Why is wii u wifi speed so awful

All connected to the same network, using speedof.me

ipad 4: 17.65Mbps down, 1.77 up
laptop: 22.4Mbps down, 1.75 up
Wii U: 1.5Mbps down, 1.4Mbps up

Is it just the web browser that is slow, or is the wifi chip in the thing just useless? Or is it something wrong with my setup?

Does anyone use a USB ethernet thing on their wii u? Is that faster?

I want to do DD only but downloads are so painfully slow.

also I love that those are my speeds when the comcast tier I am paying for is supposed to be "up to 50Mbps down, 10Mbps up"

Mine had terrible issues with interference; I had to turn my PC off in order for the wifi to even connect without dropping out. I've now moved it away from other devices and it's a bit better, but still rather slow.

My WiFi is working extremely well. Although I don't think that's saying much because my internet box is right next to the consoles.

My speed is fine, normally. The only console I have that hates WiFi is the PS3, but that seems to have been fixed by a recent update.

Try resetting your router?

It's taken me nearly 24 hours to download Monster Hunter including a couple of random disconnects and shutdowns. Do the publishers maintain their own servers or is it all Nintendo?

I downloaded the 6.5GB Bioshock infinite demo on my PS3 in 16 minutes and Monster Hunter 3 on the Wii U took almost 4 hours.

What are the specifics of the test? Are you loading the same data from the same web site?

Or are you downloading from each web store?

neither would be an accurate measure I am afraid.

100 Mbit down/10 Mbit up connection & the Nintendo LAN adapter = still an extremely slow connection.

The dongle really doesn't help much, if anything.

I dunno, mine doesn't have any issue. The browser is particularly impressive.

No, the browser isn't impressive. Zooming is extremely cumbersome and the low resolution screen makes text render pretty badly. Add to that the lack of support for common file types like PDF or MP3.

Nintendo's servers for the downloads are shit

I have 50mb/s internet and it took 5 hours to download NSMBU

I think it was mentioned in other threads that if you set a static IP in the wireless settings, you get a huge improvement. I haven't tried it yet.

You shouldn't have to bend backwards for things like this. Evenore so when other services just work.

If ms and apple shells out the money to add more server farms across the globe .. Nintendo and Sony should at least do half as much.

The browser seemed pretty good to me speed wise, although I don't have any real use for it.

Pulling anything from Nintendo's own servers, notably the game downloads, is insanely slow to the point where I just won't dink with it in the future unless it's for something truly important to me.

Eh, it's really not bending over backwards, it's not hard to do. That said, mine is static and it did jack shit.

Microsoft Xbox servers are still pretty slow in my experience, but very restrictive patch size guidelines mean they are downloaded pretty swiftly. Microsoft could do much better.

While I don't believe setting a static IP will do anything for speed (why would it, that doesn't make any sense) to remove the chance of random problems you would have to adapt your router settings as well.

see if it makes a difference if you move the wiiu or the router closer to each other. maybe there is alot of packet loss.

I had a very cheap 4Mb connection, and I downloaded Nintendo Land yesterday in about two hours... don't know if that was bad, but didn't really bothered me.

The best thing to try is putting the WiiU outside the DMZ.
Since my WiiU is right by my router and my speeds are still slower than average.

Exposing the Wii U to all ports won't have any effect on download speeds.

Pretty standard for your connection, absolutely atrocious to anyone else.

Be careful, like Mark Rein you may have to apologize to Nintendo Fans.

I have two routers and the speed with my fastest router is awful. The speed with the slower router is a bit better, but it still sucks. My 3DS can download games a lot faster than my Wii U, so I hope the spring and summer updates will also bring better compatibility with a lot of wi-fi routers.

I've had zero problems with my Wii U internet browser speed. The people I talk to regularly have had zero problems. The people I talk to regularly who don't even like Nintendo have had zero problems. So yeah, there is probably something wrong with your setup. I have, however, heard that downloading games from the eShop is a slow process, but everything else should be fine.

I don't have any problems when it comes to browsing or watching Youtube/Netflix/Hulu/Amazon etc.
My only complain here is games download speed, thank God for background download I guess.

What are you testing? Game DLs? Youtube Videos? Webpages?

I was using speedof.me because wii u doesn't support like speedtest.net or anything.

Put my wii u in the DMZ and it did nothing.

Funny thing is, I tried a different site, testmy.net, and wii u gets 1.8Mbps while my 3ds gets 2.4
