Why is no one complaining about MS being "anti-consumer"?

20 bucks aud for a crapload of titles per month ...and even cheaper if your savvy with the $1 offers....if you don't have money for game pass you sure as shit don't have money to pay full price for every ps5 game that rolls out the door regardless of if it's a paid remaster or not

I don't buy every game, I buy games that really grab me. I also wait to buy them on sale.

The $1 offers are great. I do love those :)

Because there is nothing anti-consumer about purchasing studios?

What's anti-consumer about it? If you want to play Bethesda game's just build a PC or buy an Xbox. If I want to play uncharted or TLOU I'll buy PlayStation, which I did. If you want to play Zelda buy a switch. Most platforms have exclusives. Microsoft just made their exclusives a lot better. Especially after getting hammered, justifiably so, for the bullshit first party output.

Because of Sony's cockroach moves to secure 3rd party exclusives? They deprived PC gamers like me of playing FF7Remake? Then they stole Deathloop from MS. The warzone has been well set in advance for Microsoft to do this.
Calm down Dontero.

I don't ever see Nintendo exclusives on PC either. No one complains about that.

Nintendo has positioned itself as the PC/Switch, Xbox/Switch, PS/Switch... second system to go along with the other. They do their own thing.

Competition is a good thing and Xbox's moves are much more consumer friendly.

At least microsoft is investing in the studios and not paying them money to keep their games from other platforms

Huh? Don't Sony invest into studios as well to build them up and improve them? How is paying to keep one game exclusive for a few months to a year worst than acquiring an entire company who used to make multiple games for different platforms?

They prevented RE7 VR from coming to PC Headsets.

Had a look at the lineup last night and saw less than 5 games that I didnt have or were not on PS+, that I had even a slight bit of interest in.
Seems like people are massively overrating it.

Many of the games on PSNow are better. Older but better.

That is what I said...

The people complaining about anti consumerism were just upset that their platform of choice wasn't getting games. Now that the shoe is on the other foot they're happy.

Sony has been getting a lot of flack from gamers and even the gaming media (for their exclusivity/timed exclusivity deals), now Microsoft comes out and swallows a company whole (and threatens to swallow even more) and no one even bats an eye?... how is that for hypocrisy?

This type of thing is pretty normal. Just the usual "console warring". You'll get used to it pretty quickly; it's always aggressive passive behavior. Don't get too absorbed by it.

MS buy Studios, Sony pays to keep stuff off other systems. Big diffrence.
These two things are basically the same.

MS paid for have control (reads keep stuff off others systems) except one you need $$$ the other $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

But I don't see any anti-consumer practices in that.

Both companies are 'guilty' of these practices so its unfair to call out one and not the other.

As far as i see it, developers should build games independently. That makes it so we all benefit from their visions.

Getting to play a buttload of awesome games at a cheap price when Sony is charging $70 a game? Come on son.
Gamepass is an amazing service in terms of value. No one can deny that.
But people will pay the $70 for Sony's next gen games (myself included). Everyone and their dog is rushing out to buy a PS5. That should tell you the general public (not us forum dwellers) don't give a shit about the extra $10.
So for people on this forum to complain about $70, well you're in the minority in the grand scheme of things.

They would of locked up the next 3 zenimax games plus ff and project athena. I am sure there is more I can't think of. Then add in all the exclusive content which is disgusting charging customers the same for less content. Sony wants more great charge other customers less. If your blocking Microsoft from zenimax games I don't blame them for just buying the damn thing in response. When Microsoft has almost no market share it is hard to compete when the other guy is trying to content starving you. As I said I hope Sony gets the message about money hats. If not Microsoft buys the next major company they money hat.

Call a whaaaambulance already.

More number of players, less consolidation means more employment, bigger economy, vibrant and innovative culture.
Would have certainly helped if console business was not a 3 horse race.

Funny thing is that Sony somehow managed to homegrow first party studios or bought them up when they were still small time outfits. Xbox is kinda late to the party with buying up studios so that's why it seems anti-consumer (to some) because the sums of money are much bigger.

Dear Sony, this is what you deserve when you take Street Fighter away from Microsoft and Nintendo Platforms ;)

We will never forget what you did, and as promised one day we will have our revenge, and the day has now come and we are not done yet, greetings from Microsoft :D

But seriously, Game Pass is a great service for everyone and especially for families who don't have the money to purchase multiple $70.00 Dollar games in a year for their kids, and this will add even more value to Game Pass which is in my opinion a positive thing. No one holds you back to purchase a Microsoft system, Microsoft offers actually even a great entry system with the XBox Series S.

There is another really good reason why Game Pass is great and I hope I can explain that well enough! There are gamers with disabilities, some for instance are blind and can't play every game. And they don't know if they can play the game until they actually bought that expensive game. And with Game Pass they don't need to fear anymore to spend money on a game which they eventually can't play. With Game Pass they just have the option to just try another game which is absolutely fantastic!!! And this is only one example why Game Pass is consumer friendly in many ways!!!

Thanks to Phil Spencers incredible work with his Teams alot more people on this planet can enjoy Video Games :)

Because Microsoft's goal is to allow you to play games on any device with xcloud and add value to gamepass.

Sony's goal is to force people who don't want a PS5, to buy a PS5. Buying timed exclusives doesn't benefit anyone, not even playstation gamers.

Its apples and oranges. One company has a very pro-consumer goal of making gaming more affordable and accessible for the masses, the other has a very anti-consumer goal of making gaming less accessible and less affordable for the masses.

I have a feeling that might change now. I think they really tried making it go that way but observed that it wasn't working. The conversation wasn't switching 100% in their favor. Let's see how it plays out but I am thinking the buying of so many studios means Microsoft has decided to do what you describe Sony to be doing.

It's a 2 horse race Nintendo left to mobile a while ago.

MS buying Bethesda is just a bigger Sony buying Insomniac. They are 1st party developers now. Sony paying people to keep 3rd party games off another system for a year or what ever is totally different. Also Sony likes to pull the shit like they did with Avengers, pay to make other version of the game worse off. They did it with destiny and doing it with CoD too.

And now people are deluding themsevles thinking the $7 billion microsoft spent was reactionary to Sony :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Zenimax/Bethesda were headed in a shit direction anyway which is probably why not many people are overly upset.

I think as it stands it's far from the end of the world. I'd much rather Microsoft had of bought them and have the security in knowing these games are going to be on PC rather then be in the situation we WERE in which Sony were sniffing around for timed exclusivity, possibly locking games like Starfield out from any other device for 6-12 months. That to me is more anti-consumer then ONLY PS5 players not being able to play it.

Things are OK for now but if this is the start of Microsoft building a monopoly that ultimately results in a more expensive game-pass sub, Windows Store only with no other choices etc. then it will be a different story.

So it's anti-consumer when you leave people on other platforms to buy the game with slightly less content, but not when you remove the choice to buy that game altogether? (And no just because they spend the same amount does not mean they're entitled to the same content, the different versions are recognised as different products. And that money given to them for that content will also go towards investing in the studio)

Edit: for the record. I'm fine with both. Just don't get this argument

Come on man, you know how this goes. This is clearly the win that they needed. Let them have their fun. Claiming things are anti consumer is just another way of expressing personal butthurt. Nobody is saying you can't buy both consoles.

Hypothetically, can you imagine if Sony acquires From Software? I guarantee you there will be at least 10 threads about it being anti consumer.

Both companies have bought studios and timed exclusives. Xbox wanted more studios and injected excitement, they didn't want to wait 5-7 years to set one up and running until 1 game release.

That would be cool beef up the first party better than wasteful marketing deals or timed exclusives. Soulsheads are buying a PS5 anyways I don't see the complaints.

Can't remove something that wasn't there to start. It's not like MS is pulling all of Bethesda old games off anything Sony.

Except they are? They always have and still do. The Medium, for example, is a paid timed console exclusive. The new Yakuza was paid to stay off PS5 for a period of time (although PS4 was allowed).

Every PlayStation owner also has a high end gaming PC, so what's the problem?

Not trying to rile people up, but GAF seems to forget how much of a minority we are in the grand scheme of things. The amount of people that have a high end gaming PC are the minority of PC owners, and MANY families prefer a console to PC gaming.

I mean if we want to argue about nothing, why is it ok for there to be PC exclusive titles like Half Life: Alyx? Why can't I have that on my PSVR?

Exclusives are fine, M$ is just as guilty for the timed exclusive bullshit and let's not forget they almost beat Sony in the PS3 era due to having the exclusive DLC content for Call of Duty that gen. These are game companies, they do not have your best interest at heart, they have their shareholders wallets at heart.

At the end of the day, it is what it is. I don't think Sony fans have anything to worry about. My opinion is that this is Microsofts first move towards getting out of hardware and trying to become Netflix for games. You'll have GP of sorts on PS/Nintendo/PC and they don't have to worry about console stuff, and I think that may be the best thing they could do.

Once again, remembering how small a percent we make up in the gaming world, the Playstation most likely outsells the new Xbox 2:1 minimum, and Microsoft will handle the BIG exclusives just like Minecraft. No reason to leave money on the table in hopes somebody will buy an Xbox just for Skyrim Remake: Remastered: Special Edition VR.

I think this creates an interesting opportunity for smaller studios to take a shot at creating their own Fallout/ES type title on Sony and maybe Nintendo that won't have to compete with M$, or not, who cares we are a bunch of idiots arguing about rich peoples moneys on the internet.
