Why do ppl catch feels over ppl using slang? It's the Internet let ppl do their thing bruh. Went in a thread and ITT ppl were catchin feels just because OP said "tryna" are you serious with this shit. It's honestly not that hard to understand IMO and if u need help Google is your friend.

It just amazes me my dude. I'm done ranting n shit, ur thoughts

#Rare thread from ya boy Remark what it do

It hurts my brain trying to figure out what people are trying to say when a post is full of slang.
Like catch feelings. What the fuck does that mean? I shouldn't need to go to urban dictionary to try to figure out what the fuck you're trying to say. You have to keep in mind not every body understands the same slang.

That's the thing.

I wanna find out why u find obnoxious someone said a word different than the way your used to. That's what bothers me.

In that specific instance, I think there's probably a more elegant and descriptive way someone could describe an event that seemed like a once in a lifetime opportunity.

In the instance of "tryna," it's a person purposefully going out of their way to repeatedly mistype "trying to"... to what purpose? Is it adding meaning to the conversation? Making the conversation easier to read? Just to save them typing the extra characters?

There not doing it on purpose it's just quicker to write. I really don't feel like typing out full words specially on my phone which where I post on NeoGAF the most. It's just a faster solution my dude.

If you dont understand what he's saying your probably still in grade school.

Coming from someone who is struggling with English themselves that seems a bit rich. Apologies if English is not your primary language, but come on, what a bullshit response. I'm in the school of thought that says you can write whatever you want, but your opinion may be taken as that of an imbecile if you can't even use whole words. And if you want to be understood, avoiding slang helps. You may not care if anyone understands what you are saying, I tend to care about things like that.

I dumped my first girlfriend because of her constant use of slang. Don't get me wrong I'm not a grammar Nazi or anything like that, but her constant use of slang made me feel as if I was dating someone that was raised in the projects.
[leet meltdown]

straight gold

edit: if you think the use of slang automatically makes conversation shallow or "inelegant"...1. as if elegance is the goal of conversation lol you live on fuckin downton abbey or somethin? 2. you don't understand conversation

shorthand is not slang. and vice versa.

but understanding should be. why in the hell would you type "accents" or slang in a forum how does that help anyone?

It's not supposed to Lel

I don't care about the ppl on this forum Imma type however suits me the best. Wether it be the "adequate" way on my comp or my way on my phone.

Did you respond to the wrong person?

Sorry, it's my catch-all response to people that don't understand slang. But it seems that your issue is that it "looks bad." I assure you that many people that use slang can speak/type properly if they want to. Particularly on this forum.

are you really this dense?

Huh?
I've never heard any one in my entire life say 'catch feelings' or anything similar.
So when I saw the thread title "why do ppl catch feelings over slang?" I wasn't sure what it meant at first.
Now imagine a post full of slang, and it's a headache trying to read.
Would be like if some British kid was to make a post full of unique slang from where he is from. Sure, I might be able to guess some of it from the context, but others I would have no idea, and either way it is just a pain to decipher.
If you are talking to other people that share and use the same slang sure. But these are global forums. There is no real reason to type in slang. Use words everybody is familiar with.

What the fuck is this bullshit reply? Maybe they are young, maybe they just learned English, maybe any number of fucking things that could explain them not knowing any particular piece of internet slang. Calling someone dense for not knowing a particular piece of jargon is pretty weak.

Then why don't they? All people can see of you here are your words; they are a projection of you in your physical absence. And, for better or for worse, people judge you if you tipe Lyke dis brah, mkay?

thanks for confirming that you're an idiot. on ignore you go.

still not good forum communication.

People type (and speak) in ways that are comfortable for them. It's sad that I've seen more progressive views on things like this on Reddit of all places. Using a manner of speech different from the norm isn't inherently incorrect.

I think part of the issue is that when a lot of people type how they speak 1:1, sometimes it comes across as if they're literally going out of their way to pull that shit. Like, I know I'd be straining myself if I was literally writing the same way I would casually speak to a friend or someone I know.

Getting uppity over "tryna" is pretty ridiculous, though.

What? That's the definition of incorrect.

Yes, it is incorrect. There is a right way to spell "like", and a wrong way to spell it. And you are going to be judged if you go out of your way to spell it incorrectly, because it signifies that you're either too lazy to add an "e" at the end or are trying for attention.

I have always felt that colloquialisms are interesting and fun, but I can understand keeping them away from formal conversations on the internet. Too bad some people seem really upset over it being present during casual talk, as well.

Lmao, this thread.

Because...? It's a simple matter to understand what they're saying.

no, it isn't. it's incorrect.

no one is getting uppity over "tryna" (it was way more than that by the way) it's the fact that somehow the other person is the villain for asking to type a sentence in normal English because I didn't understand what you just typed!

I say this as someone who English is his second language.

People bitching over slang is ridiculous.

However neogaf is comprised of a worldwide user Base and some consideration thrown their direction when constructing a post would be a nice thing to do.

This thread: equal parts veiled racism and trying too hard.

I do care for spelling and grammar, but I can let "tryna" or "imma" because it's not that big a deal.

But Remark's just trying too hard in this thread, though. And with appropriate responses. It's like PopGAF going off on a thread, but not as bad.

Ehhhh, no.

Different from normal != incorrect.

A lot of things that are different from normal may be incorrect, but the two aren't inextricably linked.

OP, what the fuck are you talking about?

BRB eating lead pain, drinking a bunch of booze, doing meth, and inflicting head trauma in order to understand WTF is going on.

But overall can we make it a rule so that people are encouraged to avoid slag and always include the name of the game, movie, or artist that is showcased in a post?

Or, again, it's a method of typing comfortable for them. I'm not *entirely* sure where spelling "like" as "lik" comes from (presumably texting), but it's a type of informal writing that uses less characters and is quicker.

In addition, just because certain things grab your attention doesn't mean that the person is going for attention when they do it. Not capitalizing grabs my attention, but I doubt it is done for attention. It also doesn't bother me because I don't mind that people are typing in ways that are comfortable for them. It's a discussion forum.

You are trying too hard.

This is a clear case of "Please Pay Attention To Me".
