Why is the console Youtube Apps so garbage?

The Youtube App on PS4 is awesome. It supports 60fps and I'll often link it to my laptop so I can search quickly.

Yeah, PS4 YouTube is one of the worst piece of software I've ever dealt with; I'd rather just use the phone. I can't imagine a good reason really.

I use the PS4 app regularly and I think it's just fine. However, Netflix still is the GOAT of console apps that I know of. Everything about that app is so smooth.

have you tried the Netflix app for the new Apple TV? that is really a crap compared to the PS4, it has not even the subdivisions by categories.

The PS4 app would be so much better if they let me use the the damn OS keyboard. That dumb guessing game ish is annoying. That's why I don't like ps store search as well.

Why exactly are you using an app for youtube on PC? Seems a bit tedious to me.

Have my PC hooked up to my TV. The app (youtube.com/tv) is way easier to browse with just a keyboard, large text, and shoot videos to it from my phone/iPad. The website involves using a mouse, squinting, and none of the wireless functionality the app does. But it does have 60fps, something the PC version of the app does not.

You know you can connect your phone and use the YT app to cast to the PS4? Same goes for Netflix.

The truly damning bit about the Wii U app is that you get a far superior experience just going to youtube.com in the web browser.

Rather amusingly, the website has started putting up a banner when you do this trying to convince you to go back to the app.

Wii U was my Chromecast before Chromecast was a thing. It was also the best way to watch Giant Bomb videos on TV for a couple of years.

NO complaints about the Youtube app...Wife and I use it to jam out on music videos all the time and it has all the customized profile and recommended video options...

ohhhhh the webapp, I thought you meant a Windows 10 app or something, that makes more sense :o

The ps4 app for me is amazing, very responsive.

The xbox one app is the same design but i feel it has this lag input to it which is why i only use my ps4 app

I'm sick of trying to skip to the middle of a video and youtube freaks out like "whyyyy would you doooooo that," and completely stops working.
It's not just me then! I often need to refresh a page to get the video working again if I do any skipping.

Youtube on WiiU works great for me. In fact it was one of the things which made me fall in love with the console when I got it: being able to watch the videos on the TV with no intrusive UI while setting the next video or whatever on the gamepad is awesome.

the Vita verion was the greatest one!

*pours out a 40 for the youtube vita app*

True. Used to use it nightly, saving charge on my phone. It didn't have ads while the mobile app did... so good. Sure if they had updated it, it would have gotten ads, but I still would have used it over using battery on my phone.

I only watch youtube on wiiU browser, having the videos play on the tv while browsing is awesome, the app is severely limited in comparison, aside from the fact that i can keep a game in standby in the background this way.

So yeah the app on wiiu is completely pointless.

The ps4 YouTube app works great. No problems on video quality. Easy to use though the history function was removed.

I can't speak on the PS4 youtube app since I don't have one, but damn the Xbox One and Wii U Youtube apps are inexcusable. They freeze up constantly (especially the Wii U version which if you try to close the app when it freezes your whole console gets frozen), the connection is always shit, and the Xbox version constantly shows in the lowest resolution for me. Why can the Wii U Youtube app show videos in HD but the Xbox One version can't? I guess its a fair trade off since the Wii U youtube app routinely just says fuck it and stop playing the video with no warning. You would think they would have some sort of "select your video quality" option but no there is none. They are barebone apps that barely function and you would think by 2016, in the fourth year of the Wii U's life and the third year of the Xbox One's life that they would get the Youtube app to function like the desktop and mobile counterparts.
