Why is gaf asking me to change my password?

Quoting in case someone can help:
Okay, WTF.

I tried logging in via a different browser with the new GAF-generated password and it's telling me my password is incorrect.

I am screwed if my cookies somehow get wiped from the first browser this point, as I have no way to contact anyone on GAF.

Thinking over it again I think I may have tried changing my password after I initially logged in with the new gaf pw, but it failed so I didn't keep the new password I tried creating. Not certain; the process of changing passwords seems a bit flaky currently.

I need to use a new email, my university email bit the dust 3 years ago. What good paid emails work?

How good is FastMail?
I have the same question because I no longer work at a company that provides email addresses and I decided my webhosting wasn't worth it.

I'm playing with fire if gaf needs to send an email confirmation about something. We can't use Facebook addresses, right?

I shot bish a PM, I'll let you know what he says.

Password reset is not working for me. I tried putting in a new password, logging out, then logging in with new password. Wouldn't validate, but it took my old password.

"Your password is 3419 days old, and has therefore expired." - so close to 10 years!

Also chiming in for allowing gmail. The only thing I have besides work is through my ISP and I just checked that today for the first time in about three years.

3400 some days old here, IIRC.

Nobody uses ISP or self-hosted email addresses anymore. Almost everyone I know uses gmail for personal email.

No email conformation for password change - but if you can't remember your password etc. and you can't access the old email account, then you're screwed.

This is the postition I am in. I can't remember my old password, and the email account I used to join GAF no longer exists, so am I really screwed?

Is a @mac.com or @me.com email address acceptable to register with? Or is that considered an iCloud email address? It's from the days when .Mac and MobileMe were paid services, and I don't believe new iCloud users have the ability to use the legacy domains.

my password was like 2500 days old :P. Makes me reflect on how long I've been here. Goodness. I don't know if it is time well spent. :P

Update: login is successfully working now. Turns out even though it said the new password I wanted to change to failed in reality it must have gone through.

So to anyone using a random password generator and thinking of updating your GAF password: keep a copy of the randomly generated password or else you won't be able to log in.

Turns out I did have a copy of the random password, I pressed undo a few times in my scratchpad note file and there it was. Tried it today and it worked.

Thanks to Expendable, Gromph and Cyan for getting me out of GAF purgatory.

When the message first popped up, I changed the password and left the old email address (that I no longer have access to) as the default, so it sent the password confirmation email to that address and I couldn't access it.

I will say that it would be helpful if the administrator email address that it eventually prompts you with as an option was still active, because there is literally no way to contact mods to inform them that you've been locked out. Our good friend Expendable had to contact them for me to tell them that I had inadvertently fucked up my choice of email (by not changing it) and locked myself out of my account.

Working now. I changed mine, then it wouldn't take the new one, but it WOULD take the old one, then it told me to change it again.

So odd.

I've tried logging out and logging back in, and I'm still getting a prompt to change my password every so often.

Is there any way to get rid of it without actually changing my password? I don't want to change it again.
