Why do people feel the need to make multiple facebook accounts?

Wish I would've had the foresight for this. Cross-contamination can be an issue sometimes...
 
Because you can post things only your friends on that account can see I'd guess. So to hide things from other "friends"? I dunno.
 
I usually report all roleplaying accounts I happen to see, just to piss them off and because the rules of Facebook allow me to (profiles not representing real individuals are forbidden).
 
I plan on opening a second one. Te original got too big. It was fine in college and grew arge (friends) because of national organizations I was in leadership for, along with my campus affiliations. But 90% of those people I don't give a damn about. Still, I'd like them to be able to contact me if need be, so I'd leave that account the way it is while opening a new one and inviting people I actually keep up with to friend me there.
 
1) Real life friends
2) Online friends

Some people would rather not have the streams cross.

I only run 1 Facebook account.
 
My first FB profile was more revealing than I cared to show to my family or certain friends... It has more to do with the gay aspect of my life. It is a screen name titled profile.

I eventually created a regular namesake FB profile for family stuff. I don't see it as such a foreign concept

Unless Facebook upgrades their privacy features and decides to fuck up the settings you had in place.
 
Instead of making a new thread I thought I'd ask the question here as it pertains to facebook.

Can a person I've blocked still see my comments on a mutual friend's status/wall/picture?
 
I'm an ESL teacher. I have a personal account for my friends and family, and a professional account for students who want to add me.

Most of the people I know who do this have a "serious" account (with their real name) and an account under a nickname for drunk photos / unpopular opinions / etc.

It's not a horrible idea, what with companies searching potential employees on Facebook, but I can't be assed to do so. Making just about everything semi-private or private is much easier.
 
A friend of mine has a weird account, which is what I have on my friends list.

So about a month or two ago, I started noticing people with cartoon/anime avatars on the "people you might know" area. Figured it was just friends of friends that like anime. I began pressing the X button to remove them on the recommendations list, but they just kept popping up. I got curious enough to look up a Mr. "Ben Tennyson" on Google, and sure enough, the Facebook profile belonged to a fictional character, and all his friends were cartoon/anime profiles. I decided to look at my friend's friends list and found that a large number of his "friends" are these cartoon characters.

Fucking what. :S

I personally only have one account.

Do as I do, block + report every single one of them.

I know several people

1.) for work/professional relationships (very bland, never complain about anything)
2.) for personal friends (more pictures and comments)

Keeping the two separate allows them to maintain a professional image
 
for friends, family, and work. i only know 1 person that does this though and i don't blame him. facebook privacy features are a clusterfuck and an absolute joke. it's way easier to just make another account.
 
I have one that is purely for FB games that I want to check out for a short time without hassling me about my real friends or posting on my wall and shit like that.

then again I rarely, if ever, use my "real" FB account.

I'm thinking of doing this now just so I can subscribe to various groups without making everyone else uncomfortable.
