Time to call.

Fixed. The original Turtles wouldn't be shy to tear those drivers a new one.

Anyway, fuck mankind.

I could understand if it was an asshole squirrel but a turtle? Got damn

I don't mean to shit on the premise of this thread, but I have frequently swerved to try to avoid something and ended up inadvertently hitting it instead (luckily this has never resulted in me hitting an animal).

Maybe I'm just a bad driver, but sometimes it can be hard to have a sense of exactly where your tires are underneath you. I would say it would take pretty great accuracy to hit a turtle.

There's not a lot of second guessing when it comes to running over a turtle. Something like a squirrel could dart the other way suddenly and end up getting run over when you move the tires to avoid it, but a turtle? It'll be where you expect it to.

Also, having a feeling for where your tires are is part of driving in general.

I'd be willing to bet the drivers had no clue it was supposed to be a turtle considering it's size. Probably looked like more of a leaf than anything.

Still strange people would go out of their way to drive over it.

The article is good for it bringing up the discussion of how to design and manage more effective means of wildlife crossing. Reading it as motor-vehicle Terrapene-icide makes me disgusted. To try to end on a better note:

This is TMNT love, not poking fun:

Notice they cut the Clemson Student's face out of the article?

I've stopped my car to pick up a box turtle and carry it over to the other side of the road. How a human being can have so little empathy for a fellow living creature is utterly beyond me.

In high school, every time I was a passenger in someone's car, and they saw an animal on the road (with the exception of dogs), they would swerve to try and hit it, and laugh about getting points. I don't mean every person, but every male driver. Some of them still do this, but mostly the practice stopped after high school.

I read this earlier in the week.

It says a lot about some people. I remember when I was a kid my mom would pull over on the side of the road to try and move a turtle that was slowly trying to get to the other side of the road. She even moved a snake once.. well, pushed it with a stick lol.

Man that's sad :( I always stop if I see a turtle and help it across the road. I even helped a HUGE snapping turtle across the road once. My friend thought it was a bookbag and dodged it. It was right in the middle of a busy road. Had to grab it by it's huge tail and pull him across to the other side, he was snapping at me n stuff, but I think he appreciated me helping him. Yeah, that's my story.
