Why is all gaming humour terrible?

I know that dude! He's cool. Did standup on a nerd-comedy show I was hosting. Great guy.

Definitely not all.
It's just the kind of humour that's popular on internet these days that is, but you can still find good jokes even on these very pages.

Also, part of what makes the example in the OP not funny is knowing roller coaster tycoon doesn't really work like that and knowing that's the kind of post that gets stolen from reddit and becomes popular to the point of polluting your Facebook feed....Months after you first saw it.
Part of the problem is, being a gaffer you are exposed to those jokes long before they become popular meme, at which point you are beyond tired of them.

Also, best videogames related comic ever:

Masterpiece

i liked this one.

Video game humor in general tends to be really self-referential and in-jokey. Some stuff can fly over your head if you aren't familiar with a game or its community.

I was gonna type up a post about how part of the problem is some jokes just get waaayyyy overused (arrow to knee, cake, mushrooms = drugs cuz lulz, DARK/DEMON SOULS IS SOOO HARD, etc.) to the point they're no longer funny, and I gotta agree with this.

Stuff like Awkward Zombie or Brawl in the Family did a good job of keeping jokes/its humor fresh or gave it a new twist to make it funny again.

I'd say Dorkly is starting to get funny as well. I didn't much care for their earlier videos with sprites talking, but their comics are much better in quality for the most part.

Because while humour in games used to be ok/good (Lucas Arts time), it is now mostly forced and so bad ... (see Sunset Overdrive for reference and Portal for how to do it well)

Oh, I thought this was about humor in games which is more often than not godawful (Guacamelee, Super Time Force, I am looking at you).

Jokes/etc. about games are awful too, yes.

We're veering OT, but throw Sunset Overdrive on that list. The dialogue is aggressively unfunny.

One of the funniest things I've ever experienced. Books, movies, tv shows, it stands with all other media. Pure genius.
Quoting for emphasis.

Also, Penny Arcade can be hilarious at times. But, as this thread has shown, "gamer" culture breeds a lot of bad things.

These are too good to be random.

Edit: Well, nevermind, I guess they are random, as each image has its own code.

the problem is nerds. nerds, mostly, are painfully unfunny. gaming attracts nerds.

you see this shit all over reddit with the endless pun comments, meme exchanges, non-sequitur quotes that receive 800 upvotes. the worst

Every time I see one of these topics, I always expect to see that GirlzNGames comic strip. GAF, you never disappoint.

And to ask the Topic's question, yeah, Gaming humor is terrible as it is normally made on the pressumption only enlightened gamers will be able to understand it. Oh... Your favorite game is Wii Sporta? GET OUTTA HERE YOU CASUAL SCUM.

I do find Game parodies to be quite enjoyable, if that counts as gaming humor.
