This is a problem with message boards and the Internet in general. Ignoring that the gaming demographic isn't necessarily the most mature or reasonable group out there, the anonymity the Internet provides tends to bring out the 15 year-old in all of us in some way or another.

That said, GAF is the best gaming forum (and online community in general) I've frequented since I first started using the Internet. The rules are good quality and they're enforced by a membership policy that makes people value their accounts. While there may be a few dumbshit threads here, the proportion of shit posters on other sites is exponentially higher than on GAF.

Nobody likes to be told that their opinion is somehow "wrong".

This, and like others have said, this extends outside the 'gaming community' and spills over to the rest of the internet on any topic.

Also, people don't want to be saddled with the idea that they made a bad purchase/rental and have their tastes come into question, so it'll get defended to death.

I'm fine with people being unreasonable, because people are stupid. And I am also ok with people saying a game sucks or it's the worst game ever, Its just an expression. What annoys me is that we have to have a comparison thread for every game which is just fanboys bickering back n fourth. And we can't enjoy games anymore, we have to count pixels and worry about FPS counts, and all sorts of things. Half the OT threads are pixel counting, and saying which system its better on, we don't even talk about gameplay anymore

Haha. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. I feel like on GAF people are honest though and if someone calls you out on something, they're at least partially justified in their argument. That's a lot better than I can say for other gaming forums, at least. I will recognize and accept that there are superior communities out there for niche interests, but as a general forum I think GAF is doing pretty well.

That's not an excuse for your post at all.

Dismissing a game because you see is at a "kid's game" is not fair criticism. It's also condescending to those that play the game. If you were to back up your post with valid criticism, then you would not have been banned.

I started lurking NeoGAF and registered since this is the forum where I read more interesting posts. Almost all the discussions are civilized, just look out there and it's crap.

I don't understand why people say crappy things "just for the sake of it" , and then try to defend that without giving arguments or stuff. But here in NeoGAF, it happens less often.
