Why did the Ghostbusters go out of business?

why would this create flamebait? this is awesome.

I dunno. I fear posting my face on any message board. I actually met Dan before this when I was dressed like a normal human being too, and both times he was awesome.

Dude. I want to fucking commission you for one but it'd likely be super pricey (more than $3000).

They are. Mine cost ~$1,500 and I made it with some talented people. You can find people who'd make them for $2,000-2,500.

I thought the point of Ghostbusters 2 is that the citizens of NY are just horrible, horrible people, and the film is the exposition of that fact?

Pretty much, but Ray said it best:

Ray: You know, I just can't believe things have gotten so bad in this city that there's no way back. I mean, sure, it's messy, it's crowded, it's polluted, and there are people who would just as soon step on your face as look at you. But come on! There's gotta be a few sparks of sweet humanity left in this burned-out berg. We just gotta find a way to mobilize it!

Is now a good time to post that I've built my own proton pack? The wikipedia article on Proton Packs actually features a photo I took of mine and some old friends'.

You guys ever hear the unused score bits from the first Ghostbusters? Before the Ray Parker Jr. song, Bernstein had a pretty awesome theme of his own.

We Got One

I bought the Score soundtrack a few years back when it finally got released and it's weird to hear everything in order with stuff like this and the full Bridge/Warrant song.

Another horrible fanboy confession?

I used a lot of that untouched score in a fan film a few years back after building said ~$5,000 worth of props with friends.

It's nothing to write home about, but it has around 160,000 hits and I think it has its moments.

Yeah, just without the skills and time to make a proton pack. I have the PKE meter and Trap from MattyCollector and a suit and Ecto Goggles I made though.

I have the Matty PKE. I want to buy their trap real bad, but it's so over inflated in price now on eBay.

Yeah I have the PKE meter and trap from Matty Collector as well. I'm hoping they make a Proton Pack, it seems like most of the ones you can buy online are in the several thousand dollar range and I don't really want to spend that much.

I'm hoping Matty comes out with a decent quality proton pack for several hundred dollars.

I always thought it was because they basically killed there source of income by defeating Gozer. That the only reason there was enough demand in the market of ghostbusting, you would have to have a major spike in paranormal activity or what not.

It was just a contrived plot point. If the Ghostbusters were already beloved, famous and powerful at the beginning of GB2 then they wouldn't really have had to struggle at all and could've killed Vigo pretty easily. It's like why you always start at Level 1 in RPGs. It's no fun if there's no challenge.

not really. the movies (or at least the first one) are canon to the events of the cartoon, and there is even an episode that picks up directly AFTER gozers defeat that explains why their uniforms were different. (the movie uniforms we're contaminated with too much pke energy and became possessed.)

Actually, that's not the explanation of why their uniforms were different. They had already ordered the new uniforms anyway and they had just arrived so the contaminated uniforms had nothing to do with it. They were going to happen regardless of the contamination. That ep has always been a personal favorite because it was in continuity of the movie.

I remember the episode you're referring to though. the movie itself is portrayed as an adaptation of the events that occurred, using different actors.

Heh actually it's not different actors. They specifically call out that it's Murray, Ackroyd and Ramis as the actors. Also another personal favorite cuz it tied into the movie. =)

It's a combination of that and the lawsuits.

I'm sure the Ghostbusters made decent money while they were active though, since they still owned the Firehouse/Ecto 1 and their equipment. I guess they did charge the hotel $5000, even if they charged non business customers less they still probably made tens of thousands of dollars a day.

they got sued. The city got sued and closing the gates at the end iof the first movie caused the paranormal events to stop. That is until they built up again in the form of the mood slime years later

Boo this man. 2 is fine.

2 is the greatest misstep in the history of sequels. No sequel has completely misunderstood the appeal of the original film as thoroughly and disastrously as Ghostbusters 2. This thread points out one of the key plotting errors, which is that they broke the Ghostbusters up so you have to wait through almost half the film's runtime for them to get back together properly again. Awful villain, nobody except Bill Murray has anything to really do, waaaaay too much nonsense with Peter and the baby (although Murray tries his damnedest to save it), and the big finish with the Statue of Liberty is such utter drek that it defies belief.

The Bobby Brown song is practically the only good thing about the movie. First film + cartoon = canon. Everything else is just a letdown.

Bullshit. Hyperbolic nonsense.

Look at any Star Wars film made after the original trilogy, Superman 4, Matrix 2 & 3, Batman and Robin, Fright Night 2, Jaws 2-4, Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Caddyshack 2, Blues Brothers 2000, Dumb and Dumberer, The Son of The Mask, the list goes on and on.

The courtroom battle alone, c'mon. The dancing toaster. "Suck in the guts guys, we're the Ghostbusters." Bassmasters.

Do. Ray. Egon.

You don't have to love it, but calling it as bad as you're claiming is nonsense.

Its just crazy because at the end of the first movie the mayor gives the Ghostbusters full support and in the middle of Ghostbusters 2 it takes a conversation with a ghost in his bedroom to realize that, "Holy shit , all this is real!".

I believe this is known as "Citadel Council Syndrome".

ghostbusters 2 is awesome. it's not as fucking incredible as the first, but it's pretty damn classic in its own way.

for some reason, moreso than any other movie from the 80s (and even 90s), it has the look of a "modern" film to me, if that makes sense. something about the way it was shot has never aged it in my eyes. sure, the cars are from the 80s and the actors look young, but it's almost as it was filmed today and made to look like an 80s movie.

Also

"Just where in the hell are you from anyway?"
"The upper vest side."

Am I the only one that's annoyed that Ghostbusters 2 isn't on Blu Ray yet? I have to wonder what the hold up is.

Its bigger in the game too which, as far as ive seen among fans, IS canon. At least until told otherwise im sure.

its basically: movies+game= canon
comics, cartoons=secondary canon

dude i envy you so hard right now.

Yeah, according to the current comic, everything is canon. The movies, cartoons (real and extreme) games and graphic novels are all part of the same world. It's fantastic.

i dont think thats true regarding the cartoons, they've introduced a different kylie griffen. She only shares the name and look but its basically a different character.

edit:
Heres where i got my info
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Ghostbusters_IDW_Ongoing_Series#Continuity
ContinuityEdit
Tom Waltz confirms this continuity and the series will also be in continuity to previous IDW issues. The series will take place after the events of Infestation.[16]
The continuity is also based on the two movies, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, and Ghostbusters: The Video Game.[17][18]

On October 2, 2011, Erik Burnham clarified the continuity at work for the series.[19]

The first two movies are definitely canon.
Burnham cherry-picked from Ghostbusters: The Video Game and fans should "Assume that the events from the game happened... unless you see me contradict them."
On October 30, 2011, Tristan Jones stated the series takes place roughly in 1994 but in general, a fictional mid-1990s. On March 2, 2012, Erik Burnham tweeted it is generally a "vague present" but "if it had to be tied to a specific year it'd be 1994-ish." [20][21]
On October 30, 2011, Tristan Jones hinted a character appearing in Issue #5 will help give solid verification that the ongoing comic is not in continuity with The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters.[22] This character turned out to be Kylie Griffin.

Someone needs to do a good Ghostbusters TV series ASAP. Preferrably HBO. Or BBC.

They also summoned up a massively unnatural never seen weather phenomenon and an earthquake but that was all just a hoax... aparently.

Yeah, Slimer, originally called onionhead, is John Belushi. In the deleted scenes in GB, these two annoying couple are in their hotel room, and they see Slimer come out of clock.

Also, that unused GB song is garbage as hell.

I still like GB2. It has its problems, but there were still a lot of great funny lines. And the GB remix by Run DMC is great.
