Why do alot of people hate kanye?

Everyone saying he is full of himself... he's got Kim Kardashian, he's rich, he's respected as one of the best, etc etc. Who wouldn't be full of himself when he's got it all?

I think he's in on the joke, and everyone hating is getting trolled.

No, but if I see him bump into a pole he is going to get angry at me. If I win an award that he thinks he or his friend should get he will be in my space. So unless you want a world where everyone is like that(a dick) then I suggest you stop making excuses for influential people who are dicks.

Most people aren't full of themselves all the time because it's just not a nice trait to have. They realise that essentially were all the same and don't see the need to lord it over other. I don't see why this is hard to understand.

He's a celebrity. They are all exaggerated versions of themselves or complete caricatures so that they can create stories. I don't see why this is hard to understand.

Like the people in this thread saying "he was cool with College Dropout before he got arrogant." He got arrogant because that's what makes money and gets him attention. It's all a show.

Bill Gates doesn't act like a dick. He doesn't have a chick with a huge ass, but he's respected as one of the best, he's rich, ect. Is it the huge ass that makes the difference?

There are a lot of people who "have it all" who don't walk around pretending they are the world's greatest asset. Kanye is just another example of what happens when a dumb person achieves fame and financial success.

That's because Gates makes money without having to do that. He's a different type of celebrity.

Kanye could do nothing else but keep making good music and bringing in cash, but he probably wouldn't have his girl and the extra cash he has if he didn't make a name for himself by playing a character.

Its a shame that he can't be judged by his music and that he has to sell this image. I don't like the guy and am not a huge fan of the genre in general but I just wished these people would be artists, and not celebrities. I want them to be famous for the music they make not how arrogant they are.

I wouldn't go as far as claiming him to be dumb.

He was smart enough to make beautiful music. He was smart enough to talk about topics too taboo in the rap and or black community. He was smart enough to realize that even if he didn't have the ability to probe further into social issues, just by doing a drive by lyric on certain topics WHILE also maintaining a mainstream presence would place him in a higher category as a musician then if he was just another rapper.

He has marketed and built himself up brilliantly for someone so limited as a lyricist. He does have actual talent in making music. He just thinks too much of himself, acts like a 2 year old, and his music subject matter is transparently shallow once you get past the surface.

I'm not saying everyone should hate him, his music, and avoid him but its mind boggling why someone would be confused why people find him annoying.

I'm not talking about being a dick, the post I quoted mentioned being full of yourself. There is a difference there. Would you really not think you were hot shit if you were arguably one of the best in the world at what you do?

WTF are you talking about? There are plenty of celebs and musicians who get by just by their music. Kim K isn't with Kanye because of his temper tantrums and antics, she is with him because she herself is an attention whore and needs to be with someone famous to justify her own existence. Jumped from Ray J, to Reggie Bush, to the entirety of the NBA, and now to Kanye.

Extra from his antics? Yeah no. He would be just as rich from his music. The controversy only helps to bring attention but if his music wasn't up to snuff it wouldn't matter.

I don't get why you keep justifying his shitty attitude just because he is famous. He doesn't need to act like a bitch to get Kim K, get money, or be famous. The fact that he does is because that is who he is.

There are plenty of people who are the best or one of the best at whatever they do. Its not justification to get full yourself, treat people like shit, and act like a 2 year old.

The fact that Kanye acted like this before he blew up and still does shows that's just a part of his shitty personality.

How you make that connection is beyond me. Kim K goes after anyone who is famous or successful. Athletes and musicians. She doesn't necessarily go after the guy screaming the loudest and being a dick.

Kanye could be a famous successful musician without all the BS that annoys people and STILL get a girl like Kim K. He isn't acting like this for more money or girls. This is just who he is.

She is with him because he is rich and famous NOT because he is rich, famous, and acts like a bitch.

The original question is why people find him annoying. And I am explaining why. Its not hard. If it doesn't bother you and you like his music then ok. But don't pretend like its hard to figure out why some people can't put up with the guy.
 
A lot of us respect Jay-Z and figure he'd surround himself with good people. He knows who Kanye really is and chooses to associate with him. We're just spectators to Kanye's theatre act.

Well, I equate people who are full of themselves as being dicks. It's not something I like or aspire to being. In fact I think, for the most part, only people who have a mental issue, very low intellect or lacking in self-awareness would be capable of being that way for a long period of time and would probably regret it later on in life. I think there's a distinction between being proud and confident of who you are and being rude to people and thinking you're somehow superior.

And yea I was probably a bit rude with the Dr Phil stuff there but no harm intended, I apologise. My wife is the shrink not me, but I forget myself sometimes.

Also for what it's worth I don't hate Kanye at all I just dislike that attitude. The one singer I don't like at all is that guy Bobby Brown that gets around assaulting his women.

Jay Z also surrounded himself with people who turned on him, went to jail, or never became anything. Kanye was never part of his inner circle and had to scratch claw his way into even becoming relevant or known to Jay Z.

If what I am saying is hypothetical than how in the world can you claim that because Kanye acts a certain is the reason he ended up with Kim. That itself is just you speculating on hypothetically. I heard that Kim loves publicity and that the reason she is with him, He gets a lot of that by the way he acts.
 
Wow, this thread was fascinating. I don't care one way or another about Kanye--not my genre, never listened to his music--but the arguments in this thread were interesting to read.

One thing bothers me, though. Is it really excusable to be an asshole/say assholeish things if one is drunk? Does that make it somehow more forgivable?

For me it's completely obvious why some people hate Kanye. Interestingly, it's probably for the same reasons people like the OP love Kanye. If you project yourself onto Kanye's music, then it's not him bragging about himself, it's him bragging on behalf of the listener (you). So all the cocky stuff he says is basically on behalf of everybody who likes his music.

Conversely, if you don't like the music, he's just a mediocre talent with an absurd persecution complex (despite a slew of awards, critical acclaim, fans, sales, etc.) claiming to be Jesus Christ.

My biggest problem with the guy is that most every fucking song he writes is about himself. Well, that and the people who think he's awesome. He should have stuck to beats and left the rhyming to those better suited.

What the hell are you even talking about? Braggadocio songs ARE a staple of rap music. Literally every rapper has made a song about themselves and their perceived accomplishments. As far as your other claims, I haven't said anything even close to what you claim I have. Way to write a bunch of bs without actually saying anything, ironic.
 
I think he is one of the most over-rated artists of all time. Easily.

He is good at production, and terrible at everything else. The meanining of his songs are cliche, and only idiots can think they are "deep" or anything but trivial. He can't rap. Period. It bothers me when people think he can. Knowing all the talented artists out there today, and people think guys like Kanye can rap. It's the same feeling I get when idiots think Travis Barker is a good drummer, it makes no sense at all.

Part of it is also his massive ego and just his over-rated status in general.

I think he is a really good producer. I can't deny this. Although there are lots of underground guys out there making beats that are fire, there is more to production than that. Kanye can do it all. Outside of that, he isn't good, and nobody who actually understands or has studied hip-hop in any meaningful way can justify it.

He rode his own production to fame, with little talent. I give him credit for that. Why sell beats for $100k-$1000k when you can just spit absolute nonsense and fifth grade essays over them and make 10 times the money. That doesn't make him good though. Most people who are massively famous in a majority of genres are some of the least talented artists in them. They just make catchy stuff without any real talent. Mass audiences don't know music, and can't understand the complexity behind music made by talented artists. Since Kanye is all production, and 10 percent content, and the production is good, it catches on, nobody needs to think while they listen to it, and it becomes just random borderline poppy music.

I am not saying he has no talent. His is a fantastic producer, but that is where his talent ends. As an "artists" he is terrible.

You talk down to people like a child defending a man who is only known for being an amazing producer(his songs haven't been lyrically/musically good since his early days). Then again I critique him on his own merits and all you have to say in response is that I write BS when you talk to people like what I quoted.


::edit:: I've had this discussion in more depth on this forum before with people better equip to defend Kanye and they did not prevail in that case either. The only thing he has going for him is his production.

The extreme divisiveness surrounding him and his persona has done more for his stardom than beat making has.

I think there is really no point to trying to change people's views misguided or not. Kanye is an easy guy to hate due to his many public outbursts.
