Why is it impossible to find Guitar Hero III?

I know the game is popular and it is Christmas shopping time, but it is ridiculously hard to find this game for either the 360 or the PS3.

Is Activision pulling a Nintendo and hoarding stock? I never would have though this game would have been this hard to find.

(In Canada by the way, I have no clue how available it is in the U.S.)

That's your answer, dude. When Guitar Hero 2 came out on the PS2 last fall, I bought the game despite wanting to wait because I knew if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to find it until after Christmas.

I saw it when it first came out and passed on it because I figured I would let my wife get it for me for Christmas (I had already bought every other big game this fall I had to leave something to look forward to). But I've been around to plenty of stores just looking and have talked to several people having the same issues. I mean this isn't a Wii here, it's a freakin game.

I mean it's not the end of the world but I can't really play Guitar Hero II on hard due to an arm injury I suffered two years ago (my hand goes numb after long play sessions, nerve damage etc...) and I want more Guitar fun times. I need some more.....

I couldn't find it for PS3 anywhere. At a Best Buy and Futureshop nearest me they both had stacks of the 360 bundle (seriously, like 40+ in each store) but not one single bundle of the PS2, Wii or PS3 available. Granted, both stores are close to each other so it's not surprising to see them both stocked more or less the same. Still irritating. It's pretty impressive to see those big black aisle stands they have for the game being completely empty though, they must have moved a ton of that on Wii and PS2 at least.

I'd tell you to look online for the 360 sku but Futureshop at least doesn't have it in stock online. All the stores in town here have it though, probably not much help to you.

I had the same problem. Stores for some reason stocked Wii, PS2, and 360 versions. No PS3 versions at all. This was a few weeks ago. I bet most copies of each console are OoS by now.

All the Rock Band owners are buying it to replace their broken Strats.

About three weeks ago, I found mountains of bundles for Wii and PS2, lots for PC, none for PS3, and only one for 360 in several hours of searching a densely developed area. (South Bay area of Los Angeles)

My local Target had 6 for the PS3 today and 6 for the 360... All the 360 sold out in about 10min and the PS3 were all just sitting there.

Then I went to my local BB and they had 12 copies of GH3 for the PS3 on the shelf, and none for the 360...

Damn this shit...

Calder are you seeing the bundle with the new guitar or the one from Guitar Hero II? I'm in Calgary as well and live in the NW. If you can let me know what locations you were at I can pass that info onto my wife. I'm no interested in getting another of the same guitar though, that's the issue. I can't find the bundle with the wireless guitar.

I got this for my bro for the PS3 like in November and they had a TON in Toys R Us - now it became hard too find? lucky total.

I had to hunt for the Wii version for a gift for my niece. I got lucky and got to a gamestop as they got a shipment in.

The 360 and Wii versions have been hard to get around here. For the PS3 version, WalMart here has had a half dozen copies now for the last week. It seems like the only reason they haven't sold are the boxes are beat up a bit. The PC version is even easier to find around here as Best Buy and Costco have had a few copies onhand.

I had been looking for the Wii version for a gift and got it at Best Buy this morning (as it was in their ad). They had about 20 of them and when I was there someone else was picking one up as well. I'm sure they all sold today.

This also happened with Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2. The manufacturing process for creating the peripherals is obviously a slower and more complicated process than just making a dvd and a case.

Really? PS3 version is probably the easiest to find around here (Los Angeles area) closely followed by the PS2 and PC version. Wii version seems to be the hardest to find (only saw it once when I was picking up Mario Galaxy at Toys R Us) and 360 was pretty scarce too but I was lucky enough to find the Burbank Target had about 10 in stock Saturday morning!

The Atwater Best Buy had a freakin' Jenga tower of GH3 for PS2 and PS3 each.

Yeah for sure. I was just hoping that knowing the popularity of the game that there would be much more in the retail channel. I mean I've found Wii's for people this Christmas but I can't find Guitar Hero III for myself.

True am cry.

While this doesn't help you at all, there are hundreds of copies of GHIII on all formats here in the UK.

Literally piles of them in every HMV and Game I go in..

Wait three days and get Rock Band. It's better.

Every single GH thread is trolled by what looks like Harmonix DF advertising the game. "Don't buy GH, it sux!11, buy RB!"

Surely if he would've wanted RB, he wouldn't have made a thread about GH....?

Unbelievable I know!

No one is hoarding stock, not even Nintendo. Why would they deny themselves further profit? It makes no sense. No one is doing this.

Just wanted to make sure he knew his options before he purchases the inferior product.

Funny thing is, even if you have RB for 360 (like me), you still want to buy GH III so you can have a kickass guitar for RB.

Am I the only one that actually likes the RB guitar better? Granted I've only played them at Best Buy but I just think that the Rock Band controller is a better fit ,,,

I think the RB controller is fantastic, but my strum bar wore out very fast and the tilt sensor never worked correctly.

Retailers are also boycotting Activision for their shitty behaviour re: controller compatibility.

Yep, I think signs are pointing to this, at least that's what the evidence supports. Had not trouble finding GH2 at around the same timeframe.

:lol at the people who said that boycotts would amount to nothing, not affect Activision's bottom line, and that nobody cared "what GAF thinks." Read em and weep I guess.

The biggest problem is that the game is doing much better than Activision expected. GH2 finished December with about 1.3 million in sales. GH3 is already at 3.3 million. The other biggest problem (tie) is producing enough guitars to ship the game.

Same here. I'm waiting for the Rock band Wii guitar to come out, the problem should be fix by then.

I've managed to buy it for 360, PS3 and Wii in the past month without much problem, and I'm in southern Ontario. Tons of PC versions available too.

I got the seemingly last copy of 360 GH3 in my area not too long ago.

I also own RB for the record, but I needed more crazy guitar action.

You really believe that?

As if it wouldn't sell anyway.

I'm sure it would.

However, there are obviously plenty of people that are picking up Rockband (or attempting to) in lieu of GHIII.
