Everytime someone decides to do a pop album, they're unfairly criticized as selling out. Unless you know the motives behind why they decided to go in the direction that they're going, it's simply an assumption forged because they no longer seem "authentic" to you. FYI: regardless of whether its Cat Power or Puff Daddy, everyone crafts an image that they use to gain popularity. It could be possible that she just wanted to try a pop album for all anyone knows.
