Why does Hercules have lightning powers?

Oblivion

Fetishing muscular manly men in skintight hosery
So that new Hercules movie seems to be very, very loosely based on the original myths. As a Greek mythology buff, that makes me unhappy. But story/plot butchering aside, the biggest WTF came when Hercules displayed that he has somehow harnessed the power of lightning:

It's like someone saw Thor and thought it'd be cool to make Hercules like that as well.

Is it so much to ask for one fricken good Hercules movie?

Surprisingly due to what they have shown of this Hercules movie, I would he surprised if the Hercules film that The Rock is staring in did not look much better.

This does not look like the Hercules movie that I want personally.

You did get a good Hercules movie.

For the same reason Marvel's Thor has all kinds of extra stupid shit in an attempt to make him more interesting.

Well, it has to be noted the Hercules film staring The Rock is specifically based on "Hercules: The Thracian War" graphic novels and not just the original legends directly to derive from.

The Rock's Hercules isn't gonna be much better. It's directed by Brett Ratner and is "realistic".

As for the lightning power? Super strength is boring. Even that douche from Twilight had it.

Not sure if serial.
Why wouldn't he be? Zeus is the God of sky and thunder. Hercules is Zeus' son. He passed the powers of thunder on to Hercules. I don't get what's so hard to understand about that. Did you not do basic biology at school or something?

its funny how there is two hercules movies this year. and it seems the rock one is gonna be better

Well, he is son of Zeus. who i believe have thunder as his power so why not? (yes, i know the original story never mention that Hercules have lightning power)

It doesn't look like he's actually harnessing the power of lighting, but just happened to be in the right spot at the right time.

Beside the trailer just looked like someone decided to mash Gladiator, 300, Hercules and Troy together and made a movie out of it.

saw it for free and wish i could ask for my time back

and to answer OP question

Zeus opened up the sky and hit the sword with lighting so that how he got it

Movie made me want a God of War movie

That was clearly a lightning sword...

You're just complaining for the sake of complaining.

No, for me that was a lightning bolt that suddenly become a lightning that whip and doesn't even touch the ''bad guys'' (look at the scene, the lightning doesn't touch them). With so bad effects for a Modern Movie it looks awful.

He hasn't got lightning powers - his Dad just shoots a lightning bolt at his sword and hey presto; lightning sword.

That's a representation like any other.

Here's what a 2nd Century Roman Interpretation of him

Why Roman you ask? Because Hercules his it's roman name. (Then why they never Call Zeus Jupiter in that case? Don't ask me)

I was poking fun at these depictions of Hercules that don't necessarily look like the strongest man on earth, however, Goltzius' Hercules is pretty damn ripped.

It would be cool if they got a body builder to play Hercules.

It is kinda weird how hercules didnt get lightning powers of any kind from his dad, atleast the ability to be resistant to it.
