potential here, and without that, the console looks less grand. We'll see.

See, I dont get you why you guys fall for the remote like you did the DS dual screen. Dual screen didnt change shit, its a big ass map screen. Congrats, youre about to get your second sucker punch.

At least some of you are honest in your unhealthy console purchasing habits, but dont pretend Nintendo is doing anything good to you. Thats just stupid.

They do NOTHING but fail to deliever over and fucking over, yet you guys line the fuck up every god damned time.

Why are you so fucking concerned about it?

Are you buying it for the backwards comatibilty, the wifi, or the controller or is there another reason.
Yes.

Also it had better be cheap and have tolerable pricing on the "virtual console" stuff.

Don't forget the possibility to download DS demos from the Revolution. Not the reason why one would buy it, but nice enough to mention it.

as long as Nintendo is only making games for nintendo systems, I will buy those systems.

(and as long as those games are good. for my money, I enjoyed SMS, ZeldaWW, Pikmin1/2, Paper Mario, Pokemon Coleseum, Animal Crossing, etc. not to mention quite a few nintendo published DS games)

huh??? couldn't you just download DS demos from WFC directly?

I love you, and others like you.

A REVOLUTION IN GAMING IS COMING!

ALL THOSE WHO LIKE PLAYING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER INSERT GENITALIA INTO 360 AND GET ELECTROCUTED!

The controller will get me girls.

Honestly, though, because of the controller. I think it's going to kick ass. Finally I might be able to play something like Mazan at home.

mazan.jpg

I dunno if it was officially claimed, but yeah, I heard that too. You could download demos with the Revo and send them to your DS.

Hm, not without additional Software. Because the Demos are being sent in Local-WLAN-Mode. So... That wouldn't work... I guess...

I'm buying it because Wave Race, FZero, 1080°, Metroïd, Zelda, Mario, Wario Ware, Star Fox, Kirby, Yoshi, Super Smash Brothers, Donkey Kong, Punch Out, Mario Kart, Pikmin, etc. are among the best franchises of the industry.

While most franchises tend to get old after x iterations (see GC disappointment), the revmote will make us rediscover these aforementioned games with brand new controls/gameplay mechanics. Nothing is more stimulating than buying a game and not knowing what to expect.

Besides, Revolution will likely be the console that will host the most new franchises and crazy japanese games. I saw Samba de Amigo mentioned in this thread and basically all Sega arcade games could do so well on Revolution. Sega must know that (right Sega?) and I foresee a strong Revolution support from developpers.

The Revmote controller will make Revolution the most polymorph console ever released.
You'll have the most diversity in game genres & control.

At this stage, there's no need to be a visionary to understand it will be huge.
Mark my words, Revolution is already cult.

I definitely don't plan to get an Xbox360 or PS3 until prices fall to $199, but that might take at least 2 years. I plan to buy the Revolution at $99 - $149 and maybe even $199. Enjoy that for a year or 2. After that year or 2 is up, the Premium Xbox360 and PS3 should be around $200. Then I will buy one of those systems. The developers should be able to push the limits of those system by then too.

I *might* buy one. I want to want to buy one. I don't have enough information yet to decide to buy one.

But seeing as we're speculating anyway:

- because my ps1 ascii grip controller has taught me the joys of one-handed gaming (game plus supper, game plus beverage, game plus other vice of your choice...)

- because I'm nostalgic for some Nintendo games even though I _never owned_ a Nintendo console (friend's basements, housesitting, etc...) I never did beat SMB3.

- because I've owned two playstations while lusting after a small handful of GCN and N64 games that I could never justify buying hardware to play.

- because I have faith that there will be some visionaries that realize that the controller is *so* much more interesting than "swinging a sword in Zelda" and make gameplay experiences more compelling than anything I've ever played on a home system before.

- because priorities like a quiet console and quick/no load times are important to me.

- because I like good art over more polygons, whimsy over realism, simple interfaces over complex ones, and Japanese game-design over western (generally).
