Why does Rocket League have so many quitters?

its frustating game for newcomers like me

that being said i never rage quit, just played several hours and then stop playing it altogether, the matchmaking was ridiculous, always put me against player with way higher level

Never played rocket league (own it) but I can imagine why without too much thought. Do newcomers get stomped consistently?

not really stomped because RL's great with matchmaking, but easily frustrated because they haven't got the hang of the controls, how to hit the ball, or how to work with teammates

I don't touch unranked unless I'm playing with friends of wildly different skill. There's zero investment and zero punishment so no one cares and rightly so, it's unranked.

Keep at ranked and get up a bit, rage quitting is incredibly rare at higher levels. Conceding happens if anything.

Not sure what you consider "higher levels", but in Platinum I get plenty of them. That's only mid-tier though I guess. And I suppose there's a bit less of them than at the low ranks.

Some people can't take the emotional burden of losing. They lose enough in real life, and video games are supposed to be a haven from that grief.

This. I have a friend who will refuses to play competitive games with me because even the hint of losing frustrates him to no end.

He likes the idea of playing stuff like Overwatch and Rainbow Six, but hates getting killed despite being a relative novice player.

For example Overwatch pisses him off because of the "terrible" competitive mode. I tried to point out that the reason he is losing at first is because he needs to find his natural rank and most likely he belongs in the lower brackets until he gets better, but instead he gets pissed after 1 or 2 losses and calls it quits. (not to mention the toxic players at these low ranks who think they are pro player even though they suck ass)

At the end of the day he would rather do comp stomps against easy AI and call it a night.

Two sides to it, one is RL crashes or has dropped connections A LOT! I don't think I ever have a group session without one of us dropping or crashing and getting banned for nothing!

2nd, if you're clearly gonna lose, you might as well regain 1 minute of life and start a new game or go do something else - no one loses out.

It's bad when someone's raging and blaming you for shit and quits when you still have a chance. But when you blatantly have zero chance it's ok to be like GG games over I'm out.

yeah it's unfortunate that people just leave when they are 1 point behind. Comebacks can happen even if a team is losing by 3 points. I guess they want to play against completely incompetent teams with no challenge.

Not necessarily in defense of quitters, but Rocket League has issues with finding equally skilled competition for matches.

So many matches wasted because there are a couple players jumping off walls, rocketing around, passing the ball back and forth while the rest of the Bronze ranked players are driving around in circles waiting for the ball to come anywhere near the ground.

I'm somewhere in the middle of these two skill levels and I get frustrated with the game quite often because there are some people who clearly shouldn't be playing in the ranked match I am in. I haven't played for months so maybe this isn't much of an issue anymore.

End of rant.

it is getting worse, especially in 3v3 solo.

Though I do hate when its like 5-0, a minute to go, and no one will forfeit. If its late, I'll quit then.

play 2v2

I really hate it when people quit during a competitive match if we're only down one goal. It always feels good if we end up winning with a player short, though.

Every time I've tried to come back to the game I have this same problem. So yes, it's still an issue and it's insanely frustrating.

I mostly play ranked matchs in rocket league, and no many people leave the matchs actually, in casual match instead it is pretty frequent

99% of people who rage quit playing video games are shit tier skilled players anyway, so fuck em. How are you ever gonna get better if you don't play against people better than you?

I rage quit on occasion, but that's usually because I'm playing with 2 incompetent people. When I see people that can't even hit the ball, I leave. I'll take the L and a temp ban if it means not having to deal with idiots for 5 minutes straight.

Sometimes I think it's just not much fun. Like the game often puts you into matches that are 3-0 down or whatever, and I'll usually leave those.

But also if you get to the point where you're 3 or 4 nill down and have several minutes to go, sometimes you just stop having fun and it's easier to stop playing and get into another game.

It's easy to blame team mates, because it genuinely is the type of game where in many cases, a single team mate will cause a match to be frustrating. So that I think, causes a lot of people to leave.

Have to be honest, while I never leave in ranked, if it's casual and my team mates are annoying me, there's a decent chance I might leave the game and look for a better one. At the end of the day if we're 4:0 down and my team mates suck it doesn't really matter if I'm there, or a bot is.

Also, the importance of knowing when to rotate any basic strategic components like that, are huge. So it's easy to be on a team of players that don't get those mechanics, versus a team that do, and have that lead to an incredibly frustrating and one sided experience.

You know what's worse than quitters tho. Sarcastic dpad spam. Yeah spam what a save 20 times when I finally miss one after having to essentially park on our goalline(half) the entire game because you're playing ring around the rosies with the ball in the enemies corner.

Lol whenever that happens I spam back and then the rest of the game it is just that, and me just trying to blow up cars.

Occasionally but not often, even then there's rage quitters.
Non competitive is just drop in/out

There is no penalty. Just play ranked, people get punished for leaving by being deranked

Play 1v1. No worries about quitters. Though it's much more frustrating when you miss a shot because usually the opponent takes it back for a goal.

So for the last few days I have been playing ranked matches, I was previously unranked.

Honestly the ranked matches are no better, I can't even get to the silver division because every time I get a competent team the match after will be a complete shit show. Team members wanting to forfeit after going a goal down in the first 30 seconds and when we refuse to accept the forfeit they just quit any way or help the opposing team etc. I've been called every name possible because I dared to score or get to the ball first etc.

So now I'm languishing in the bronze division because half of the players are fucking spoilt idiots who throw fits for every reason possible.

Everyone quits in QP, that mode is so boring to me because of that, no one cares about losing or winning, they just don't give a fuck. It's just like OW tbh.

So.. I just play ranked and try to ignore all the ranks stuff,in both games.

I've started getting into RL and yeah a lot of people quit. But bots and new players take their spot well enough. I'd hate to play ranked without a crew and relying on pub matches

It makes ranked unplayable, really. Way too rampant, it's constantly happening.

Mostly stick to Rumble these days, barely any quitting there.

People hate being reminded that they aren't as special as they imagine. ;)

It would annoy me if I wasn't so used to it. I grew up playing real sports, and as another poster mentioned, sportsmanship was a big part of the experience. For me, if you quit because you hate losing, or think "this is unfair", or "my team sucks" you have no honor or respect for the spirit of competition.

Part of competition is learning from losing and facing those who are better than you. Additionally, the best are always competing with themselves to get better so what others are doing is not the central concept.

I can't be angry at someone who is just better than me at something. If it matters to me, I admire their skill and try to incorporate lessons from them.

Pretty much this. You see this in every competitive game.

I think part of it is the disconnect of singleplayer which pretty much always pretend you are the shit, and then people hop in MP and realize they're still bottom tier and have to actually put in effort to get good.

all online competitive games should track quits and disconnects mid match. actual loss of connections is fairly rare so if a history or pattern of someone dumping mid game they should be penalized in some fashion and the game should match them with like players until their history is clean again.

People starting to quit when the score is 0:1 wirh 3 or more minutes left. It is extremely annoying, especially when I think of games where my team was already loosing 0:3 or more and still made a comeback to win in the end.

Also strange: people with the smallest score are often the ones that poison the atmosphere with their hatespeech.

It's really bad in overwatch. I'd say a good third of my comp matches have someone quit after the first point even if it's still close. Usually they are the most useless player on the team but still why are they even playing comp at that point.

i quit usually because the other players are just straight up bad at the game or not trying/playing. i'm not saying i'm an amazing player or anything but i've played for ~130 hours and veteran. most people i seem to play with are below or at veteran themselves.

what annoys me is when people just sit there AFK and soon get kicked or stay in the one spot but move a little so they don't get kicked, keep hitting the ball to our own net, constantly and deliberately crashing into/blocking me usually it's an accident which i don't mind. i do it myself and simply just not defending properly. everyone just speeds right up front and leaves the goals wide open. i'm not expecting people to defend while i go upfront...i actually enjoy defending and do it a lot but i like to play offensively sometimes too!

i just want people to take the game some what serious and not just goof around. i don't care really if i win or lose a game. if i'm getting beat 10-0 then no big deal as long as we are giving our all. i don't care about any stats. i enjoy the game but sometimes players just don't play the objective and that annoys me.

It's better in ranked, that's for sure. I'd say I play ranked 99% of the time.

In terms of how often people ragequit in ranked, IME it's maybe 5%-10%. Occasionally you will get 2 or 3 matches in a row where it happens, which sucks, but that's rare.

tl;dr just play ranked. And turn off the chat if you need to (sometimes I'll just use quick chat... but I normally like to hear the crazy/silly things people say in the game).

The worst are the ones on your team that quit when you're only 1-2 goals behind. I've had people score goals for the other team on purpose when behind and then talk trash in the chat saying that the rest of the team sucks.

If my teammates are not playing as a team, I will quit.
I may try to coax them into working together first but, if they don't, I'm out.

If I'm playing like shit and costing the team goals, I will quit.
They're better off with a bot if I'm stinking up the pitch.

If I have a teammate with a red ping, I will quit.

If my team, usually a pick-up-group, is getting annihilated by an expert partied-up team, to the point of embarrassment, I will quit.

If I drop into a game and we're already losing like 8-0, I will quit.

My time is precious, and I have a low tolerance for bullshit. I don't need to win all the time and, in fact, have had some of my best personal performances whilst still losing, but I shall not suffer nonsense.

This is all in unranked, btw. If it's ranked, I generally stick it out. But, because of the high frequency of having to stick it out with douchebag teammates, I tend to not play ranked with randoms anymore.

The behavior has been better in ranked for me too. I think I just made it to silver.

I turned voice chat off before ever playing online, but occasionally I've seen marginally funny stuff in the chat box. Someone told me I was really bad at the game an hour or so into what was my first attempt (I didn't take it as an insult, it was true) and yesterday a random teammate got mad and said everyone but him was trash. I just said "lol" to hopefully piss him off more, and because it's a video game.

In my experience of recent times the community in general is turning in to cesspit.

Everything from "go kill yourself" to "hope you get cancer"

It's a real shame. The community used to be great. You do get odd games where the opposite team are friendly...hell even your own team mate turns on you.

Either I'm really good and people are pissed or I'm bad and people are pissed.

I've been playing since launch and aside from the honeymoon period the community has always been very toxic(like in every popular competitive game).

I virtually never quit. It's tempting sometimes though because matchmaking is all over the place.

It's no fun hammering or getting hammered by another team. Especially when it's one person flying through the air scoring 6 goals.

A few nights ago my teammate voted to forfeit after we conceded the first goal of the game about a minute in. We went on to win 4-1 and I was like you wanted to forfeit? Being down 1 goal in RL means nothing for the most part, since goals can happen so quickly.

That's very true. The way I figure it, as long as you have 30 seconds remainng for every goal that you're down, you still have a decent chance to turn it around.

I'll be honest, my friend and I quit pretty often when we're paired. There's no accounting for skill in casual matchmaking, but we can usually tell if we're totally outclassed or not. We're happy to tough it out and try for a come back or catch them in the next round if the skill level is compatible, but there's no point in grinding against players with moves and coordination we have no hope against. I can't imagine it's very satisfying for them either. We're not angry when we do it; it's about not wasting time when both teams could be having fun. Yes, we're making that call for both parties, but that's how it is.
