Why has Castlevania Bloodlines never been given a digital rerelease?

If Konami gave two flying fucks anymore they would be working right now on a Castlevania Legacy Collection that included all three NES games and all three 16bit vanias (IV, Bloodlines, and Rondo) to piggyback off of the success of the CV Netflix series' awaited 2nd season. Throw The Adventure Rebirth in there for good measure too... it has dabbled on WiiWare-only long enough.

If they gave a shit that's what they should be doing. Fast, easy, cheap money to be made that's going to float by itself thanks to the Netflix series and it especially needs to happen because of Bloodlines situation where it's still only available legally on a Genesis cartridge!
This is all turbo true. Depressingly so. What the fuck Konami, this is marketing 101 shit; easy money here.

I think you could argue that Bloodlines has a decidedly more Castlevania-like soundtrack than IV, but IV's is kind of its own thing so it feels weird to compare only quality wise. I think it's amazing but I kinda prefer Bloodlines' too.

The NES Contra hasn't been released digitally either. Super C did, but not the first one.

I thought this had been brought up already but yeah, there's definitely something weird going on with some old Konami games. Some licensing problem of some sort? I mean, the arcade version of the original Contra was re-released by Hamster recently, but the NES Classic had Super C instead of NES Contra for some reason.

They can't get this guy past the ESRB:

I don't know why it has gotten a digital release, but I'd love if it did. I've never played it, but I would buy it (and any kind of classic Castlevania Collection, really) immediately. Also, I've tried to ask this before, but never really got an answer... who owns the rights to Castlevania 1-3, and SC4? Nintendo, or Konami? I ask because these four games have never seen any official release outside of Nintendo consoles, AFAIK. Could we actually get a "Castlevania Legacy Collection" on PS4, or nah? Would anybody know?

It's really a great game, and a special treat if you've played Portrait of Ruin.

Agreed. Come to think of it, it's actually really odd that anyone cared enough to make PoR a sequel of sorts to Bloodlines. As someone who absolutely loves Bloodlines, though, I really appreciated all of the Bloodlines fan service...especially the music. PoR has one of my favorite soundtracks in the series.

I'm pretty sure they're fully owned by Konami, I mean, considering they went to the lengths of publishing some under the name Ultra to bypass Nintendo's publishing restrictions at the time.

HOWEVER I believe I read Nintendo doesn't allow third parties to re-release their games if they use emulation of Nintendo systems unless they're only being released for current Nintendo systems. Which is why the Mega Man Legacy collection had to use a roundabout method that it's sort of emulation but not really.

So yeah, I think what's stopping more compilations of beloved classic series from happening is the fact that some of them started and/or flourished on Nintendo systems lol.

Ah, interesting. Sounds like chances of a PS4 CV collection are slim. Konami certainly can't be expected to put in any effort, so... :p
