Why Nintendo is making baby music?

Oh I understand that but the concept to be irritated at an OS music just unknown to me. Most OS music is just calm and noticieble for the most part not like im playing the OS. Unless it was something like that snes chess game or whatever
 
I don't understand either, and music is the main reason why I completely dislike Kirby's Epic Yarn. First platformer that literally put me to sleep on the sofa (not kidding here).

I'm truly worried about Yoshi's New Island for this matter as well. The trailer music is cringe worthy.

Interesting enough I am tired of hearing the Wii's OS menu lol Dunno why but it never irritated me before until a few years ago.

Sorry for off music topic but.

Bit of a coincidence, I only recently got a ds (December for a plane ride) and started going through the games, loved NSMB and after that got Yoshi's Island as I remember loving the original one. Oh man I am really not enjoying it at all but promised to myself to finish each game before starting the next. My copy of Castlevania Dawn Of Sorrow arrived today in the post but I've got to get through Yoshi first, currently on world 4, oh dear it's really not fun at all.

Lava Landing is my favorite new song from last gen. It's so freaking great.

Also I disagree with using the term baby music. I don't even know if that's a thing. But Epic Yarn's piano only music truly made the game feel epic to me. It gives this feeling of being inside an auditorium with a single pianist playing just for you and taking you on a wild adventure.

Most were disappointed with Epic Yarn's "no dying" situation, but that aside it was a solid game.
 
I feel like the "cutification" nadir of Yoshi games actually peaked with Yoshi's Story on the N64. Yoshi was given a baby's voice and the game's aesthetic and music took on a deliberately more childish tone than Yoshi's Island. I think Nintendo have actually dialled it back considerably since then.

While the first track is better then the second. I don't see anything wrong with the second more fitting for the art that the ds version was certainly not bad or babyish. it's a different approach the first is more kind of epic, second is more of a minimalistic approach to a mysterious place as a castle should be when its drawed with crayons. altough i must admit yoshi games became worse and worse as time goes on the new island looks so slow paced can't remember if the old ones where this way gonna replay yoshi snes again soon to find out.

I find the 2nd music not well made. It... really does not have much going on for it at all. It's a very boring and uninteresting song. And it doesn't really fit a castle stage at all, even with the art direction in mind (wasn't the first one's art crayons too?).

Yes the first artstyle was more raw crayon its less appearant on the ds version. I don;t think the song is boring but more relaxing. But i can see why you think that way because you can compare from where the old game was coming from. But i think the music was more fitting in the second for what it set out to do then having the same first soundtrack. I also think the second isnt very memorable or the game to be good like the first one but it fits the game and that was kinda my point. Just a yoshi game more targeted towards kids like kirby, although the extra stages where brutally hard never 100% the ds game but i did 100% the snes version.
 
I don't think this is really a growing trend considering Epic Yarn is very much a cute game for kids and Return to Dreamland and Triple Deluxe's soundtracks are on par with the old Kirby music. Seriously, 'C.R.O.W.N.E.D' gives 02's theme a run for its money. Yoshi's New Island is just a meh game over all, and it doesn't seem to be getting attention from anyone, it's just sort of there. I know you said you weren't counting them, but I don't think we should be worrying about Nintendo's Soundtracks coming off 3D World and going into Tropical Freeze next month.

I'm not really comparing the song to the first game's actually. I'm judging by its own merits, I'm actually really easy to please when it comes to music. That song just honestly couldn't click with me. I think it needs a better melody and instruments.

yeah if i rank its on its own merith withouth even counting the game it is mediocre, also i am the one that rarely calls things bad :P Maybe because i visualise the game infront of me that i am thinking it is alright and fitting but the song is never amazing or good.
 
Dont compare yarn's music to the filth that is yoshi's new island main theme, one has nothing to do withe other.

The second track is not only terrible but it's one of the worst choices for any dungeon theme in an adventure game.
 
The music and sound effects in general in New Yoshi sound like ass. It´s as if some intern made it. Not sure if it justufies a thread title like "omg! when will nintendo stop making baby music already?!"
One game.... Usuallly their audio output is awesome.
 
I thought the same thing about Yoshi's New Island. The original Yoshi's Island was a celebration, a triumphant march through wondrous turns that were yet fraught with peril. This new thing seems literally created for an infant in a crib, not only the music but all the sounds. It makes no sense.

Yes, I made a mistake because I hated it so much that trailer =/
And Yoshi's Island have one of my favorite OST ever.
 
I was under the impression that both those games were little kids games. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they like super easy with infinite lives?
 
While it has become cool to bash Nintendo for various reasons (many of them warranted). It is funny that we have reached a point of picking on the music in their games. Nintendo is very consistent with the quality of the soundtracks to their games. Hell, KI: Uprising and Zelda: ALBW are wonderful. Skipping NSMB for obvious reasons SM3DW returned to form. It sounds like this thread was conceived after listening to the music from the NSMB series and nothing else.

No, the real question is: Why is OP making weird generalisation in thread title? (...when he essentially only talks about 2 games, New Yoshi's Island & Kirby's Epic Yarn).

Both Yoshi's Island and K.Epic Yarn are aimed at a younger audience - that explains why their OSTs sound relaxing, joyful and cute.

I've played Epic Yarn and can safely say it's got pretty good music, with lots of piano arrangements. Outer Rings, Lava Landing, Secret Island, Tube Town (<--- this is pretty great), Apt. 102

Btw, the game is actually really fun, eventhough you can't die. You can make it very challenging if you want to get the highest score in every level by collecting all the jewelry. With every jewel you collect, the more you don't want to get hit, because with every hit you loose a bigger chunk of them and only have a limited time to re-collect, therefore the game can get pretty tense, especially if you play in Co-Op (I was surprised myself)
