Why isn't Pokemon frowned upon

I mean if you ever wanted a Michael Vick simulator, you can't really go won't with Pokémon. Come on man, it's just a game, no game world is good if you try to apply real world rules, just enjoy them all.

Anime people are almost invincible.

How about a pokémon breeder or coordinator?

Man Coordinators in the anime seem like a lot of fun and honestly sometimes feels like it's right on the same level as someone who battles for a living. Considering you have to think up new variations to your performances to wow the judges. Then you have to go into a battle round and have a battle while STILL thinking about how pretty your moves look. Hard work.

Superheroes we're frowned upon when you got older.
Cartoons in general we're frowned upon.

Video games, toys, ect. Anything with the misconception with little kids playing.

But pokemon was always part of pop culture, so it's "coolness" factor was always there.

I think the only people who frown upon Pokemon are Christians who are against it because of "evolution."

That was horrifying!

Was the screaming included in the English Dub???

From the comment sections:
Nah, in all the other versions, Charmander don't scream that much.
Edit : just checked and nope, all same length, anyway it's more "bearable" than in the Japanese one.

Nah, in all the other versions, that scene is considerably shorter and Charmander don't scream at all.

Wow, even the localization team knew it was fucked up....

The next Pokemon game should address this, it would make for some amazing in-game social commentary.

Please tell me this is real.

I'd totally play it.

And probably be disappointed cause it was some hack job with no real thought to gameplay or anything.

How do you address it while still keeping the game mechanics of battling? If you tell the player that battling is bad, in a game that is almost entirely battling, then you've made a game that doesn't want to be played.

i was expecting the fact that there's very little to no innovation in these games.

but i suppose this might be a case of why fix what ain't broken?

I remember back in the day there was a few controversies surrounding pokemon. Most were to do with its references to evolution which of course struck a chord with the loony christians who don't like any mention of it even in a purely fictional game. Then of course there were the comparisons to cock fighting and animal cruelty which I don't think really rung that true.

My personal gripes are with the exploitative nature of the way these games are made, basically it was a much more sinister DLC before that was a thing. One save game per game which is disgraceful for a kid's game which was often shared between siblings on top of the different versions and making people buy a link cable as well if you wanted to catch em all. It was actually a pretty underhanded, grotty method of selling more products to a target audience who isn't particularly aware of being exploited. Genius in its own way I'll grant you, but also nasty.

I stopped playing Pokemon games because of this.

At first it was a pretty amusing joke, but then I genuinely started getting uncomfortable with the idea of beating animals into submission and separating them from their habitats, just so that I could "...be the very best, like no one ever was".

I seriously wish a Pokemon game would address the inherent animal cruelty that's present in the Pokemon universe.

Black and White addressed this, but the resolution in the end was something like "it's okay because pokemon are our friends."

Was kind of expecting the difficulty or story being mentioned but they're not there.

So I've recently played Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon and it's filled that story itch I've been missing from the main Pokemon games.

My friend always mentions how there was a Pokemon war at some point, alluded to by some guy in some episode of the anime, that was never brought up again..

I'd like to know the backstory of the Pokemon world myself. How exactly did the Pokemon end up as slaves to compete in a game like this from a young age?

I think this is referenced in nearly every game. It was a large event but the details are never given.

Its not just the anime, LT. Surge is a legit war vet who apparently fought with pokemon in war time battles.

Eh, its not really just religious arguments. I've seen others that argue against it from an animal rights stance more often than not. The religious right gave up on it just like they gave up on Magic the gathering after the whole satanic imagery business back in the late 80s-though most of that stuff was voluntarily removed anyway. In fact I think I've seen the animal rights stance more than any other these days.

I bailed on Pokemon in the 90s so I have no horse in this race. Those card games were fun for all of five minutes. Most people I knew just collected to gloat and shove rare cards in friends faces that they knew didn't have them. The shiny foil struggle is real my dude.

The games never clicked on an rpg-gamer level either. There's obviously something there that people love however, or they wouldn't have been made for the last 15-20 some years.
