Why is Excitetruck so DAMN AWESOME?

I've been trying to get everything completed on this game after unlocking all the modes etc a while back.

I got S rank in all modes and tracks, and all of the trial levels. Still got a few paint jobs to get but I think all that is left are to get green times for all tracks and green for each stunt.

Has anyone managed to get a green time for the Diamond Cup level? If so, how? I can't even get anything above a red time.

green times? what the heck?

Sorry, I should have been clearer, I'm talking about the "Best Times" list on the "Records" menu.

It seems to be the same for the "Best Stunts" list, once your time or stunt reaches some sort of barrier it becomes green, At least that's how it seems to me.

For example, just this evening my best drift was 400M which classed as red, I upped it to 440M and now it's green. I figured there was so much to unlock in this game that there might be something else there to unlock.

Okami's really good. I'd have bought Excite Truck over Genji, but hey, I'm sure you'll pick it up sooner or later. EXCITE TRUCK will wait for you, my friend.

Got EXCITE TRUCK yesterday, played it for a couple of hours and I must say I really like it! The sensation of speed is... EXCITING!

I also really like the option for custom soundtrack; been using that from the start so I wouldn't know what the in-game music is like :) What do you people put on as music to add to the EXCITE factor?

The color (green/red) shows if the record is done on "Excite" (green) or "Super Excite" (red).

I think this is my favorite Wii game now. I'm trying EVER SO HARD to get the final S ranking on Super Excite. The best part is I don't get frustrated when I miss out by like, a few points. Over and over again. Right round like a record, baby, right round round round. Because it's too much bloody exciting fun!

Ah I missed that post, thanks for repeating! Some nice tunes there... I mostly put on dance music (Praga Khan "Power of the Flower" + Roni Size "Forget me Knots"), but AC/DC & Motorhead are fine choices too.

Try Gipsy Kings with "Bamboleo" on the Mexico track!

Ahh, it was throwing me off since I re-did most tracks on the regular Excite mode to get better times and stars etc. Thanks :)

I must say this game is one of the best pick up and play launch Wii games. I've been playing this for a couple of months off and on...never gets boring. Great sensation of speed and height, and perfect challenge...never feel like the ai is cheating.

The only points it would get knock for is the presentation (very average) and 2 player multi (no ai components? c'mon).

I'm almost finished the mirro Gold cup w/ all S's.

I must say the best Cup is the Gold Cup with the outstanding tracks being Scotland & Canada. Scotland is just ridiculous with its series of small and high hills. Plus, its the perfect length.

The best Trucks that helps me get the S's on all Cups:

Dominator, Razor, Dynamo & Mako

Dominator - for its combination of speed, damage-inducing ability, and agility.

Razor - This is Dominator times 2, but it lacks the agility.

Dynamo - Has excellent agility, but lacks top speed.

Mako - Has great everything, except it gets beat up by the bigger trucks, and it's not as tight control-wise.

Is anyone comparing laptimes and stuff. i can see stunts and what not, but is there a thread for this aspect?
I got some good times which i think are top notch but i expect GAF will have beaten them.
I use the Raven a lot and the one before it (Biggest Air)

Hey guys,

I'm the one who doesn't really "get" the Wii. Zelda is fun, though I wish I had the Gamecube version instead. Wii Sports is interesting when you have non-gaming friends over, but I don't play it otherwise. Elebits got boring after a few levels. I couldn't draw the frickin' star in Truama Center. And Sonic was just horrendous from any vantage.

I really didn't think the Wii had most potentially. Sure, I love the NDS after thinking it was worthless at first, but that's a portable system. I had little faith that Nintendo would be able to replicate the success of the NDS, at least in terms of fun.

And then I got Excite Truck.

This is the reason to own a Wii. The controls are not only top-notch, but could not be replicated on another console. It felt stupid and imprecise at first. I couldn't make difficult turns. It was frustrating. And then it clicked. My wheels have to be ON THE GROUND for it to register. And now? I can't stop playing. There is nothing as, forgive me, exciting on other consoles. Not since Burnout: Takedown have I whooped and hollered so much in a video game. I just flew 1800 feet yesterday. My forehead dripped from concentration as the whole room went silent. When I landed perfectly, boosted into another can and flew up another hill, I laughed with glee.

I'm 25, have been gaming for 21 years, and finally remember why I started to game in the first place. This game is pure gaming joy. This is it. It never gets boring or annoying or too hard or anything. It's just non-stop fun and I thank Nintendo for making it.

I still have certain doubts about the Wii, but after hearing Shigs talk last week and seeing my girlfriend (who doesn't normally play games) giggle with glee in ET, I think there may be something to this system.

I've had the game for what, 3 weeks now? And I can't put it down. I echoe the poster above: Excite Truck reminds me better than any other game why I love this hobby. EXCITE!

I am confused. I have the SD card working and I love it, but I find that I can't pick an album or a song, it just plays randomly.

And often, once the race is finished it'll go back to the game music.

Is there some menu option I am missing? What am I doing wrong?

main menu sound options, check that.

Also when a race is loading there should be a music option where you can pick a specific song.

Right before each race you can select your song, or hell even in the midst of a race. Just puase, and go to SD card.

If you liked excite truck for the controls, I think you'll enjoy ssx blur as well.

Don't listen to all the crappy reviews, the controls for ssx blur are great once u get use to them and pulling off the ubers isn't difficult at all.

Carving the snow with the nunchuck is fantastic.

I don't have excite truck, but I do plan on picking it up. So far out of all the games I have (wario ware, zelda tp, wii sports), ssx blur is my favorite wii game. I've been playing it 3-4 hours each night since it was released. Its a ton of fun and has a ton of depth.

I've not posted in this thread yet, despite having had a rental copy of Excite Truck for the past three weeks that is just going back to Blockbuster now (No Late Fees in Canada FTW).

Excite Truck is an amazing piece of arcade gameplay that I couldn't put down. It represents solid design, smooth graphics, fantastic speed and in general just a very fun experience. It's nothing fancy, of course, but it doesn't need to be; once I put some tracks on my SD card the entire game became just that much more enjoyable.

Got all S-Ranks through Excite/Super Excite/Mirror, and in general had a darn good time on it. Would purchase for cheap in the future.

Currently renting this game.

Like all the the other Wii games I've played, I'm not in love with it. I've found nothing that says to me that these controls couldn't be done better and more accurately on a traditional controller.

I think I made a mistake, and should have gotten a 360 instead :(

The controls could also be done by stabbing yourself in your left or right eye to go left or right. Try to have fun.

heh

To me it's not fun having a crontroller that is non responsive. I certainly can't be alone in my opinions.

Yes I'm playing it right. It just seems overly awkward.
'Awkward' in this case would be pretending you've ever said a positive word about Nintendo, and going along with your remarks. I guess it's all right for balance's sake, can't remember a single negative feedback from this thread previously.

Oh please. I've flip-flopped over nintendo more than anyone. I think my pre-Wii posts show that.

I'll just stop with wii threads all together. It seems negativity towards the Wii is not allowed at GAF.

Sorry for the brief derail. Carry on.:)

Well, you sort of came into an Excitetruck thread to troll the Wii. You'd get the same response in a PS3 or 360 thread. It's not so much that people don't care about your trouble, but your posts aren't really constructive or useful. Try walking into the Lair thread and mention that you think the game won't be fun because the sixaxis is crap and see what kind of response you get.

EXCITE TRUCK RULES

I have played it for about a week though :( Devil May Cry 3 is just too awesome lol. Cant wait to get back into EXCITE MODE

As for custom soundtracks, I just leave the game sfx on and mute the music in the options menu, then I chuck on some of my sweeeet 80's pop/funk LPs

You're not alone, some of the S-ranks in Super Excite are ass-kicking tough.

Let me clarify, I'm getting my ass handed to me trying to get B-ranks in Super Excite :(

The first track in the gold cup is bending me over. I'm only 3 points short! HAVE SOME MERCY!

I just got it on the weekend and had the same problem, but I think I've figured it out now.

First, change the music to SD/random from the screen that comes up BEFORE a race. Doing so should make it play your songs randomly during the Excite modes and the Challenge mode for ALL tracks. The training mode will still have the default game music. Don't change this. It seems to mess it up and resets the Excite mode back to default game music.

Now, check under the options, the sound option should have saved and be listed as "all random". Once that's done, you can assign songs to each track if you'd like either on the screen before the race or during the race itself and it should save the song you've picked. Any tracks that you haven't assigned anything to should still play a random song off your SD card.

There's no way to play an entire album, unless that's all you have on your card and you can't change the menu/stats screens music. All you can do is all random play or assign a song per track. This may not be the correct method, but it's what I did to finally get it working. I even reset it and tried again to make sure it works, and it does.

Any track that lasts longer than the song should either loop the same song if you've assigned it to that track, or go to the next random song if you're using random. Hope that helps.

oh sweet jesus just unlocked diamond cup. that track is nuts.

question: is there anything worth getting for getting S on all super excite races? there are a couple of trucks i have yet to unlock (last one i got was the mongoose)... anything else to unlock?

An ASSLOAD of even more exciting trucks have yet to be unlocked. And by that, I mean you're at the halfway point!
Nevermind the fact that Mirror mode is still to come!

If you unlock all trucks with their alternate paint jobs, you unlock
the Monster Truck
.

Let's kick it up a notch on the tree runs.

Used moku to get it.

Is there a specific truck you guys find is the best to use in Super Excite?

I've been sticking with the same one I used for the normal mode, but I'm getting slaughtered in Super Excite, so I think it's time for a change.

For me Excite Truck is one of the few games on Wii that seem to be developed perfectly for the wiimote. So many other games seem rushed or buggy and unresponsive, for me this game is probably one of the best examples of how easy and intuitive the wiimote can be.

Oh, just wait for the Platinum Cup-that's sweet. So it's all worth it in the end.

Depends on the course. I had some success with the Kodiac-I like the speed and turbo on this.

And it was done at a "for-rent" dev studio, not first party.. Kewl huh?

I find if i am getting nowhere with a track it is time to switch cars.

POWs really help if you are trying to win the race though.

Short courses with 2 laps i find it is better to win the race and do at least a 360 spin on every jump. but concentrating on being first.

For long courses it is sometimes better to hang back and take your time, getting every terrain morf and getting lots of air and rings.

Oh and some tracks there are nice corners to get some multiple super truck smashes if you are in with the pack.

I had to remember to not avoid trucks when in the pack and to turbo into someone who is just in front....

The devs just reached a perfect balance in terms of competing for the first place, exploiting short cuts, making figures, smashing other cars, getting power ups, using any hill or appendice on the field... The challenge is fantastic and constantly renewed with each unlocked car. Quite an amazing package and -it won't be stressed enough- a must have game for any wii owner.

At the beginning of EVERY race, hit accelerate and turbo and steer left straight away and you ALWAYS hit the last place truck, 5 stars immediately and it doesn't slow you down at all.

Also whats Nebula- Crystal Road?

It's the Platinum's Cup course. Unlock Super Excite and get at least B-rank in all the cups to unlock the Platinum Cup

Thanks for the tip, I thought S Ranks were needed to unlock it, this will save me a lot of time :)
