Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
Capcom

after playing MM:MHX, Devil May Cry 3 SE, RE4, BoFV(yeah I know it's old just got through it the other day)

and anticipating
MM:ZX
Ultimate GnG
Megaman Power Up
Onimusha 4(waiting for the inevitable price drop :P)
Devil May Cry 4
RE5
Okami

I say they are pretty much invincible right now.

edit: Pheonix Wright!!!!!!!! forgot about it.

How are their sales? Just curious. I just get the feeling that regarding sales, Capcom is definitely one of the most under-appreciated companies out there.

For a while, Capcom was going through a few rocky titles, but lately they've been kicking ass and taking names. Don't forget to add Okami to your upcoming list, and Phoenix Wright to you "must own" list. ;)

WOAH you are missing a bunch in there. real quick some obvious ones: Phoenix Wright, and these damn street fighter discs! i know it was a while ago but anniversary collection was a real nice way to deliver third strike and now we have the alpha pack coming and of course sfZero on psp with a dpad fix provided by them.

Intelligent Systems

From the last 5 years or so:

Paper Mario
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Advance Wars
Advance Wars: Black Hole Rising
Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Even though they're only three series, they've been all very good RPGs and strategy games. Not a bad game in the bunch.

yeah I know I'm missing alot those were just on top of my head and look at my edit I put Pheonix Wright :P

Ubisoft

Cause they fucking rock.

I have never bought a Ubisoft game. The only game I plan to buy is Beyond Good and Evil and it will be off eBay so they (Ubisoft) doesn't get my money.

MONOLITH AND SEGA for making survival horror scary again.

I'm with you there. I thank Ubi for bringing us Ape Escape 2, BG&E, and taking a risk with Drakengard 2, but they are second only to EA for things that, in my opinion, are very negative to the art of videogames.

Art of vierogames? Talk about taking things too seriously. They're GAMES, and as far as 3rd parties go, Ubi is one of the best for consistent quality and quantity of titles.

Team Ninja

For Ninja Gaiden, hardest core yet fair action game of all time.

For being a Japanese company that listens to the fans the world over instead of blindly marching forward in a rut.

For having a nuclear-armed gangster hentai lord as their supreme leader / game reviewer playa hatah.

blizzard for battle.net. despite all the terrible 'bnet kiddie' stereotypes (all of which are true of any large online community), it is still one of the best matchmaking setups available anywhere. and it's been free for ten years to boot.

Konami

Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal GEar Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 4
Snatcher
Ninja Turtles side-scrollers
Suikoden
Symphony of the Night
The Contra series
Gradius V
Silent Hill 1
Silent Hill 2

For this gen, I'll add-
Konami- Silent Hill 2/3, MGS2/3/Acid, Zone of the Enders 2, Contra SS, Castlevania GBA/DS

Namco- Ace Combat 4/5, Tekken 5, Soul Calibur 2/3, Ridge Racer psp, Katamari 1/2

Sega- Virtua Fighter 4, Shinobi, Rez, F-Zero GX, Super Monkey Ball, JSRF

Treasure- Astro Boy, Ikaruga, Gradius V, Guardian Heroes Advance, Gunstar Advance, Bleach DS

Nintendo- Mario Tennis GC, Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, Fire Emblem games, Advance War games, Smash Bros Melee, Pikmin 2, Paper Mario, Metroid ZM

For Capcom I'd add Project Justice, Powerstone, Minish Cap, Code Veronica (well, Sega, I guess), the VS series...

Blizzard

Because they take their fucking time to release a masterpiece after a masterpiece. No publisher's pression, no ship-or-die, no deadlines - just ship whenever you feel it's ready.

Through The Looking Glass

THIEF & THIEF 2

The Black Isle

For the best RPG series PC gamers ever witnessed.

Square

FINAL FANTASY

Nintendo

Timeless characters and timeless gameplay: MARIO MARIO, PRINCESS ZELDA, SAMUS ARAN

Enix

DRAGON WARRIOR

Konami:
MGS, SH, CV, WE, Suikoden etc.
Diverse and awesome games. Not consistent quality, but when its good its great.

Capcom:
DMC, RE, Onimusha etc.
Just three franchises I really rate high, their output this gen (particularly PS2) has been great overall.

Sony:
GT, HSG, Wipeout, SOTC, SOCOM etc.
Publishes some crap but publishes IMO the most AAA games of anyone. Oh, and outside games I like them pushing out great hardware.

Square:
Final Fantasy

For me that would be Naughty Dog. I have so much respect for these guys because they're the only ones who've truly payed attention to how videogame characters act and move in their games. no weird sliding when turning 360 degerees, no awkward poping animations, just pure sweet smoothness at 60fps.

And people take sports far more seriously than some of us take games. Chalk it up to our passion for the hobby. Just because you don't share our enthusiasm doesn't make our passion any more trivial.

So yea...you suck.

Closed minded I think. Videogames, just as the movies did, have the potential to be something greater than mere entertainment. Whether they're still called "games" at that point is up for debate.

Ubi- because of GR2, GRAW, and Splinter Cell
ID/Gray Matter/Raven- Return to Castle Wolfenstein- say no more! :)
Bizarre- PGR2/3
Team Ninja- Ninja Gaiden
Bungie- Myth and Halo
Valve- Half Life/HL2
Epic- Unreal Tournament
Planet Moon- for giving one of my favorite games of all time- Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Climax- MotoGP series (PC)
Codemasters- Operation Flashpoint and TOCA2

I'm a relative console noob, so this is my first full console cycle. Lots of games and developers yet to discover. :D

I'm glad someone agrees with me (or at least has a similar impression of the potential of games). Many games today do little more than perform a service, but there are a few games that transcend that core service, and provide and experience that they need not provide for the game to remain "fun." Such games go beyond the call of duty, and deliver a certain art-like quality that is welcome, and downright awe inspiring.

Way to be condescending. I agree with Sega, as do many others do about the art of videogames. Don't agree with us...that's your opinion.

Looks like C and Trin agree also agree :D

Damn right I do.

I want to add SNK to the mix of "damn awesome game companies." The company has had a rocky start after being reinstated under the SNK Playmore label, but things seem to be picking up with titles like KOF Neowave, NG battle Colosseum, and the upcoming Metal Slug 6.

Most of my SNK loves are totally old school, though:

Samurai Shodown 2
Mutation Nation
KoF 98
Metal Slug 3 and 5
Last Blade
Sengoku 2001

Nintendo

Because no matter how much they piss us off we still love them :)

QFT. Just about everything they put out can be bought without question and enjoyed, although I didn't really care for AW2. IIRC, they also lend a helping hand to games like Wario Ware Twisted, etc.

Nintendo for several reasons.
Capcom: they make great games :)
Ubisoft: This generation they began making great games as well. (PoP series, BG&E, Splinter Cell)

Amusement Vision- One of the few internal Sega developers that seem to still have that magic touch.

Square- FF

Capcom- RE4, Viewtiful Joe and Onimusha.

-Intelligent Systems- Paper Mario 2, FE: PoR. This gen's best Nintendo internal developer.

-EAD- Zelda: TP and Super Mario Bros. 5 (yes, you heard me. I'm not gonna use that stupid name that it's currently called)

-Konami- MG, SH. Like Capcom, they seem pretty sloppy, but when they do right, they do it damn well.

How about Atlus?

even if oyu dont like the games that they bring over, they are defintely making the effort to provide (a) what manny people obviously want and were not really getting (b) expand what is available in the NA market.

Until they went under, I loved and worshipped Working Designs. Sometimes when I sleep, I wake up in a cold sweat, yelling "VIIIIIIIIIIC!!!!"

Konami am awesome because they make two of my absolute favorite franchises which are Silent Hill and Metal Gear (Solid). And they haven't whored them out either to moviemakers like Uwe Boll & Anderson.

Sony am awesome because they have teams all over the world with imagination and hardcore skills.
They create a wide variety of games and all of them with passion. If you're a part of SCEWWS you get fuckin respect. ;)

Blizzard because they simply make games that play like no ones business and stand the test of time with kick ass mythology.

Nintendo devs are awesome because the make highly polished games. And their deeper efforts are of world class.

Capcom, there's seriously no competition to what they did this gen. Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7, Phoenix Wright, RE4 and Okami.

Nintendo (including IS and Camelot) 2nd and Sony 3rd for JAK, Ratchet, ICO, SotC and GoW... well, and SingStar ;-)

Treasure

The kings of 2d game entertainment, and seemingly always support a dying system the strongest just to show its power potential.

Mega Drive era :

-Gunstar Heroes
-Dynamite Headdy
-Alien Soldier

(all available now on Treasure Box, buy it now, THEY DAMN WELL DESERVE YOUR MONEY)

Saturn era :

-Guardian Heroes
-Silhouette Mirage
-Radiant Silvergun

(Treasure Box 2 plz, since it makes sense!)

N64 era :

-Mischief Makers
-Sin & Punishment
-Bangai-O

(only makes sense to be a part of Revolutions Virtual Console)

Dreamcast era :

-Bangai-O
-Ikaruga

GBA era :

- Astroboy: Omega Factor
- Advance Guardian Heroes
- Gunstar Super Heroes

And of course their latest effort Bleach DS, which I have to obtain shortly. I want to see a new fantastic 2d platformer from treasure next, carrying on the cutesy wacky tradition of Dynamite Headdy, Silhouette Mirage and Mischief Makers.

They deserve respect because theyre such a small games making team who opted out of making countless Konami sequels to be underdogs for the rest of their days. They inject pure love into their games, and really deserve all the financial support possible from any gamer who cares about the survival of 2d games.

You're inclusion of Pokemon pinball and Snap (of all games!) not to mention the GB Camera?? Completely denies you the ownage you could otherwise have had.

Now now.. Pokemon Pinball is fairly fun (although it -was- stretching it, I must admit), but Snap is a uniquely decent game. The GB Camera is just plain nifty.

You will note that I didn't list -all- Nintendo made/published games.

(Actually, given that you were banned, I suppose you won't note that.)
