Why didn't I save!? Hours lost in games

Games without auto save deserve to burn in hell. Save points are a ridiculous gameplay element

I think I've lost just as much progress to bugged or stupid autosaves as I have with manual. Its horrible getting autosaved in a near unwinnable situation.

My worst loss though was thanks to GFWL and its awful save system. Batman AA randommly deleted my saves at about 10 hours and I lost about 20 hours on GTA4 as I backed up the save folder when moving stuff from a dying hard drive but didn't realise that GFWL wont accept them unless you back up your profile with it(and do a bunch of other steps to fool it into accepting them).

Got To Chaos on FF on NES, white screen and save gone. I just played through again. I would rage quit now if that happened.

I lost around 5 hours of progress in the GBA version of the lord of the rings: return of the king (surprisingly good game btw) because my mother decided to start a new game and use the same save slot as my save. I was not very happy that day.

I must have been about 12-13 years old when my then best friend accidentally saved over my (only) save in FFX with about 120 hours of playtime. That day I learned to always have at least 3 saves in time-consuming RPG´s. He´s not one of my friends anymore. :D

I almost had the monster farm done, too. It took 12 long years and the HD edition that I finally could get back to the game.

20 hours of Final Fantasy XIII, and a save just before the end of Mexico in Red Dead Redemption. Both lost when my launch PS3 bit the dust.

I've lost around 4 hours in PoP Forgotten Sands because of a bug in a certain part of the game, but I remember that when I had a PS2 my cousin took my memory card and throw it out of the window, and I lost a lot of saves. That was sad, man.

Roommate corrupted my PS2 memory card, lost damn near half of my library.
GameCube memory got corrupted, lost my entire library.

I'm" going to be so pissed when my Playstation 3 dies as some games' save data are tied to the console which forces me into PS+ if I want to safeguard my data. Whoever thought that was a good idea should've been fired.

If the game was good enough, you wouldn't care that you lost 4 hours because you'd enjoy doing those 4 hours again anyway, even if it was 4 hours of productivity lost on achieving some game goal.

Then again, too many games have padding to add game length, so its understandable...

The worst lost save I ever had was with the Pal version of WWFNo Mercy as certain glitched carts would delete the entire save including all created characters. I returned it as faulty and luckily got a decent one, but many people got badly burned by that save glitch.

Tomodachi Life has no reason NOT to have autosave as even an option. More than once I've lost progress because I'm an idiot and forgot to manually save. See also: Animal Crossing

I'm not sure exactly how much time I lost, but a couple months ago in Kingdom Hearts 2 I know I had finished Arabia Nights, the Aladdin level, and had gotten two worlds past it before deciding to shut it down. It wasn't until the TV went black that I realized I didn't know when I last saved. After rebooting my PS2 in a panic it turned out I had gone all the way back to Arabia Nights.

I haven't played KH2 since.
First post woo

Save file corrupted 22 hours in ff12. So what did I do? Started all over from the beginning. Every since, always saved in 2 slots. never again, never again

What's the most amount of progress you've lost in a game, and why? What's the most recent time it happened to you?

Quest 64 - played 18 hrs straight without a memory card - got to the last boss....and died to it >__>.

This was back in the late N64 days though.

Before that I would say SNES DKC1 - got to the last level/area but didnt get to save for the past 2 levels....

Havent had anything like this happen to me recently since most games autosave nowadays or I simply just save at any moment given :P.

When the latest Animal Crossing decided to crash and boot me to the main menu, it wiped out a morning's worth of chores accomplished and stuff collected. I wasn't thrilled about having to redo those things, at all. But I rebooted it anyway and it decided to yell at me about how bad it is to quit the game without saving properly - like it was my idea.

That just obliterated any motivation I had to keep playing so I stopped then and there.

Actually, I lied before.

Started playing a new save of Baldur's Gate with my flatmate the other week, we thought we'll wait until we save since we'll be playing for a few hours and we couldn't be bothered to stop to save all the time. Froze on a loading screen after 3 and a half hours playing.

Shin Megami Tensei: The Thread

More specifically, any SMT where MC death leads immediately to a game over. Hama and Mudo are there to keep you on your toes, especially in Persona 3 and 4 where all humans don't have innate Hama resistance. I've lost 4-5 hours before because of a surprise attack -> sudden OHKO.

I don't mind in a way, though. The SMT games give you ways to resist both pretty early for the most part, so you should be doing so as you enter new areas.

Whats up with all the Persona save game issues? Never played the games myself but it seems like half the thread is using them as examples...
