Why don't more people only drink water?

most people are sheep.

there are not commercials showing bears sliding down snow covered hills drinking water (coke). No commercials showing sexy ladies singing about water (Fanta). No commercials showing people dancing in the street after drinking water (Sundrop)

Most people don't care but as sheep they follow sponsorship.

Rubbish. All bottled water is accompanied by lifestyle commercials.

Experiencing the beauty of water after being super dehydrated is comparable to sex. Nothing is better than water, I only drink sodas when water isn't available.

I don't understand how people can call water boring.
Because it is boring? Shit, i drink water mostly because i cant be bothered bringing those bottles home from the store and it bores me to tears most of the time. Drinking water is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

I drink plenty of water, but variety is the spice of life.

Coffee, tea, sparkling water, beer, wine, mixed drinks... Why deprive yourself?

I will have a soda every now and then (maybe 3 a week) but other than that I only drink water. Ice cold water is fucking delicious.

Water is great, I drink it all the time. The only time I drink soda is when it's my only option or for the rare occasion I want variety.

I remember a while back we had an addiction thread and dudes were talking about soda as if it were equal to nicotine or hard drugs. Haha man that was funny stuff

Most people don't care but as sheep they follow sponsorship. Other beverages are showcased with more flare thus most consumers chose those over water.

Personally all I primarily drink is water here are the results:

-With light exercise I'm now at my ideal weight for my height 185 compared to 235
-My blood pressure is not normal with minimum BP medication
-I have more energy
-Have not gotten seriously ill in over a year

All from drinking 28oz of water every morning. I'm 32 years old by the way.
All I drink is juice and
-I have perfect wight
-Normal blood sugar and blood pressure
-Energy has never been a problem for me.
-Rarely get sick, and when I do get sick it passes with in a day.

I probably only drink 3 cups of water a year. Don't drink sodas though.

One bottle of water a day and some milk when I feel like it, apart from the odd can of fanta or agrum (maybe once or twice a month).
Oh and a bottle of orange or pineapple juice once a month or so for some vit c.

Not out of any principle, I just like water it is way better at quenching thirst.

Since I no longer drink soda or any other beverage with sugar I am pretty much never thirsty anymore.

People are pathetic and fat so they get addicted to sugar to answer your question OP.

Just to add although I am a water and milk person I love to indulge in the Smoothie King!
It's close enough to another drink!

I drink water almost exclusively. The exceptions are milk with a good dessert and a Fitz a couple times a month.

I started drinking mostly water about, say, a year ago, and I've lost roughly 15-20 lbs because of it. I only occasionally have a soda maybe once every week or two, and I also drink my fair share of skim milk every day. Probably the best health decision I've made and kept in my life so far.

As someone who suffers from hypertension. I have no choice really. You don't look at things like sodium content until your told it can kill ya.....Which is why I don't typically buy bottle water.

Ehm, "boring" taste I guess? Also a lot of people almost need the caffeine and sugar in a lot of drinks. I personally almost solely drink water, except for some soda once in a while, and even less uncommon some fruit juice. Don't really have something against it though, just like to drink water.

Ah yeah, and chocolate milk, tea and other stuff. But those are pretty rare for me to drink.

I beg to differ. I drink pop and juice now and then but it always leaves a sticky film in my mouth - so I chase it with water...

I don't drink anything but water. Even when I go out to eat dinner some place I just get water. This reminds me of Stephen Merchant explaining why Ricky Gervais always has headache's and it was because Ricky thought water was boring and never had enough in his system it was always soda or fatty foods. Also reminds me of this scene:

Ah yes, the "all people are sheep except me"-poster. Also correlation isnt causation.

As far as the losing weight thing, I too lost all my extra body fat when eliminating pop from my diet.

That shit is a lot of calories, and slimming down = better health.

Drinking the same thing day in day out is boring. Just like eating the same thing every day is boring. You can delude yourself into thinking it isnt, but that doesnt make it not boring.

I switched to only drinking water about 6 months ago. It was a little weird, but now it actually tastes good. So, just wondering. Why don't more people, really first world inhabitants, drink water when they eat meals?

Also, another question. Why do low income people buy soda over just drinking water? Wouldn't it save money for them in the long run to just drink water during their meals?

Edit: More info. 22 year old male. Used to drink soda, but stopped b/c mother thought it was unhealthy. Then only drank fruit juice. Then stopped that 6 months ago to only drink water.

Think for yourself. Question authority.

You can spice water up if you wanted though. A couple of slices of your favorite fruit could do the trick. I drop a few pineapple or apple slices in my water from time to time

Because sugary drinks are easier to palate than tasteless water.

Personally, I'll take water every time now, but once you get hooked on that sugar, it's hard to go back.
I went cold turkey (for the most part).

I can't stand fizzy drinks now.

Water doesn't really taste anything. Feels good to drink during a hot summer or when you're thirsty in the middle of your job though.
Most of the time it's nice to drink something that actually taste something. Water for breakfast? Bleh, no thanks. Chocolate milk or orange juice? Yes!

i've been mostly drinking water for about a year or so now. i'd say about twice i had some pepsi while eating out (and felt bad about it) and occasionally i drink milk when eating (although you should not drink milk unless you're a baby). before that i drank fruit juice with no added sugar, but i gave that up. i did have some pineapple juice the other day. at this point i'm sure you all are endlessly fascinated by my eating habits, so i'm going to continue by mentioning that although i do eat meat out of laziness i wish i was a vegetarian, and plan on embarking on that journey in the future. as to my water consumption, i drink several glasses a day, but have not counted the exact quantity, and it varies from one day to another. my greatest conundrum at the moment is dairy products, as i love cheese (not the blue smelly kind which is an abomination, but the yellow kind the moon is made of) but do not feel that it is a good diet for me. i am not a lactose intolerant, but the thought of drinking and eating products made of juice squeezed from a cow is extremely unsettling, to say the least, but at the same time the idea of suckling the teet of a breastfeeding woman has strange and ineffable allure to me. on the whole, therefore, h2o is my number one liquid sustenance, but i am open to different possibilities, and my definite nature in these matters is yet to be determined.

I drink water, beer, and milk. Thats about it. Soda about once a month, and juice maybe once a week. I feel pretty good most of the time.
EDIT: I guess I started drinking alot of that lipton green tea citrus stuff. Shits good man.

Yeah, i drink only water. A cup of coffee in the morning and one after dinner.
And red wine in the evening.

But no soda, and no milk. Not even juice, only sometimes when it's freshly made for me.

It's not like you did heroin or something. One pepsi won't impact your health.

(although you should not drink milk unless you're a baby).

ooookaaaayy

Up to the age of 14 years i was the most healthy goddamn kid in the world, i did not like stuff like soda, chips, fastfood. Only drank water. I was never ever sick.

Now i eat fastfood, drink coke and smoke, and i never ever get sick!

So screw that.

I'm a little shocked there are so many healthy people posting, its a great thing though.

I'll gonna use this thread as a challenge to myself to get off of or seriously cut down on anything but water and OJ. Sugar is addictive for me, heres my normal intake..
a coke with lunch and dinner
a bottle of water or two throughout the day
a cup or glass of OJ in the morning
0-3 monster energy drinks a week (usually at work, never more than 1 a day)
1+ beers on any given day

Right now I don't feel like giving up my casual beers, but I can because nothing has me addicted there. The sugar in soda and energy drinks (as well as the other shit they put in there) has me wired to drink those in certain situations, mainly for enjoyment.

It can't be good for my body so I'm gonna test myself and see if I can make a change, i've tried before and couldnt last a week.

(26 year old underweight at 5'10'' 135 lbs, high metabolism, some physical activity but no regimented workouts)

People like sugary drinks.

Though I'll never get how people can think of water as boring. There is nothing more refreshing than a nice glass of ice water. NOTHING.

Just because you're not drinking soda doesn't mean all you have to drink is water.

Fruit juice ain't so hot for you either.

Went to all water about 6 weeks ago. First 2 weeks were hell, but after that you start to notice the positive effects. I might have a soda or sweet tea from time to time though.

1. Lose weight
2. Sleep better at night
3. Have more energy during the day

I also exercise regularly and try to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

Someone on here had posted a video about sodas from a college professor I think and it gave me a wake up call. I used to be hardcore coke and mt. dew all day.
I have to wait 2 weeks? I stopped drinking soda last Sunday because I was afraid I had tempted Diabetes for too long. I feel like butt, I'm still a little tired though out my entire day, and my wife keeps saying that she liked me better "on the sauce". I've spent a decade swimming in coke, and it's time I change, but water doesn't have a taste. The biggest change I had to make was separating the "I feel thirsty, I must have a coke," impulse to a "I feel thirsty, I must drink something."

No, it really isn't... What water are you drinking? Do you equate riding a roller coaster to drinking a coke?

Sure, I can appreciate eating something with say - no salt. It's bland and dry and terrible. Water is tasteless and depending on the temperature, you don't even feel it going down your throat.

It's like a smoker calling air boring.

Water has never been refreshing to me.

You took that the wrong way. My mom stopped buying soda when I was like 17. I just drank whatever she bought. I stopped drinking juice on my own whim. She actually wanted to drink juice once in a while, but I really can't go back. Totally my decision.

Also, I do drink milk occasionally. No alcohol though.

1.) Depending on the state, the tap water can have a bad taste to it, making it less acceptable straight out of the tap or water fountain.

2.) Many people are too lazy to install water filtration systems, and I don't know if it can remove the bad taste for people in those areas.

3.) Many people dislike the "water bottle" taste that accompanies bottled water.

4.) People like sugar.

Depending on the scenario, it could be all or one of these factors that tips the scale in favor of something else. Personally, I'd rather drink juice than water OR carbonated stuff. Carbonated drinks are probably my least favored.
