Why do people think MS will allow Elder Scroll and Starfield on PS5?

You have to walk before you can run. Amazon etc. and game streaming is likely the end goal but when the Xbox ecosystem is lagging behind Sony's it's not a great starting point.

Positioning themselves as the leaders in gaming is going to put them in the best possible place to lead that era in the future (I don't necessarily think they will, I just feel that will be their aim).

I feel like dollar value is being overestimated here when it comes to entertainment. It might work with some people but content is king at the end of the day and if you put all these games on PlayStation, they'll continue to have the most content through their own exclusives + third party content deals they're continuing with.

If Gamepass has all these games and Sony don't have them, Gamepass provides the dollar value + the best content (that's subjective, but these are HUGE series we're talking about). I can't see them passing that up for some short term software sales on the PlayStation.

You really think that Xbox bought a massive publisher and all the IP's that go with it so that they can keep the status quo and help a competitor keep its market advantage?

Every single one of those games will be 100% exclusive to Xbox and PC. It's probably best to get your head around it early on. You're just drawing out the pain otherwise. It's like an Xbox fan holding out hope that the next Naughty Dog game will be on Xbox.

You do realize that every $70 game sold on PS is a lost subscription service that pays more than a one time sell, and loses a console sell too, right??

Microsoft did this very thing with GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost and Dammed. Microsoft funded these expansions if I remember correctly and made them Xbox exclusive for 12 months before the Playstation got disc versions released.

1 month Game Pass subscription probably does not bring that much money compared to selling one copy of a new game.
And anyway, there are people who are on Switch or PS5 and will never come to Xbox, might as well sell them games as well. Unless you think that every single sale of Ori and Ori 2 could have been converted in the player buying an Xbox :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I think you might find that MS paid Rockstar for timed exclusivity. You know, just like Sony did with Control, it's not unusual and it's nothing at all like the Zenimax situation.

As far as Zenimax goes, MS bought Xbox/PC timed exclusivity for all eternity.

Bruh....you must not have played Elders Scroll, Doom, Fallout New Vegas, Doom, Evil Within 1 and 2, Wolfenstein and others, I take it. These are multi million sellers. They sell consoles easily. Youve lost it. Seek help.

Sony says fuck it to 50 million Xbox users and an unnumbered amount of PC users.

Only they have to ability to do it?

For years, every time Sony does a timed exclusive deal it's been if you want to play it buy a PS5, that's all that's been spouted from fans over and over.

Well if you want to play ES6 or Starfield or Fallout, you don't have to buy an Xbox, but you might have to shut your PlayStation off. (Or leave it running idly in the background if it makes you feel better)

If they did publish one of those games on Playstation they would make some fraction of $70 and it would be a one-time deal. That is chicken-feed compared to the lifetime earnings they make from a customer that buys into their hardware eco-system. One new Xbox customer is worth much, much more to MS than a single sale on an opposition platform.

Why bother spending 7.5B when they could have spent much less to just get them day 1 on Gamepass?

1B realistically could have locked up all Zenimax releases for next gen as Day 1 Gamepass games.

his goal is to get as many people subscribe to GAME PASS. Not selling boxes or games on PlayStation.

When you can't convert a market to Game Pass, there is still a profit to be made by selling directly the games.

I don't think they are looking at short term plays. The extra 2 or 3 million actual sales they would get can be offset by making their platform more attractive to people that aren't in the platform.

If you really want to play it you will find a way.

Getting you in their ecosystem is much more valuable to them than bringing it to yours.

Just ask Sony.

That is not why the Minecraft IP is multiplatform. Notch placed terms on the sale that MS agreed to. They are still legally bound to keep the IP multiplatform.

Don't assume for a second that they are sharing Minecraft out of the kindness of their heart. Chances are high that there won't even be a PS5 version.

I'd still prefer Microsoft stuck to creating their own studios and making brand new experiences instead of limiting the third party pool, but at least their renewed focus on PC means plenty of people won't miss out.

Oh no you're totally right about me lol. However value is subjective and people can't necessarily afford 2 different platforms to play on so it's either Sony's exclusive lineup or now microsofts/bethesdas output including gamepass. PC gamers are the huge winners here, seeing more playstation console exclusive titles also being available there.

by your logic, Xbox exclusives wouldn't be on PC, but alas they are... Which demonstrates how MS prefers revenue over market share.

MS didn't say "no PS releases" because they're not stupid and know they'd get ripped to shreds for a stunt like that, just like they did after their XB1 E3 conference.

Anyway, idc either way since I only like their Wolfenstein series, which is basically dead after that Youngblood trash

Do you think Microsoft just makes huge investments for fun, without expecting to make that money back? If they do, their entire management should be fired. But no, that's not how massive corporations work.

And I'm pretty sure they're losing money on Gamepass. They plan to make money on it eventually of course, but I'm not sure exactly HOW they plan on doing that.
 
Not sure why. If I was MS I wouldn't put either game on PS5. PS5 owners just have to deal with it and enjoy Demon's Souls, God of War 2, Horizon 2, Days Gone 2, Uncharted 5, among dozens of other exclusive games. Those poor PS5 owners, how will they cope without Elder Scrolls!
 
It's probably not set in stone one way or the other. I guess it depends how much Microsoft care about the hardware race and when the games release. I'd assume Starfield is 2-3 years out and TES even further. The console race might be decided by the time either game is ready to go. If the race is close, I could see Microsoft shutting the door completely on allowing it on Sony's platform. If they are way ahead or way behind, maybe they do timed exclusivity on their platform and then release it to Sony's system at a later date. Assuming VGChartz (haha) is anywhere close to accurate, Skyrim did 6.5M units on PS3 and another 4.4M units on PS4 between the Special Edition and VR Edition. They'd probably sell through 5 million units of a new release in the series. A late port would conservatively be worth $245M without factoring in DLC.

Or maybe the take a hard line to push Game Pass and only offer it via that service everywhere. And if that's the case, they could also start delisting their back catalogs from other platforms. That's the only scary timeline I see.

The truth is we don't know. I can see there being some timed exclusivity though. Surely Microsoft would want to maximise profits.

It's already been clearly stated that Bethesda's IPs will turn up on other consoles on a case by case basis. I'm just going to wait and watch Elder Scrolls, Starfield, and Fallout drop on the PS5, and chuckle at the reactions from those who currently have their heads stuck in the ground, singing "la la la i can't hear you ..."
 
To be honest, you better hope they are coming to Playstation OP.

If not, your Game Pass is gonna be like $100 per month to pay for those games.

I don't think that's what their are in for right now. Especially if Deathloop and Ghostwore sell the abysmal numbers I expect them to.

You don't understand that they goal is not to sell consoles, but to push people into their ecosystem (xbox + PC + + gamepass + xCloud). Every game sold on PS5 is one person less in MS ecosystem.

This is from the official acquisition announcement:

"One of the things that has me most excited is seeing the roadmap with Bethesda's future games, some announced and many unannounced, to Xbox console and PC including Starfield, the highly anticipated, new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios."

I see only Xbox and PC there. We'll see soon enough anyway.
 
Bethesda said they will continue to publish their games and want you to enjoy them on whatever device you own. That's pretty clear to me that Starfield, Elder Scrolls will be on PS5.

But Starfield is not out until 2022 at absolute best, ES maybe 2025, so we'll be waiting an age to find out.
 
Maybe because those games cost hundreds of millions of dollars and putting on gamepass won't make the money it needs.
Isolating Playstation and Nintendo sales is gonna cost alot of money
