Why haven't you bought PS Vita yet?

So if a game is multiplatform then it's not a real <console> game?
I mean, I can still understand someone who has other consoles and doesn't find multiplatforms to be compelling for a new hardware purchase, but saying that the library itself sucks because of multiplaforms, especially if you already own it, is kind of nonsense
Well I'm looking at it only from my perspective. If someone dosen't have a PS3 or PS4 then sure I guess the library is good for them. I do and so the Vita does not actually offer me anything on it's own. When half it's games are games I'd rather play elsewhere then the library kind of sucks. It's exclusives are made up of otaku waifu games that do not compel me. I'm not sure how it's nonsense. I own plenty of systems, so I like a system to actually have things that justify it compared to others. Playing ports are nice, but I could easily live without playing portable versions of them. When I can easily trade in and get rid of a system and not miss it's games, because I can play them everywhere else then the system's library kind of sucks.

If you're going to bring up "well the PS2 is losing a lot of it's games due to hd ports, does that mean the PS2 sucks now". No, because I'm talking about the here and now. Pretty much in every case, I'll pick the console version of a current game over the vita version, because I'd rather play the console version. Hence it's hard to justify the vita when it's library makes no real reason to own it.

Not interested though I can see it has great value. 15-20 years before would play the shit out of it. Now I just play a few titles I really want.

The only people that are into the industry enough to know the vita exists probably have a platform that is cannibalizing the vita's library.

When you're dealing with people who already own other gaming devices, exclusives are the deal breaker.

Virtue's Last Reward, Persona Golden, Persona 3, Dangan Ronpa, Memories of Celceta, Lone Surviror Directors Cut, Tearaway, Muramasa Rebirth and Broken Sword 5 made it well worth it for me. I've certainly used it a lot more than my 3DS. Edit: And Corpse Party.

Ps + is well worth it especially if you have other Ps systems, but my biggest problem with the Vita it is the limit on the memory card.

Well... because it's dead in the water as a standalone gaming platform, obviously.

Yes, I know there's a lot of stuff coming out for it and some of it does certainly look decent even, but Sony's attitude towards the console makes me too wary to trust how long games will continue to be made for it even if the immediate future does give the impression of a fairly packed schedule.

It's a shame, because the hardware is appealling to me and it even has some of my favourite games already available on it in addition to a fair few exclusive titles I'd like to play (As well as the dozens of Plus titles I've got 'banked'). That said, seeing as I'm picking up a PS4 soon and a local electronics store near me has some of the original 3G Vitas they've never managed to shift on clearance for £99, I have found myself considering it in my weaker moments lately.

Gotta play dem waifanimus and indies.

I'm not into handhelds, but I was still considering Vita due to some very interesting games. However, the battery life is pretty bad on both models, the situation with pricey storage puts me off, it's still too expensive for me, and it's practically dead and abandoned at this point.

Better luck next time.

Welcome to the VitaGAF.
.

It's a simple formula.

(Price + bullshit accessory prices like memory cards) / (compelling software - software I already fucking bought on Steam 2 years ago)

That number has to reach a certain point to interest me. It is currently nowhere even close to that mark.

I had one, but sold it. Not worth it because I'm all about digital, and Sony wants to force me to buy their proprietary bullshit memory cards.

I hadn't bought one yet because the games weren't there.

Now that there is a bulk of available and coming games for it I'm about to buy one in the next month.

i bought a vita because i had to get tearaway. i can't imagine the game will be any better on the ps4. i sincerely mean that.

if people are curious as to what the vita has, this is what i would recommend:

persona 4 golden (jrpg) - the definitive version of persona 4, although admittedly i haven't played this version of it, it has more to it than the ps2 original with extended story bits (including a new character)

disgaea 3: absence of detention (srpg)
disgaea 4: a promise revisited (srpg)
both games are also the definitive versions of disgaea 3 and 4 on the ps3. they include all the dlc from the ps3 releases plus new characters and extended story bits too.

danganronpa: trigger happy havoc (visual novel)
danganronpa 2: goodbye despair (visual novel)
murder mystery games with a bit of phoenix wright investigation bits and court room drama, and a bit of persona's social linking and sense of style.

ys: memories of celceta (arpg) - this is ys iv done by the original creators of the series. in the 90s the series had been handed out to other developers, so this is falcom's way of making an actual ys iv. it's not really a remake. the story has the player wander around the forests of celceta and map them for the kingdom. it's a simple and light affair, and really nice and easy to get into.

tearaway - i really can't recommend this enough. so much of what makes it work is the physical and direct interaction people have with the game world. it's why i think a lot will be lost in the ps4 version, where people will merely be going through the motions in a platformer instead of seeing all of the designers' original choices.

as of now i haven't played gravity rush yet, but i've only heard good things. the vita's also a great choice for me at least when it comes to playing psp and playstation one games i never had a chance to give a go. just played the first suikoden a few months ago and really enjoyed it.

so i mean it's really what you put into it. i think there's enough fairly mainstream stuff on it. honestly i think the only part of my tastes that are really niche is with regards to brand recognition and not so much genre or content.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I travel for business a ton and I never owned a PS2/PS3 before, so I actually welcome the HD Remakes and console quality games on the VITA.

Because it has like 5 games I want and most of those are in the "eh I guess I'd give it a go" territory rather than "omg must have" territory.

I bought one last week!

Price was the reason I had waited so long. I didn't go into town expecting to buy a Vita, but when I saw it at £150 with a free 8GB memory card and ten downloadable games including LBP, Wipeout, and Ratchet and Clank... I had to bite.

Couldn't give a damn about Vita games though - they either look like solid 7 or 8 out of 10 games praised as "greats" because there's nothing better available (Gravity Rush), portable versions of IP that make me think "this would look and handle so much better on console" (Uncharted, Killzone), or ports of PS2 games that again are only praised as great games because there are no great games designed specifically for Vita. Tearaway seems to be the sole exception, and even that's coming to PS4 soon.

I bought the Vita specifically for all the PSOne classics I already own on the PSN but for some reason am not allowed to play on my PS4. Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy 7-9, Grandia, Klonoa, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Breath of Fire, etc. I waited for a low price because, to me, the Vita is a glorious portable nostalgia trip that failed at trying to be a modern gaming machine.

I have a vita, but most of my friends who had a psp dont have a vita because there is no gta, god of war, monster hunter etc. on vita.
The indies are nice, but I think most people want AAA to justify a purchase and the vita just doesnt offer enough in that regard.

The only interesting games in my opinion are ports and I already have all the ports on other platforms (all the ones I want that is)

Because it's still too expensive given the cost of memory, and it doesn't do anything better than my phone besides gaming, and yet it doesn't have any games I particularly want that I can't get anywhere else.

Vita is a strange creature. Its basically perfect for me and it's my most played system. It just seems that either I'm a very niche audience or others like me are not aware of it.

Its perfect for me because:
•I love off TV play as I'm a dad who only would get 2-3 nights Max to game on a TV.
•I love Indies on it. Never got into them on PC.
• ff and persona games
• psx classics
• some great exclusives like soul sacrifice and gravity rush.
• remote play.

The last point alone is enough for me to keep a vita as long as I have a ps4 as it goes with the first point.

Its great. But if you have free access to a TV and have no need for portability then sure I get why its not for you. But I never understand why anyone would buy any portable if they didn't need that feature. Yes exclusives are why but that's just dumb to me.

And I have contemplated a 3ds multiple times but the games on it arnt my taste.

I bought one but I don't even use it, can't blame people that haven't bought it tbh
Yeah. It is getting a couple Japanese games localized in the near future worth grabbing but this myth where it has had a great year of Japanese games outside of Japan baffles me. In my country, it got baby's first dungeon crawler, some waifu games, and some PS3 ports.

If I could do it all over, i'd probably buy mine sometime next year.

Well, I've done my part. I had my Vita since launch. Fantastic piece hardware with some great games. Thanks to PS+ I've played games that I wouldn't pay for with my own money.I recommend it to everyone.

Because I bought a Sony handheld at launch once(the PSP) and I got so incredibly burnt by it's crappy shovel ware and PS2/3 ports that I learned my lesson the first time.

Now that I see the vita, all I see is a Japanophile's wet dream. Anime games and JRPG's aplenty. It has a vast library...... of games I have zero interest in.

TL;DR: I don't like non-Nintendo Japanese games.

I barely knew that it existed, until VitaGAF hyped the shit out of me. And so far I am very satisfied, there may be far less games then on the 3DS, but that's still plenty. I love my Vita, she's sweet.

same answer every thread

the hardware is cute, but is pretty much nothing compared to the PSPGO: 16 gb internal, DualShock 3 support, TV out options, actually portable. those half baked analog sticks are asking for trouble.

There's only 2 games I'm interested in and the cost involved just isn't worth it, especially as Sony seem completely uninterested in supporting it.

Well, I got:

- PSP for Crisis Core
- Wii for Xenoblade
- PS3 for FFXIII
- 3DS for Bravely Default

- Vita for ???

Can't put a game there yet, so no buy.

They were sold out on launch here, so I was so frustrated that I bought a 3DS instead.

Then I finally bought a Vita, and I have lots of games for it and I usually play it very often.
The 3DS still only have Mario 3d, and Is never used... :/

At least the 3DS will have a larger resell value. You should have waited if you don't have multiple games you want to play on the hardware lol.

I own a VIta but wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't already very invested in what it offers.

When Sony has all but abandoned it, there's no customer confidence. At least Wii U will continue to get fantastic 1st party games, Vita has no such life line.

I have a PS Vita. Played a few of the PS Plus games but not that many. Got Tearaway as well and that is good. The hardware is very nice but there are not enough good games on it. I haven't played anything on it in about 2 months. I got it as a present, I probably wouldn't have bought one myself.

Every game on that list is mediocre tho. Except xenoblade possibly. Never played that.

I looked though the exclusives list and there wasn't enough to interest me, not when it's still this expensive. For platform that has arguably already passed its prime I just can't justify it.

It's generous to say Vita has tons of JRPGs when most of them are straight up garbage. I still think Vita is worth owning for a handful of games but the future release list is brutal.

OP it's totally normal that people don't buy Vita, most of the people doesn't care to know what a platform that doesn't interest have, Sony with no ads, no E3 exposure etc made nothing to increase people interest and know what Vita really has, add haters with Vita haz no gaemz lies and you'll understand why people don't buy Vita.

I have Vita since D1 and i know how uber awesome it is, but honestly i can't blame too much people for not knowing what Vita has, it's mostly Sony's fault, i'm just pissed that people is more inclined to listen to liar haters than informing themselves or listening to who really has a Vita.

Not enough interest me (Ys Calceta, Tearaway) to do the investment.

I'm going to get it eventually a few years from now.

Bought it in April and it quickly became my most played console. Granted, I have a giant backlog and I'm not sure I'll still keep playing it a lot after I'm done with it...

Bought one, enjoyed it for a while and then realized the games I wanted on it weren't actually very well suited to it, or that those games were very unlikely to actually be coming to the thing anyway, so sold it and went back to big screen gaming.

Shame, as I do kinda miss KZ Mercs and Uncharted.....

I thought my daugher could have it, but she wasnt interested either.

edit : And I never sell my consoles :-) they are a part of my family :-)
