Why haven't you bought PS Vita yet?

Honestly, literally nothing about it interests me. Sometimes the thought pops in my head that I should buy one cos I have PS+ then I instantly remember that would be a waste of money and I would rather play those games on my TV.

I got my Vita end of 2013. Got myself a nice little bargain for it, i think it was around £140. That got me a Vita, 10 games (4 of which are worth playing, i think they were Little Big Planet, Motorstorm, Lemmings and 1 other which i forgot). It also came with a 16gb memory card and a case.

Since then, i've bought Borderlands 2, Assassin's Creed: Liberations (yeah, it was ok at best), Metal Gear Solid HD, Terraria and Tearaway. Got countless PS+ games including Uncharted, Soul Sacrifice, Sly Cooper and Hotline Miami to name a few.

It's a great handheld, and accompanies my PS4 well. Especially with Pixel Junk Shooter

Lol we have a very different definition of hentai. The only game of those that's a bit out there is monster monpiece and thats cause of the rubbing. Those other games aren't anywhere near hentai... at all

But this is a major problem that plagues the Vita: The almost complete lack of western games outside of indies. Combine this with the absurdly vocal minority that is Anime-Vita GAF flooding the PSN/Vita thread with hundreds of posts per person every month about obscure visual novels and waifu bullshit and you have a perfect recipe for driving away anyone who is interested in the platform.

I honestly could not recommend a Vita to anyone who isn't a huge fan of niche titles from Japan. Retailers have stopped stocking it, western developers have stopped supporting it, and the library has become incredibly one dimensional. :(

Having both a PS4 and PSV, it is the exact opposite for me.
It's hard for me to play Terraria, Spelunky, Rogue Legacy, Don't Starve, Oli Oli, Hohokum ... on the big-screen, it is far more comfortable to play them on the Vita. And far more enjoyable to me.

Although with cross-play and save sync, it's sometimes nice to pick up progress on the big-screen.. but there's nothing like playing these titles in comfort at the end of a long day.

You honestly couldn't? What about all those fantastic indies you mentioned?

You are complaining about visual novels, but Danganronpa is actually getting great reviews and feedback, and I doubt that classifies as hentai.. sounds like you are generalizing.

Some of the best games I've played are visual novel type games. (Like Hotel Dusk)

Vita is probably a great system, but I'm booked up with PC + 3ds. There's more than enough games on those to take up my time.

I did; played all the games I was interested in and then traded it for something with a bigger library. As someone with a psp and an extensive collection of psp games, the vita had very little to offer me. That and the memory card prices which kept me from bothering with most digital titles.

- not a good enough library
- too expensive to justify
- turn over of devices suggests new one to replace soon enough
- my android phone is sufficiently coping with what gaming I do on a handheld for now
- more interested in DS/3DS library

I bought one about a month ago and I love it. Bought it so I could remote play Destiny but in the meantime I've really enjoys Dragon's Crown and Fez. Just started playing Persona4 Gold, and its so good I thought it deserved its on sentence.

Best gaming purchase I've made in a really long time.

most of the good games are ports (FFX, persona 4, MGS2, MGS3)
it's too expensive for basically a port handheld. and the memory cards are overpriced. I mean most of vitas games can be played in better form on ps3. portability is the only advantage but I'm not traveling enough to make use of that really. at work I have 15-30 minute breaks so I need more pick up and play games like 3DS offers.

for the home PS consoles are the best. but Nintendo is best for handhelds because their games are more simple and more pick up and play compared to an in depth story drive nRPG like Persona 4 or FFX

I would like to have one as a PS4 companion. What's mainly holding me back is the media prices. I would go digital only, and until media costs are in step with MicroSD and other "generic" media, I simply cannot justify jumping in.

I bought mine early 2013, right before Souls Sacrifice came out.

2013 was a very good year for PS Vita in my opinion. 2014 has been alright so far in terms of games here in the states and europe, but very good if you're into Japanese games. So many new games coming and so many more in development. It's a very under-appreciated system considering how much awesome games it has.

So gaf, why haven't you bought PS Vita yet?

The good question should be, why is it so hard to sell it back.

This is my second vita purchase, well not me personaly, but, first time, my gfriend bought one, play a bit with it. She then change her mind and got a 3DS, a bit under my influence, so a few month later, we bought one back.

And now, one year later, well, we see that there is not much as we like on this system. I have nothing wrong to saw about the horsepower of the system. I think its a 5 time better piece of hardware than the 3DS. But its god awfully supported by developpers, well, for the kind of games we both enjoy.

So now, well, its the second time im selling it, and dont ask me why, i have a hard time selling it at a reasonable price. We kind of invest a bit of money in it, games, 32gb card, system itself. So sometime im asking myself if i should keep it, but keep it for what exactly?

One thing is sure. Its my last Vita purchase. I gave it enough chance. Games i wanted on this system are non existant. Tough it would feel like a protable PS3, but i guess i was wrong thinking that.

Dont want to tank your thread here OP, but if i can answer your question, the reason im not buying it is that because its not a portable PS3. I wanted Gran Turismo, a real God of War, a real Dark Souls ( sorry Soul Sacrifice just aint cutting it ), more Uncharted, A heavy Rain like. No . Nothing for the two years iv been supporting this console. Its time to pull the plug for me.

For all those going on about memory card prices, I think the vita still represents excellent value. You can pick up the biggest card for £50-60 and that one large will be easily sufficient to store all the games. I.e it's a one off cost that should be factored into the purchase price.
Then the game's themselves can be really cheap. I have got a ton of decent games through ps+ (easily justifiable even if you just have a vita). Most of my other games I have bought for around £10 or less in the regular Sony sales, with a lot under £5. I have not looked into 3ds but I have a feeling it would work out more expensive when you factor in game prices?

No games on the system interest me enough to buy it. I loved my PSP, loved the GOW games, Syphon Filter, Metal Gear games, Daxter, GTA stories games, etc.

None of that exists here unfortunately :-/

I went through the list of Vita games and there were literally 5 I wanted, 2 of them ports and another 2 Japan-only.

I have! I've actually purchased seven of them since they came out (scary thought). Not all for myself.

Although five of them were.

I've also purchased five 3DS' in around the same time period. Yikes. (Soon to be at least six with the New models on the way).

Almost every one of those indies can be found much cheaper and/or play better on other platforms though. I love indie games, hell I preordered an Alienware Alpha just to play more of them, but I never find myself playing them on the Vita.

There just aren't enough meaty gaming experiences for someone who doesn't like niche Japanese games.

I have a 3ds, but I hate Pokémon and most 1st party titles.

I have a vita, and love Japanese games but I hate fanservice with a passion.

But there's a brightside to everything and I love both systems dearly. Toukiden, celceta, Miku, indies, classics and psp games have made my backlog burst at the seams and I have something to play on my vita every day.

Once I beat Celceta the hubby gets the vita for SAO and I can enjoy some 3ds quality time with Curtain Call, gunvolt and Radiant Historia. And then later on we switch back for fantasy life and Hearts R.

The 'only Japanese games' argument always bothered me though. How often do handheld libraries in general have a sizeable chunk of high quality of western developed IPs? I'm generalizing but when I think of Western handheld games I either think of smaller indy titles or well, shovelware :-

Play better? I will refute that. Luftrausers, Oli Oli.. I can't imagine them playing better on a PC.

As far as meaty experiences, I guess it depends on what you expect from a console.. I've got a handful of games like Soul Sacrifice where I've easily put in over hundreds of hours. That game defines meaty, and despite being developed in Japan, it can't really be categorized as such.

Sorry man but indies that anyone can play on any random laptop for a third of the price are not much of a selling point...
Why the fuck would I want to pay 15 euros for terraria, I've already played a superior version with more content and 10x better controls a LONG time ago (long enough to almost forget about the game) for 3 euros...

Most people are not going to be interested in visual novels, especially not when they cost 30-40 euros like virtue's last reward

When people think handheld they think hot shots tennis/golf, srpgs, jrpgs, puzzle/rhythm games, arcade games, arcade racers, monster hunter etc.
You've spent too much time in the anime avatar riddled vita threads where the reaction to a floppy phallus shaped object dangling out of a preteen cartoon girl's mouth is 'day one'. that shit is just weird to most people.

$99 for 64GB Via play-asia, considering the storage I think it's OK. It should be half the price, but it's not the end of the world.

They really need to bring the 64GB officially outside of JP so then maybe we would see some sales on it finally. The price for the 32 gb actually becomes pretty decent when stores decide to put it on sale, and I remember my first memory card being a 16gb card which I got for 20$ for Gamestop. Bigger cards are awesome though, my brother recently picked up a 64gb card and handed me down his 32gb card, so now I use both a 32GB card, 16gb card, and the 8gb card that originally came with my system. But I mostly stick to my 32gb since Content Manager usually works pretty well with what I need it to do myself.

Terraria Vita has the same content as the PC version, it even has MORE content as it has some exclusive stuff.

Terraria Vita has easy multiplayer, setting it up for the PC is miserable.

The screen and controls used for it are just perfect, a very intimate experience and it's amazing to have your Terraria world wherever you want.

And smh at your last paragraph..

Yeah, and those purchasing should know what they are buying into if they do get into a Vita. I tend to enjoy many of these games like Danganronpa, yS series, Atelier series and Gravity Rush, and it does have some games outside of that Niche that are purely amazing like Wipeout, Killzone Mercenary (One of the best in the series outside of Killzone 2) and Little Big Planet. I wish they would make a push towards trying to have other games, but myself I know what I bought a Vita for so it doesn't really make a huge difference to me. Just like with my 3DS and Wii U, I know what I went in there for and I could care less myself about lack of 3rd Party Support since I have other ways to play those games anyway. It's sad to know that Sony doesn't try to get much western support for the Vita, but I'm just glad the I've enjoyed the handheld as much as I have so far.

welp...

Wait what? Do you directly connect to your PC to do this? The program works fine and takes about 3 minutes to save and transfer a game. Hardly what I would call an "abomination"

Also redownloading a game uses bandwith.. hardly a good idea

When I backed up around 26gb when I upgraded to a 64gb card, it took well over an hour each way (maybe closer to 2 hrs? Can't remember). Most of my 2-3gb digital titles download blazing fast, at least compared to PS3. For me, yes, it does appear much quicker to just re-download than transfer 2 times. Content manager is another stupid thing that Sony did to this system (along with the MCs, which I've sucked up and spent a small fortune on).

im trying to cut back on gaming and I know if I buy a vita ( again ) i'll only play a lot more.

similar rationale behind avoiding 3ds/wii u too.

smh at the loli shit people dignify in vita threads
smh at you thinking any normal person wants to play creepy visual novels about school kids with a ton of questionable 'fan service' (and then saying 'but some have decent gameplay')
It's like someone saying 'I read penthouse for the articles' ...please
I guess if a brony only hangs out in brony threads and with brony people he also assumes other people think ponies are interesting and cool.

Googled the terraria thing, it seems to have been patched recently to bring it up to par with the content the pc version has had for over a year... (and at a fifth of the price)
When it launched it was an old version with much less content

'intimate experience' is one way to word the fact that you're playing from a zoomed in perspective on a screen that is too small to properly show all the blocks.

Anyhow the main point was the price, buying older indie games that people moved on from a year ago... at a console premium prices... is not a selling point for the vita.

There are only two games on Vita that I'm interested in - Ys: Memories of Celceta, and Tales of Hearts R. Not quite enough for me to dish out the cash for a Vita + Memory Card. I'm not much of a handheld gamer either, nor do I have a PS4 to really take advantage of Remote Play. I'm holding out hope for a Memories of Celceta port to PC, and hey if the next Ys game is coming to PS4+Vita, maybe Celceta will come to PS4 as well. Eh, whatever, maybe I'll get a Vita later down the road for those two games.

Despite having a PS4 and already a few vita games from PS+, I still think it's too expensive when you have to consider the price of the memory cards. I don't want to spend that kind of money on a handheld when I never touch my 3Ds anymore.

The game library does nothing for me, and even just picking one up to get the PS+ games is a no go when I look at the ridiculous memory prices.

How many of these games really exist? Real question, because unless they're all being hidden really well, I don't see em in the store.

Where am I telling anyone to buy 'loli shit'? I don't even own anything that falls underneath that category, and my 64GB memory card is completely filled.

You can zoom the screen in and out by the way, in Terraria.

Holding annual Steam sale prices over the heads of console game releases is just wrong, I paid $15 or more for Terraria when it first came out. There are plenty of weekly PSN sales and PS+ releases to counter that argument. The console premium price argument doesn't really apply anymore.

It isn't even a competition, obviously each platform has its merits.. but to play Terraria and Don't Starve on the go in all their glory is quite amazing to me.

Anime streams from Crunchyroll in HD look stunning on the Vita.

And Netflix too! Shame they don't update the client.

A tiny, insignificant portion of the library.

No doubt that it's the otaku handheld of choice, but to suggest that 'anime games' are anything more than a small slice of what is available is disingenuous.

Thing is, some people can't see the other titles. They literally become blind to ports and indies. Great games like Hotline Miami, Spelunky, and Rogue Legacy get reduced to nothing more than 'old indies I bought on Steam for 25p'. That inspires a lack of perspective that gives rise to shit like 'Vita has no games', even though there is a thread on here compiling nearly 200 upcoming titles.

Money. Shortage. I'll probably buy it, then 2 weeks later all the games I wanted for it will be ported to PS3/PS4.

I've been on the fence for quite a while now. I'm just not really sure what games I am going to absolutely enjoy to be sure it is worth the investment. I'm mostly an RPG person.

I think you're underselling the Otaku games market a bit smokey. It's a significant portion of the retail releases in Japan and a giant chunk of what gets localized here.
