Why is Titanfall so special?

Man, all these points can also be applied to Unreal Tournament 3. Steve Polge must feel like shit that he didn't get the ball-washing.

Looks fine

But I see no depth to it

Kill enemy

Kill enemy while jetpack jumping

Kill enemy while in a mech

Kill enemy in a mech

Rinse, repeat etc.

I'm one of those annoying foolish people who want story, character etc

Reserve final judgement until actual gameplay though

I hear they are going to add a young girl to escort through the game in DLC.

Also the pure fact that it's being made by the minds that gave us CoD4 is selling point enough. Pretty sure EA is going to keep throwing that specific point out there too

I feel like this thread is, practically troll baiting.

Look, seeing as the game isn't, "out," yet, and we've only seen a small part of the game, it's too early to call it, "special."

Special, is reserved for grand games that have withstood the test of time! Special, is reserved for games like Chrono Trigger, Super Mario Bros, Half Life, or the myriad of other titles that you can still pick up and enjoy right now, despite the passage of time!

Titan Fall, has not EARNED the right, to be called special! *Huffs*

It's too early to say, but I have seen it.

Something about clouds and money.

I think it looks interesting but I'm not totally sold on it yet. A lot of the ideas were done in Warhawk and Starhawk.

God, Starhawk was criminally underrated/underappreciated. : /

I dunno, I may bite on Titanfall on the PC. Probably not for $60 though.

The game has military equipped combat housing sentries (not to be confused with mechs). That alone is innovative enough to warrant the hype since we have never before seen anything like that in gaming or any other medium. Totally revolutionary if you ask me.

I have in fact seen the legendary Titanfall. And it seems...pretty fun. Doesn't strike me as revolutionary but it looks more interesting than most of the recent COD entries.

it won best of E3 from a majority of sites...that probably makes it special. Also, those people saw more it than any of us did.

I know a lot of GAF dismiss this game, but I am excited, hopefully the PS4 port isn't going to release to late or at the least the sequel is multiplatform. The only thing that bothers me is no single player campaign.

Yeah I actually am cautiously interested, probably around when it comes to PS4, and the no-SP part is actually one of the positives for me personally.

It's special because of the marketing push with it being shoved down our throats. That's about it.

I think the marketing push is actually the main reason it's getting so much hate here on GAF. At this point, as you can see, everyone has a lot more fun quoting the stupid PR statements (although, srsly, have you seen it?) than they do talking about the game. Without that maybe it would just be a marginally interesting next gen game

early posters are not reading op.

People see "Titanfall" or "Respawn" in the title and either get angry that it's being pushed on them and voluntarily click the thread to complain about it or race to see who can post a shitty meme first. Then the people who are actually interested in the game come in to discuss it while people who are looking for internet notoriety and to increase their post count continue to post dumb things.

At first I really wanted to play this game so bad but after watching a few vids on youtube I began seeing the COD pattern. I'm not a fan of COD so my interest then turn to The Division and Destiny and after seeing X for the Wii U trailer, I buying a Wii U.

But seriously, I'll believe that the totally not mechs and pilots are balanced against each other when the game is actually out.

Until then I'm extremely skeptical.

I hope they'll have a beta/demo just like they have for BF - that would be a pretty convenient way to make up my mind

You know video games are going to a bad place when a person doesn't see any depth in game play and thinks adding story and interesting characters is the way to get it.

It's made by the people that put Medal of Honor and Call of Duty on the map. Their pedigree is without peer. They've earned this widespread lauding of their game.

I'd say they've got plenty of peers in that regard. Not specifically shooters but there are plenty of other companies that have established/polished certain genres.

That kind of bugged me too....I thought literally off nothing but starhawk when it came out and was a little disappointed that it didn't really get it's dues for basically being the same style of gameplay.

If you guys could beat the "have you see titanfall" thing to an even more unfunny death just a little bit more that would be really awesome

Their mech design is not very good.

They look like those robot-costumes that people make on Halloween with cardboard boxes and aluminum foil.

have they showed any capture the flag footage of the game yet? i hope the flag holder is not allowed to fire weapons.

It would be awesome if they released Starhawk on PS+ to give it a second chance at a big community.

Like I said I realize I appear to be among the minority here but gasp I like story in my games

Hate QTEs as much as the next guy but cutscenes can be fine

And yes I want interesting characters

Playing as faceless military guy bores me after a certain point

I see no reason why you can't have stellar gameplay and a good story/charecters

Good job Microsoft, I am tired of Titanfail already and the game isn't even close to launch yet.

Sometimes too much PR is bad PR.

Well put OP. Personally I'm most excited about the character movement stuff, I love playing mobile characters in games and I'm hoping this will fulfill Brink's broken promises.

Unfortunately one of the most important parts of an MP shooter, the level design, is also impossible to judge from trailers. I'm optimistic since IIRC one of the devs said on GAF that they have some Q3 / rocket arena guys on their level design team, and CoD4 had some excellent maps (and a couple shitty ones too but eh).

You can reduce any multiplayer FPS to a few lines like this, are you just not a fan of MP shooters?
