Why is no one complaining about MS being "anti-consumer"?

Sony has been getting a lot of flack from gamers and even the gaming media (for their exclusivity/timed exclusivity deals), now Microsoft comes out and swallows a company whole (and threatens to swallow even more) and no one even bats an eye?... how is that for hypocrisy?

Because of Sony's cockroach moves to secure 3rd party exclusives? They deprived PC gamers like me of playing FF7Remake? Then they stole Deathloop from MS. The warzone has been well set in advance for Microsoft to do this.

Well many claim that Microsoft/Xbox have no games/no exclusives because they publish games on multiple platforms. So perhaps it's not anti-consumer when they are publishing content in multiple venues. Or maybe it is anti-consumer. But it's hard to argue it's both. So which is it?

There is a difference between moneyhatting exclusives away from competitors than buying up studios. I actually encourage the buying of studios.

EDIT: What I mean is that buying up of studios is good as a means of getting exclusive content. It usually means that said companies can take more risks.

Sony paying money for third party exclusives/timed exclusivity is different than directly purchasing a developer or developers and making them in house.
Exactly. At least other consoles get those games after a period of time. Sony and Nintendo aren't getting Bethesda, Ninja Theory, Double Fine, etc games after the obligated ones. Microsoft spent 20 years failing to make their own studios and games that could convice people to join Xbox over the others so now they said screw it we'll just buy up all the games people enjoy on other platforms and force them to be on our platform

I should make myself more clear. I am not opposed to what MS did at the end of the day they paid to bring some studios in house and honestly I am fine with that.

How are you gonna call this hypocritical lmao. No one called Sony anti-consumer when they bought insomniac and no one calls Microsoft anti-consumer when they buy Bethesda. They are literally being treated the same lol.

Sony was well on their way to 3 zenimax timed exclusives. All Microsoft did was stop them for good. Maybe Sony will get the message don't money hat your competitor to the point of no return.

lol hearing at least MS this, MS that pleease wake up ppl if you feel this companies care about you let me laught a little bit.

Buying all the franchise is always a great idea, ask EA. Sony put full trust in studio identity by not taking control over them.

They're both anti consumer practice. But I prefer Sony way.

Anti-costumer to who exactly? Xbox wouldn't care about Playstation and Nintendo users, same way Sony and Nintendo wouldn't care about Xbox users. All them mostly only going to care about their own customers.

I find timed exclusives to be disgusting. EGS is a huge proponent of this business practice and they can fuck off a cliff. If EGS wanted to purchase said studios and have those games on EGS that is different but keeping things locked tight for a number of months is gross.

Honestky I'd agree with you if they didn't release their stuff on PC/Steam as well.

At least microsoft is investing in the studios and not paying them money to keep their games from other platforms
for eternity

Rice (..)
Quantum Broken (...)
Tom Braider (12 months)
Cuckhead (12 months)
Dori and the Wiff of 343
.. among others.

edit:
MS/XB saved Titan Fall from being cancelled by funding it when EA was going to cancel the game.
That is nothing like what Sony did with Street Fighter a game that was always available on every console ever, paid to keep off of other consoles permanently.
Cup Head is again another game Xbox funded.
Ori is an XB 1st party game fully funded and IP owned by MS/XB.
Quantum Break again is another 1st party game developed by a 3rd party dev.

The only one that fits your agenda was Tomb Raider a game that would have happened without MS's involvement.

Ok .. here we go

Morrowing, Shemue 2, Ninja Gaiden, GTA4 dlc, PanzerDragon, Phantasy Star Online, Sega GT, Black Stone Magic & Steel, Riddick, Crazy Taxi 3, Dino Crisis 3, Doom 3 and so forth..

Sony's exclusive deals are the worst, people who play on other platform literally get less content by paying the same price. MS is at least trying to create an ecosystem across platform so everyone can enjoy the game no matter which device you are on. i am almost certain they will try to bring Gamepass on playstation and Nintendo as well in coming years, but they won't allow which is a different story.

But at the end, MS wants to be the software platform where you can play any game.

And they deserved the flack they got for those games. The ruckus over Tomb Raider in particular was huge and well deserved.

Buying up an actual studio that you intend to cultivate, though? Nah, that's not anti-consumer.

Yup that was shit move but still better than what Sony does. As a playstation user, at least they are not asking me to pay for the game now and get the content later or NEVER in many cases. I can wait 6-12 and pay, but expect the full product.

Buying studios and offering free patches and your first party games for free across pc/xbox via game pass

vs

paid remasters or HD patches

I support the buying of studios and publishing houses.

I'm not bothered by the moneyhatted timed exclusives because I just don't care.

Gamepass is not free. It is a subscription service. I always own both consoles each gen. I don't have money to invest monthly in Gamepass.... if it includes more great 1st party titles more often, that will definitely change.

Tales of Vesperia,Tomb Raider,Titanfall etc... was exclusived to xbox.

But we know both companies are guilty of that.

How is buying a company being anti consumer ? The only reason sony has any studios is because they bought them. It's not like they created these studios. Acquisitions are apart if business.

There are multiple ways to play Xbox games, right now, without even owning an Xbox. Microsoft may have bought exclusive titles but they aren't hoarding them to their own, expensive consoles. Now show me all the places I can go play Spider-Man.

Hell. I would love to play Resident Evil 8 in VR on my PC with my Oculus. But just that feature alone is exclusive to Playstation even though the game is available on PC. I hate that Sony did that.

Because Microsoft's goal is to allow you to play games on any device with xcloud and add value to gamepass.

Sony's goal is to force people who don't want a PS5, to buy a PS5. Buying timed exclusives doesn't benefit anyone, not even playstation gamers.

Its apples and oranges. One company has a very pro-consumer goal of making gaming more affordable and accessible for the masses, the other has a very anti-consumer goal of making gaming less accessible and less affordable for the masses.

Because the "pro-consumer" and "anti-consumer" talk is fanboy bullshit. If you see keywords like those, or "value" being parroted over and over again by someone, you can probably start ignoring the person saying them.

Also, exclusives on consoles are fucking awesome. It's not arbitrary like on PC. If something was Steam-exclusive, that doesn't mean the game can be better. It would just mean there was some deal. When something is Xbox or Playstation exclusive, the developer has years to perfect it with that one specific piece of hardware in mind.

Anti-competitive mostly.

The Xbox fans are excited cause they have not seen Xbox do shit in years and they think this will change things. Some delight in the idea PS5 will not get some games....

20 bucks aud for a crapload of titles per month ...and even cheaper if your savvy with the $1 offers....if you don't have money for game pass you sure as shit don't have money to pay full price for every ps5 game that rolls out the door regardless of if it's a paid remaster or not

Had a look at the lineup last night and saw less than 5 games that I didnt have or were not on PS+, that I had even a slight bit of interest in.
Seems like people are massively overrating it.

Many of the games on PSNow are better. Older but better.
