I'm an absolute hypocritical idiot because the 1-2 years I smoked there would be many times where I did this. Yet I would never ever litter otherwise with any other stuff and absolutely hate littering, to the extent I pocket wrappers/packets/empty bottles etc. until I find a bin.

So stupid of me to just ignore that with cigs. The one crappy excuse is that cigarettes in a bin are a fire hazard, whereas just chucking them on the floor and stamping them is safer, but then I could have just picked them up and chucked them after that or stubbed them up on bins (which I did occasionally).

When I used to be a smoker I was guilty of smoking in the car and then tossing out the window. Cigarette butts smell like ass. When I would smoke out in public though I would either use a designated trash/receptacle, or I'd rub the butt into the dirt and toss it in an outside trashcan. Sorry for littering from my car.

Serious response. Ever since the first cigarette was rolled, the butt/roach was thrown on the ground. I doubt cowboys go searching for waste bins on the range. Everyone does it all over the world. You're not keeping it in your car ashtray, because then the whole car smells like an ashtray. Out the window is so much better. It's a victimless crime, that's why cops do it too. Also, gross to the dude who puts it in his pocket. You must smell like cigarette butts, which is considerably worse than smelling of smoke. PEACE.

To be fair, cigarettes in those days would've biodegraded an awful lot quicker than modern cigarettes. Doesn't take long for a loose piece of paper and some flakes of tobacco to be scattered on the wind.
