Why do people keep their laptop spec stickers on?

As a college student, I've been noticing a trend with my classmates and their laptops. Those with Windows laptops, more likely than not, will still have the spec stickers on their laptops; as a design student, it annoys the hell outta me. People tell me they keep the stickers 'cause they 'look cool' (the holographic ones at least), but I find most - if not all - spec stickers are aesthetically ugly.

I've worked retail before, and the spec stickers are useful for advertising, well, the specs of the computer when it's being used as a display model. When you bought the laptop, and its yours for good, the function of advertising the specs are not needed anymore. It's like leaving the company tag on a piece of clothing.

I know a guy who has had his Razer laptop for years - with the spec stickers still on - and has worn the stickers out completely. There is now zero reason to keep it at that point, but he still keeps it on.

I can't be alone in hating this, am I?

Not only does mine still have the specs sticker, it still has the i5, Geforce and Nvidia Optimus stickers. I also have a Windows 7 sticker, despite the fact I'm now running Windows 10.

Also, I only have them on out of laziness and to not leave sticker residue, not for looks.

That and plastic film left on glossy electronics surfaces really bother me, although I also realize it's a pretty irrational hatred as it's not my device. Still bugs me, though.

For laptop stickers, I've always hated the CPU/GPU badge ones as they always use the stickiest, most obnoxious glue, and even with a combination of something like Goo-gone leaves a residue or even mars the plastic underneath when removed.

People do this with hats too

The statement being – my hat is brand new, fresh (untouched) and pricey.

To assert dominance. Also, so when people walk by your laptop, they see the specs, become super impressed, then want to be your friend.

TL;DR I have no idea

happened to me once. then I tell him how much I bought my laptop and he's surprised cause he bought his own laptop which is inferior to mine for more money.

I moved the ones on mine to the bottom of the notebook.
That was, the stickers are still in one piece but also not visible all the time. I might just stick them on a piece of paper and put them in the box sometime tho.

These are the same weirdos who dont know you can remove the warning sticker on their xbone.

There is even a little flap that makes it super obvious that you should remove that. No such flap on laptop stickers.

I personally think they look nice so I leave them on.

At least the Intel i7 7th gen sticker looks pretty OK on my laptop as the sole sticker, so I don't bother with removing it.

Those spec stickers and 'Full HD 1080p', '7 hour battery life', 'HDMI' stickers on the other hand though, is there anyone who wants that stuff on their laptop?

the Windows 7 sticker on my Thinkpad I feel will leave annoying sticker residue that's a bitch to remove so I just don't bother with it
